The intention of this research was to evaluate the influence of the implementation of good governance on the performance of one of the government organizations. The method used was a quantitative-descriptive with causality approach, which was then analyzed by PLS-SEM. The amount of the research sample was 303 of state civil apparatus at the Land Transportation Management Center throughout 38 provinces in Indonesia. The research findings explained that transparency has an impact on the increasing accountability and responsibility of government organizations but has no power to boost their performance. Accountability has an influence on increasing responsibility and the performance of an organization. Responsibility is also found to be effective in rebuilding the performance of government organizations. This research brings the latest issue to the surface. By linking all indicators of good governance factors, namely transparency-accountability, transparency-responsibility, and accountability-responsibility, which is rarely done in previous research that focused on the connection between good governance-performance. In addition to that, this research was also conducted at the Land Transportation Management Center throughout 38 provinces, so the level of accuracy would be high and had a huge impact on related government organizations in Indonesia. © Authors retain all copyrights.

Evaluating stakeholder engagement in collaborative research: co-producing knowledge for climate resilience

This study describes the development, implementation, and evaluation of an initial stakeholder engagement experience designed to facilitate knowledge co-production. The engagement experience is part of a collaborative research framework (CRF), which facilitates iterative interactions among diverse researchers and stakeholders around the topic of enhanced climate resilience. Here, we describe the: (1) need for and development of a CRF as it relates to stakeholder engagement and knowledge co-production;(2) implementation of the initial engagement experience, focused around individual semi-structured interviews, in the context of a snow-dependent, arid river basin where historical water over allocation, climate change, and diversified water uses challenge the basin’s resilience;and (3) formative evaluation of the engagement experience using an online survey to inform the development of more effective engagement practices. Results of the evaluation indicate that, after participating, most stakeholders understand and recognize the importance of research goals, demonstrate positive attitudes toward collaborative research and researchers, view their contribution of knowledge and expertise as critical to research, and perceive researchers as eager to use their expertise. Moreover, stakeholders emphasized various context-specific goals for knowledge co-production, such as finding innovative ways to adapt to increased competition for diminishing water supplies. To achieve these goals, stakeholders suggested researchers learn about their basin, including its water allocation history and agricultural practices. These results highlight the importance of centering stakeholder engagement experiences within a broader CRF and formatively evaluating such experiences to adapt them to achieve research goals. © 2022, The Author(s).

The influence of social capital on the small-holders empowerment of livestock farming in Sragen Regency

The empowerment of smallholders is part of sustainable agricultural development to increase production. This study aims to identify the characteristics of beef cattle farmers and social capital, and also to determine the effect of social capital on the empowerment of smallholder beef cattle farmers in Sragen Regency. The study was conducted in June 2021 in Plupuh District by using purposive sampling method to determine the location and the respondents. The number of respondents was 100 smallholders who had at least 1 year of experience in raising beef cattle. Data were collected through direct interviews with the smallholders and were analyzed descriptively by using multiple linear regression analysis together with the F test and R2 test in order to determine the effect of social capital on empowerment. The results showed that most of the respondents had a low level of education, and the majority of the respondents' occupations were laborers. It also showed that the respondents had a side job as a smallholder and the status of livestock ownership was their own. Subsequently, the regression analysis obtained Y = 4.517 – 0.525X1 + 0.617X2 +0.153X3 - 0.186X4 + 0.550X5 and it is interpreted that all social capital variables consisting of willingness, openness, encouragement, activeness, and participation simultaneously affect the empowerment of beef cattle smallholders. In the coefficient of determination test (R2), the results obtained is 0.321 which implied that the social capital variable had an influence of only 32.1% on the empowerment of beef cattle smallholders, while the remaining 67.9% was influenced by other variables not included in this study. Therefore, it was concluded that social capital only had an effect of 32.1% on the empowerment of livestock smallholders.

University–community partnerships can play an important role in this green infrastructure (GI) maintenance issue and provide a valuable mechanism to support socio-ecological practice to address complex urban water issues and build urban resilience. In this Perspective Essay, we draw from our experience in a university–community partnership to create a Green Stormwater Infrastructure (GSI) Maintenance Protocol for the City of Tucson in Arizona, USA, through a collaborative, participatory dialogue process. We build upon our earlier work in the planning, design, implementation, and monitoring of green infrastructure efforts to tease out key lessons to inform university–community partnerships to support socio-ecological practice. In doing so, we explore our earlier three lessons for university–community partnerships including understanding and valuing the socio-ecological context;investing, and reinvesting, in the collaborative process;and embracing a diverse set of roles for universities. In reflecting on these lessons, we offer two additional lessons that speak to the importance of investing and engaging in equity, even when a university–community partnership seemingly appears not to be focused on justice issues, and the value in strengthening networks to maintain and further collaboration. These lessons can inform other university–community partnerships around the world to better support socio-ecological practice, expand access to GI in disadvantaged communities, and heighten urban resilience. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

We aimed to investigate the association between air pollution and advanced fibrosis among patients with metabolic associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) and chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV) infections. A total of 1376 participants who were seropositive for HBV surface antigen (HBsAg) or antibodies to HCV (anti-HCV) or had abnormal liver function in a community screening program from 2019 to 2021 were enrolled for the assessment of liver fibrosis using transient elastography. Daily estimates of air pollutants (particulate matter ≤2.5 μm in diameter [PM_2.5], nitrogen dioxide [NO₂], ozone [O₃] and benzene) were aggregated into mean estimates for the previous year based on the date of enrolment. Of the 1376 participants, 767 (52.8%) and 187 (13.6) had MAFLD and advanced fibrosis, respectively. A logistic regression analysis revealed that the factors associated with advanced liver fibrosis were HCV viremia (odds ratio [OR], 3.13;95% confidence interval [CI], 2.05–4.77;p < 0.001), smoking (OR, 1.79;95% CI, 1.16–2.74;p = 0.01), age (OR, 1.04;95% CI, 1.02–1.05;p < 0.001) and PM_2.5 (OR, 1.10;95% CI, 1.05–1.16;p < 0.001). Linear regression analysis revealed that LSM was independently correlated with PM_2.5 (β: 0.134;95% CI: 0.025, 0.243;p = 0.02). There was a dose-dependent relationship between different fibrotic stages and the PM_2.5 level (the PM_2.5 level in patients with fibrotic stages 0, 1–2 and 3–4: 27.9, 28.4, and 29.3 μg/m³, respectively;trend p < 0.001). Exposure to PM_2.5, as well as HBV and HCV infections, is associated with advanced liver fibrosis in patients with MAFLD. There was a dose-dependent correlation between PM_2.5 levels and the severity of hepatic fibrosis. © 2023 The Authors. Reorientation of the Community-Engaged Research in the Era of COVID-19: Innovative Strategies for Adaptive Capacity Evaluation in the Vietnamese Mekong Delta

The implementation of Community-engaged research (CenR) has faced many challenges in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, especially when researchers are based in another part of the country or the world. This paper presents a researcher’s initiative for implementing CenR in partnership with local universities, particularly engaging local students to become part of the communities and bridge the gap between researchers and communities. The project aims to engage local communities working in tourism services in assessing their adaptive capacity (AC) to climate change in the Vietnamese Mekong Delta (VMD). Notably, this study was conducted with the researchers being located in Taiwan while the research area was situated in the VMD. Methods used include field trips, in-depth interviews (IDIs), focus group discussions (FGDs), local workshops, and people participation geographic information system (PPGIS). Two groups of students at Kien Giang University (KGU) and Dong Thap University (DTU) (Vietnam) were involved. The article provides the process of engaging with local students, from searching and selecting them, to obtaining consents, engaging and building trust, training and guiding them in field trips, engaging with local communities, collecting and analyzing data, and developing future projects in those communities. The study offers a novel approach that can be extrapolated in the context of global system crises such as climate change, disasters, or emergency situations in remote areas that often experience limited connectivity with the outside world. By encouraging the creativity of students and researchers, this study promotes the continuity of research efforts even in times of uncertainty and crisis. © The Author(s) 2023.

Background and purpose. Empowering stroke patients with motor aphasia through memorizing the Al Quran to improve quality of life. Stroke causes neurological disorders that cause changes in quality of life. Quality of life is healthy physically, mentally, socially, environmentally and healthily, regardless of illness and can maintain health status. The purpose of the study was to determine the effect of memorizing the Al Quran and family support on stroke patients with motor aphasia disorder on functional communication skills, level of independence and quality of life. Materials and methods. The study was conducted at Ja'far Medika General Hospital Karanganyar, Central Java, Indonesia. The number of subjects was 102 stroke patients with motor aphasia, as evidenced by the results of head CT scan. Type of quantitative research, using experimental design, simple randomized the pretest-posttest control group design. Results. The effect of memorizing the Al Quran, family support, functional communication skills and the level of independence of the combined quality of life in stroke patients with motor aphasia impairment got the value of r square = 0.982 with p = 0.000 (p © 2019 Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

ABSTRACTABSTRACTAll-terrain vehicle (ATV) crashes are one of the leading causes of death and injury in agriculture across the United States. Use of ATVs is highly prevalent in rural areas and has seen an increase in their application for a variety of agricultural work tasks. Empirical research on the use of these vehicles for agricultural tasks and associated injuries is limited, especially in the United States. Moreover, little is known about the risk factors associated with ATV-related injuries while doing farm work. A comprehensive review was conducted to evaluate the current injury burden of ATV use in agriculture, the need for future research, and possible solutions related to agricultural ATV safety. Potential injury prevention approaches are evaluated based on the hierarchy of control, including elimination or substitution (using side-by-side vehicles instead of ATVs or modifying ATV design), engineering control (operator protection devices), administrative authority (regulations and standards in the United States and around the world), training, and use of personal protective equipment. In addition, vehicle nomenclature, risk factors, and crash mechanisms are reviewed. Recommendations to decrease the likelihood of ATV crashes and injuries are provided.

This research conducted to explore the role of Aisyiyah Muhammadiyah in the context of overcoming and eliminating tuberculosis (TB) through advocation, communication, social mobilization and sustainability of the community of TB care in Makassar city. This research used a qualitative approach through a deep interview with the key informant, namely coordinator and advocacy, communication, social mobilization staff program community in the TB care unit of south Sulawesi Aisyiyah. The purposive technique is used in informant selection to get more accurate data and the most suitable information source. This research produced a model of implementation in advocation, communication, social mobilization and program continuation activity in Aisyiyah Makassar TB care community. This research also described and identified the elements (institution or agency) involved in the implementation of Aisyiyah Makassar TB care community. The overall advocacy activity is an effort to present sustainable TB prevention or elimination. © 2019 IOP Publishing Ltd. All rights reserved.
