Atomic force microscopy (AFM) is a crucial instrument for probing and manipulating surfaces, soft matter, and objects at micrometer and nanometer scales. Furthermore, AFM procedures offer unparalleled opportunities to deepen our understanding of cells, cellular components, cellular processes, and genetics. The nuclear beta-actin (beta-actin) pool plays an essential role in diverse nuclear processes, including chromatin and transcription regulation, and these mechanisms affect key cellular processes such as DNA damage response and cell differentiation. We recently revealed, using AFM, that the composition of endogenous beta-actin levels directly impacts biomechanical and biophysical features of cell membrane surface, and as well, cellular behavior in 2D and 3D cultures, thus leading to global chromatin changes in mouse embryonic fibroblasts (MEFs). In this work, we are further investigating whether the beta-actin isoform is also involved in regulating biomechanical properties of isolated nucleus of MEFs, including the elasticity and bio-adhesiveness. By employing AFM-based probing and manipulation procedures on individual nuclei with different genotypes, we observed that the elasticity is reduced in the nuclei lacking beta-actin. Additionally, there was an apparent decrease in surface tether forces. Notably, re-introduction of beta-actin through genetic manipulation restores elasticity and other biomechanical properties towards the original wild-type nuclei. Combining findings of this work with deep-sequencing will help in revealing the essential role of beta-actin in the global chromatin organization and its regulatory relationship with nuclear biomechanics. This work demonstrates the power of combining AFM probing and manipulation with genetic modification for studying cellular components and processes. © 2023 IEEE.

Artificial intelligence (AI) technologies can help to greatly improve the usability and performance of an application. Over the last few years, many approaches have been presented on how AI technologies can improve individual steps in an assembly application that uses human-robot collaboration. This paper presents a concept for an AI supported human-robot collaboration for an assembly application, in which the AI components extend and improve the assembly application in all areas and not just individual steps. This includes the setup of a new assembly sequence as well as the subsequent execution of the assembly. The implemented concept is also compared against the same application with a lower degree of automation. © 2021 IEEE.

An integrated observer framework based mechanical parameters identification approach for adaptive control of permanent magnet synchronous motors is proposed in this ***,an integrated observer framework is established for mechanical parameters’estimation,which consists of an extended sliding mode observer(ESMO)and a Luenberger *** at minimizing the influence of parameters coupling,the viscous friction and the moment of inertia are obtained by ESMO and the load torque is identified by Luenberger observer *** obtaining estimates of the mechanical parameters,the optimal proportional integral(PI)parameters of the speed-loop are determined according to third-order best design *** a result,the controller can adjust the PI parameters in real time according to the parameter changes to realize the adaptive control of the ***,the disturbance is compensated according to the ***,the experiments were carried out on simulation platform,and the experimental results validated the reliability of parameter identification and the efficiency of the adaptive control strategy presented in this paper.

The media network faces challenges in systematically improving user experience due to the computational transmission tasks of massive data and highly coupled technical processes. Therefore, this paper designs a comprehensive user experience optimization system based on media device network modeling for key business scenarios, with user experience as the core, to achieve comprehensive user experience improvement for media device networks. We first use a network model to model the device network and achieve the mapping from physical space to mathematical space. Secondly we design a multi domain user experience model to map network capabilities to experience indicators. Finally, a multi-objective optimization method based on pareto optimality has been proposed for device networks to optimize their capabilities and achieve the goal of improving the overall quality of experience (QoE). We simulate weak network such as latency and packet loss in cloud gaming scenarios. When the user experience is poor, the proposed method is used to optimize the device network. The experimental results show that the user experience is significantly improved after optimization, proving the effectiveness of the proposed method. © 2024 IEEE.

The ground-wall insulation (epoxy/mica insulation) of form-wound converter-fed rotating machines is subjected to pulse width modulation (PWM) waveforms during operation. In this study, the behavior of electrical trees in epoxy resin, a major cause of the insulation degradation, is experimentally investigated under simulated operating waveforms, i.e. superimposed sinusoidal and repetitive pulse waveforms. Tree length, propagation speed, and morphology are evaluated through microscope observations. The results show that the tree propagation speed becomes significantly faster with an increase in pulse voltage ratio, compared to the case of the AC waveform alone. Considering the observation of the tree morphology, it is inferred that the tree channel density under the superimposed waveforms becomes sparser than that under the sinusoidal alone, resulting in the electric field enhancement at the tip of the tree channels and the faster propagation.

In transiting from one civilization to another, technology has played a vital and positive role. In the 21st century, one of the digital developments that is paving ways for human life improvement is machine-assisted technology using Artificial Intelligence (AI). Artificial Intelligence has successfully enhanced man's capacity in solving complex problems and processes. However, as developed nations continue to reap from the adoption of AI in various fields of human endeavors, the continent of Africa has remained behind, especially in AI-based skills and research. Various governments in developing nations have encouraged the adoption of AI, especially in institutions of learning. However, theoretical adoption without practical experience has remained an ineffective way of bridging the digital divide. In this paper we present the outcome of a practical approach to bridging the AI divide among students and researchers in Africa through funding support from the Google TensorFlow College Outreach Award. A 3-day hybrid bootcamp was organized (11th to 13th December, 2023) using the Google funding in order to equip postgraduate students and researchers with AI and collaborative research skills. A pre-survey method was employed to ascertain the knowledge level of the bootcamp participants. From the pre-surveyed feedback, training sessions on various AI domains were presented, and participant equipped with practical AI skills using a deployed AI-based cloud programming platform running on the private Federated Genomic Cloud (FEDGEN) infrastructure at Covenant University. A post-survey feedback was used to ascertain the effectiveness of this approach. A comparative analysis of the pre-survey and post-survey reveals a 70% improvement of AI skills among participants. This shows that having continuous training session for students and researchers is an effective method in closing the AI skills gap between developed and developing nations. © 2024 IEEE.

In order to give full play to the multi-core parallel computing ability of CPU+GPU heterogeneous processing platform and maximize the efficient utilization of platform resources, this paper analyses the architecture characteristics of the platform, improves the HEFT algorithm, and proposes a load deployment decision algorithm. Firstly, the algorithm pre judges the load, establishes the scheduling queue from large to small, and pre allocates the task to GPU and CPU;then it uses HEFT algorithm to sort the tasks, but in the processor selection stage, the algorithm only selects the corresponding GPU and CPU from the two scheduling queues. Simulation results show that, compared with the classic HEFT algorithm, the load deployment decision algorithm greatly improves the utilization rate of GPU and the speedup ratio in the calculation process. It is a more load balanced algorithm with shorter scheduling length and higher efficiency. © 2021 ACM.

Iterative learning control (ILC) is capable of improving the tracking performance of repetitive control systems by utilizing data from past iterations. The aim of this paper is to achieve both task flexibility, which is often achieved by ILC with basis functions, and the performance of frequency-domain ILC, with an intuitive design procedure. The cost function of norm-optimal ILC is determined that recovers frequency-domain ILC, and consequently, the feedforward signal is parameterized in terms of basis functions and frequency-domain ILC. The resulting method has the performance and design procedure of frequency-domain ILC and the task flexibility of basis functions ILC, and are complimentary to each other. Validation on a benchmark example confirms the capabilities of the framework. © 2024, CC BY-NC-ND.

A method for designing unidirectional electrically small antenna is proposed by analyzing the achievable directivity using characteristic modes. By examining the optimal currents of the achievable directivity within the design space, the fundamental antenna structure can be established. Structural parameters are then optimized to achieve the antenna with high gain, a high front-to-back ratio, and good impedance matching. The proposed method is validated through the simulated design of a unidirectional electrically small antenna with $\boldsymbol{ka}=\mathbf{0.7}$ , achieving a gain that closely approaches the achievable gain of the initial design space, along with a good FTBR. This method provides valuable design guidance for configuring high-performance unidirectional antennas within constrained spaces.
