Sports science is an interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary science that strives to increase athletic performance and endurance. Sport science recognizes and prevents injuries. Sensors and statistics formalize Sports science. Runners need coaches and teams to support them before, during, and after the run race. Coaches generate running training plans to boost performance. Running race performances may be impacted by air pollution exposure while training, so coaches should consider limiting air pollution exposure when training. One of the external factors is Particulate Matter (PM2.5 and PM10). Sensors connecting to the Internet can record external factors and produce csv data. The foundation of supervised machine learning is the labeling process. Labeling a set of data is one of the laborious and time-consuming phases in every machine-learning application because it requires verifying the accuracy of the labels and making any necessary revisions. This research aimed to find a solution to automatically label numerous air particulate matter raw data using a rule based on parameters to reduce manual work, human errors and faster processes. This labeled data will later be used for supervised machine learning classification to support the coach in generating training programs for the runners in a Sports Information System. Based on Indonesia Air Quality index rule-based approach, labeled text data in csv has been generated and tested with PM2.5 and PM10 parameters in three scenarios with a 100% success rate. It was possible to automate the labeling process, and it explained how automation results in fast and accurate results. © 2023 IEEE.

Full-marathon and Half-marathon distances are categorized as road running. Full-marathon running is becoming increasingly popular, and Half-marathon is increasing worldwide in both sexes and all age groups. Some aspects might relate to Full-marathon and Half-marathon running performance during training and races. Technology also plays an essential role in supporting runners and running races. Technology like artificial intelligence (AI) now supports the running athlete, not only predicting performance and results. It can also be used later to help the coach generate training programs for the athlete. This research aimed to find many aspects of marathons and performance and analyze them to see if artificial intelligence could later support them. It used secondary data and a systematic literature review proposed by Kitchenham. Out of the 58 articles, 21 of them (36.21%) received a score of 1 from Q1. Additionally, 19 articles (32.76%) received a score of 1 from both Q2 and Q3. Among the 58 articles, 9 (15.52%) received a total score of 3, with all three Q1, Q2, and Q3 scores being 1. This indicates that artificial intelligence will likely support the content of these nine articles. Several factors were also discovered to be connected to marathons and athletic performance. These findings suggested that additional investigation into marathons and performance, later backed by artificial intelligence, remained pertinent and essential. © 2024 IEEE.

Images/videos captured from optical devices are usually degraded by turbid media such as haze, smoke, fog, rain and snow. Haze is the most common problem in outdoor scenes because of the atmosphere conditions. This paper proposes a novel single image-based dehazing framework to remove haze artifacts from images, where we propose two novel image priors, called the pixel-based dark channel prior and the pixel-based bright channel prior. Based on the two priors with the haze optical model, we propose to estimate atmospheric light via haze density analysis. We can then estimate transmission map, followed by refining it via the bilateral filter. As a result, high-quality haze-free images can be recovered with lower computational complexity compared with the state-of-the-art approach based on patch-based dark channel prior. ©2013 Optical Society of America.

Audio rendering of mathematical expressions has accessibility benefits for people with visual impairment. Seeking a systematic way to measure participants' perception of the rendered formulae with audio cues, we investigate the design of performance metrics to capture the distance between reference and perceived math expressions. We propose EAR-Math, a methodological approach for user-based evaluation of math rendering against a baseline. EAR-Math measures systems' performance using three fine-grained error rates based on the structural elements, arithmetic operators, numbers and identifiers in a formula. The proposed methodology and metrics were successfully applied in a pilot study, where 5 sighted and 2 blind participants evaluated 39 stimuli rendered by MathPlayer in Greek. In the obtained results, we observed that structural elements had the highest mean and variance of errors, which improved from 18% in the first attempt to 10% and 7% in two following attempts. © 2014 Springer International Publishing.

Road is a crucial asset for public services. Therefore, it must be repaired as soon as possible to bring safety for the driver on the road. In recent years research in monitoring and identifying road surface conditions using images captured by the low-cost camera or smartphone cameras and deep learning can identify road surface conditions efficiently and quickly. The study aims to explore the performance of the deep learning model. We proposed a U-Net architecture for road extraction from Road Traversing Knowledge (RTK) dataset. The result has been compared with different automatic segmentation models, and the development of segmentation using U-Net showed a more precise Accuracy of 97.08%, Mean-IoU 0.364, and faster computing time than the other models.

Comparison of duration between manual and digital measurement of peer assessment rating (PAR) index in a system based on 2d image

In orthodontics, the malalignment of teeth could be measured using many types of indexes. The Peer Assessment Rating (PAR) Index is one of the most common indexes in Orthodontics which has a 98% validity, especially from the occlusal surface. Many researchers use a PAR ruler to measure the PAR Index manually. The aim of this study is to compare the duration between the manual and digital measurement of PAR index in a system based on the 2-dimensional (2D) image. Materials & methods: The 110 dental casts in octagonal base form pre-orthodontic treatment were scanned to get the digital image data. Eleven components of PAR index of 110 dental casts in octagonal base form pre-orthodontic treatment were calculated manually and digitally. Both of duration were compared with the paired t-test. Result: The time consuming of manual measurement was 378.01 seconds and digital was 177.05 seconds. The paired t-test comparing to systems were significant (p=0.001). The average difference of 3 PAR index scores in assessing the same study model, that shows Digital is more thorough at 3 PAR parity score. Discussion: The paired T-test has been performed to the 11 PAR index component. A digital measurement of 11 PAR component is reliable and faster than using a measurement manually by model studies. The 2D image is clearer so that point determination is easier hence the measurement time is faster. Conclusions: It is a solution and recommended for the orthodontist to consider of using PARIndex system as one of the alternative tools to have a faster PAR index measurement. © 2017, University of Dicle.

The energy control of a Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) often leads to an unbalanced state between the battery storage system, energy extraction through photovoltaic systems energy, and energy utilization in the WSN. These disparities result in suboptimal wireless sensor network performance. The reliance on batteries is a major factor contributing to this problem. The Q-Learning Energy Management System (Q-EMS) is designed to address these challenges and improve energy management strategies. The Q-EMS algorithm used a learning process resulting in optimal actions for sensor nodes in different situations. The rewards or punishments nodes receive determine their decisions, which are determined by the Q-EMS algorithm. The Q-learning model approach is aimed at reducing energy consumption and supply in WSNs. Energy supply is categorized into battery-based, transfer-based, and harvesting, while energy consumption can be classified into task-cycle, mobility-based, and data-driven. The development of the Q Learning algorithm model has three scenarios: determining energy needs for WSN, effective energy harvesting strategy, and effective energy transfer. As a result, effective energy demand, harvesting and transfer using the Q-learning algorithm are balanced. However, it needs to be studied in more depth using real data in the field. In future research, I will use real data and optimize the use of the Q-Learning algorithm. © 2024 IEEE.

The use of the MathML language made possible to improve the accessibility of mathematics for blind or low-vision persons in digital media. Synthetic speech technologies have advanced significantly using MathML, however, the speech synthesizers' standard reading style is still not suitable for mathematics. Making mathematical reading of the speech synthesizers more natural and expressive is still a challenge. The creation of models to produce the appropriate prosody in the synthesized speech of math content is therefore necessary, as shown in previous research. This article presents a proposal for a model to improve prosody in the synthesized speech of mathematical expressions based on MathML. A corpus of mathematical expressions spoken by Mathematics teachers was created to support the model's development. The Fujisaki intonation model was adopted for intonation control, accent and phrase commands have been extracted from the corpus, and some adjustments have been made to manipulate prosodic parameters in the speech of mathematical expression in correlation with the MathML tree;additionally, a pattern of pauses control is being created. © 2020 ACM.

This paper addresses the dynamic location management for personal communication service (PCS) networks with consideration of mobility patterns. The popular hexagonal cellular architecture is considered. In this paper, we first introduce a coordinate system for the hexagonal cellular architectures. Then, we develop an all-direction mobility model based on the coordinate system for the hexagonal cellular architecture to cope with the mobility patterns of mobile terminals (MTs). The shape and size of the local area (LA) in the dynamic location management scheme is determined by minimizing the total location management cost with bounding the paging cost The optimization problem is transferred to maximize expected number of cells traversed by the MT in the LA with a given size of the LA. The analytic model of calculating the probabilities of any MT's moving is established. An algorithm is proposed to solve the optimization problem efficiently. © 2005 IEEE.

Smart city platforms manage resources and information to offer services to citizens. Developing technological solutions for this scenario is not trivial, given data and resource heterogeneity and the need for platform flexibility and adaptability. This work presents UFCity, a software architecture for smart city data ecosystems using microservices, artificial intelligence, and a three-layer networking structure. As a proof of concept, we developed a prototype and tested it in usage scenarios with real data. These use cases explored how our solution solves identified problems, showing meeting essential requirements for smart city platforms. In this way, UFCity is an alternative for data management in a smart city, presenting advantages over other solutions listed in this work in meeting the platform requirements.
