A picture lifelog is a type of lifelog that consists of pictures, mainly taken by the user. Recently, users have been able to easily create picture lifelogs because many portable devices such as smart phones have a camera. When a user sees a picture in their picture lifelog, it is sometimes difficult to recall the events related to the picture. Therefore, we proposed to combine search queries on a picture lifelog in order to support memory retrieval. Search queries are input into a web search engine to satisfy a user's need for information. Recently, because of the prevalence of smart phones, the opportunity to input search queries has increased to anytime and anywhere. Search queries are stored in a cloud user database such as Google search history. In addition, those search queries imply what the user was thinking at the time. We investigated whether search queries enable a user to recall their thoughts regarding picture lifelogs. Thus, we conducted an experiment to ascertain whether search queries reminded a user of past events. As a result, we reveal that displaying a picture with search queries performed around the time it was taken tends to improve users' memories better than its time, location, or emails sent during that time.

Recently, society has been affected by technological issues on a daily basis because the relationships between scientific technology and society are becoming more complex. It is desirable that not only authorities but also citizens become concerned about science and technology. Therefore, science Communication (SC) is receiving attention. Our research goals are to design and develop computer-aided software that supports discussion during science Communication exercises. We conducted an experiment to evaluate the effects of the system in an Osaka University graduate school class. Based on our results, our goal is to develop a more effective support system.

In organizations, it is essential to understand the current situation and resolve issues. In identifying issues, it is important and not easy for people within the organization to share their perceptions with each other, understanding the current situation of the organization. The present study focuses on the group issues identifying, in detail, sharing the perceptions of the actual situation within the organization, and awakening sensitivity of the organizational issues. In addition, a participatory presentation system is designed and implemented, and an evaluation experiment is conducted in an actual organization.

Single cell analysis has attracted much attention to reveal the detailed and localized biological information, which is not obtained by the conventional group cell analysis due to the statistical assay on individual cells. In addition, new study field has been rapidly developing sauch as, aims to be applied to regenerative medicine by assembling organization like cells in vitro. In these fields, the technologies to operate single cells or mass composed of multiple cells freely are useful. In this case, the technique to manipulate the cells stable and fast was required. In such background, we studied two finger micro-hand that realized control of the sub-micro order size object. In this study we aim to achieve a stable grip and easy operation by processing the end effector of the two-fingered micro hand. Since the stabilization of grasping will be expected, if the contact surface between the object and end effector increase, we propose a simple method for coating end effector with hydrogel, which is highly biocompatible.

Isoxazole and oxadiazole derivatives inhibiting 3-hydroxykynurenine transaminase (3HKT) are potential larvicidal candidates. This study aims to identify more suited potential inhibitors of Anopheles gambiae 3HKT (Ag3HKT) through molecular docking and molecular dynamics simulation. A total of 958 compounds were docked against Anopheles gambiae 3HKT (PDB ID: 2CH2) using Autodock vina and Autodock4. The top three identified hits were subjected to 300 ns molecular dynamics simulation using AMBER 18 and ADMET analysis using SWISSADME predictor and ADMETSAR. Replacement of alkyl attachment on C5 of isoxazole or oxadiazole derivative with a cycloalkyl group yielded compounds with lower binding energy than their straight chain counterparts. The top three compounds were brominated compounds, 2‐[3‐(4‐bromophenyl)‐1,2‐oxazol‐5‐yl]cyclopentane‐1‐carboxylic acid, 2-[3-(4-bromophenyl)-1,2,4-oxadiazol-5-yl]cyclopentane-1-carboxylic acid, 3-[3-(4-bromo-2-methylphenyl)-1,2,4-oxadiazol-5-yl]cyclopentane-1-carboxylic acid, and they had binding energies of −8.58, −8.25, and −8.18 kcal/mol in virtual screening against 2CH2 protein target, respectively. These compounds were predicted to be less toxic than temephos, a standard larvicide and more biodegradable than previously reported inhibitors. The three compounds exhibited a greater stabilizing effect on 2CH2 protein target than 4-[3-(4-bromophenyl)-1,2,4-oxadiazol-5-yl]butanoic acid, a previously reported inhibitor candidate with good larvicidal activity on Aedes aegypti. Further thermodynamic calculations revealed that the top three compounds possessed total binding energies (ΔG_bind) of −26.64 kcal/mol, −24.26 kcal/mol and −14.11 kcal/mol, respectively, as compared to −12.02 kcal/mol for 4-[3-(4-bromophenyl)-1,2,4-oxadiazol-5-yl]butanoic acid. These compounds could be better larvicides than previously reported isoxazole or oxadiazole derivatives and safer than temephos. © 2025 The Authors

Micro robotics is a significant area to be able to manipulate micro level objects dexterously. Until now, various micro manipulation systems have been presented. In micro environment, different kinds of objects have different dimensions. Some of them are a few micrometers (¿m) such as donor cells, some of them are more than a hundred ¿m such as egg cells. At this point, a manipulator which has multi-scale manipulation ability can manipulate different size objects. Otherwise, for different diameter objects, different micro-hands are necessary. Furthermore, when we want to manipulate micro objects, manipulation distance is not always same. Because, with micro hand, we do not just want to grasp or rotate the objects, sometimes we could also want to carry the object from one micro environment to another one. Therefore, workspace of micro manipulator is also important for various micro tasks. In this paper, we propose a new micro manipulation system which includes parallel mechanism for grasping and releasing tasks. This new system has ability of multi-scale manipulation, which means manipulation of different size objects with same micro hand. Moreover, short distance (nm) and long distances carriage (mm) are feasible with this micro manipulator.

In the present paper, we propose a simple generation method of a dynamic object map by the person who does not have professional knowledge about sensors. In the method, a user attaches ultrasonic sensors with RF-ID tags to corners of objects. More than 2 sets of receivers can measure their 3D positons. Dynamic object map is generated by the measurements in real time. The method is evaluated by the inexperience users act to build the map according to the simple procedure.

In the disaster countermeasures office of the local government, it is necessary to grasp a damage situation correctly in the situation of having got confused, and to perform quick decision-making. As the technology to realize a decision support system in such a situation, we considered using augmented reality. Augmented reality allows a user to look at virtual objects or annotations in the real world as if they are really exist there. However, there is a problem in the augmented reality technology of a present stage. One of them is the problem by which a user's hand or body will surely be concealed with virtual objects. In the example of disaster countermeasures office, by concealing the gesture and pointing, communication between users and the usability on manipulating virtual objects are affected. In order to overcome this problem, depth of the real world from the user's viewpoint is employed. However, if the system is used in an environment including moving or deformable objects, the depth has to be measured in real time. In this paper, we propose a method of real time stereo matching by using programmable shader on graphics hardware for this purpose.

Drawing annotations on shared live video has been investigated as a tool for remote collaboration. However, if a local user changes the viewpoint of a shared live video while a remote user is drawing an annotation, the annotation is projected and drawn at wrong place. Prior work suggested manually freezing the video while annotating to solve the issue, but this needs additional user input. We introduce a solution that automatically freezes the video, and present the results of a user study comparing it with manual freeze and no freeze conditions. Auto-freeze was most preferred by both remote and local participants who felt it best solved the issue of annotations appearing in the wrong place. With auto-freeze, remote users were able to draw annotations quicker, while the local users were able to understand the annotations clearer.

In the recent years, the demand for micro and nano motion devices has increased in many industrial applications such as assembling micro machines, manipulating biological cells, and micro-surgical operations like neurosurgery and ophthalmology. As a result, there is an urgent need to develop micro-nano manipulators capable of performing very small motion with high resolution and sometimes with high speed. However, in micro environment, all kind of objects have different dimensions. Some of them are a few micrometers (μm) such as donor cells, some of them are more than a hundred μm such as egg cells. At this point, only a multi-scalable manipulator can hold very different size micro objects. For multi-scale manipulation, workspace size of the end effector is the key point. In this paper, we aim to find optimum design by checking different orientations of end effector's workspace size through inverse kinematics.
