Accurately predicting an owl species based on its sound can be helpful for owl conservation. To build an accurate model for owl sound classification, deep learning is currently the most preferred algorithm, due to its excellent performance for modeling audio data. However, deep learning is generally underperformed for a small dataset, which is the case for recognizing scops owl sound. To overcome the issue, we proposed a transfer learning strategy, which is common for computer vision tasks, that can alleviate overfitting in a deep learning model for the owl sound classification. In our approach, we propose a neural network architecture consisting of the backbone of a EfficientNet model pre-Trained on the massive ImageNet database. The model takes the sound input that has been converted as two image representations: Spectrogram and Mel Frequency Cepstral Coefficients. Our strategy enables the use of a relatively small size of pre-Trained image classification model, which is widely available, for transfer learning in owl sound classification. Deploying the lightweight model in an automatic sound classifier provides a fast and accurate tool for various owl conservation purposes. © 2022 Elsevier B.V.. All rights reserved.

Sentiment Analysis for TikTok Review Using VADER Sentiment and SVM Model

TikTok, a social networking site for uploading short videos, has become one of the most popular. Despite this, not all users are happy with the app; there are criticisms and suggestions, one of which is reviewed via the TikTok app on the Google Play Store. The reviews were extracted and then used for training a sentiment analysis model. The VADER sentiment method was utilized to offer the review's initial labeling (positive, neutral, and negative). The result revealed that most reviews were classified as positive, meaning that the data were imbalanced and challenging to handle in further analysis. Therefore, Random Under-sampling (RUS) and Random Over-sampling (ROS) methods were deployed to deal with that condition. The labeled reviews were subsequently pre-processed using tools such as case folding, noise removal, normalization, and stopwords before being used for training a Support Vector Machine (SVM) model for sentiment classification. The SVM trained without resampling produced the most favorable results, with an F1-score of 0.80.

Early detection of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) needs to be increased to prevent further adverse impacts. Thus, the classifi-cation between ASD and Typically Development (TD) individuals is an intriguing task. This review study has collected 26 related papers to answer four research questions, i.e., what are the most used data inputs, brain atlases, and machine learning models for ASD classification, as also to discover the significant parts of the brain correlated with the ASD. It was eventually found that functional connectivity matrix, Support Vector Machine, and CC200 are the most frequently used data input, model, and brain atlas, respectively. Researchers also concluded that the posterior temporal fusiform cortex, intracalcarine cortex, cuneal cortex, subcallosal cortex, occipital pole, and lateral occipital cortex are the brain regions highly correlated with ASD.

Bioinformatics exploration into potential mechanisms of Calamus draco for colorectal cancer treatment

As one of the cancer types with the highest incidence rates, colorectal cancer (CRC) would benefit from treatments with fewer side effects and reduced treatment-resistant potential. One of the options is to harness the anti-CRC potential of natural products. Previous studies have shown that Calamus draco exudate, dragon's blood, has anticancer activity in liver cancer and acute myeloid leukemia, but its bioactivity has not been studied in CRC. Here we conduct a bioinformatics study based on network pharmacology to explore the anti-CRC potential and mechanism of C. draco -derived compounds. The bioinformatics pipeline is composed of compound and target collection, biological network evaluation, and enrichment analysis. We found that there are 43 bioactive compounds from C. draco targeting 91 CRC-related targets, of which most compounds target MEN1, PTGS2, and IDH1. Further analyses show that the targets of C. draco are involved in the cellular response to hypoxia. By inhibiting those targets, C. draco bioactive compounds can potentially hinder angiogenesis and increase treatment response efficacy.

The spin Seebeck effect (SSE) is sensitive to thermally driven magnetic excitations in magnetic insulators. Vanadium dioxide in its insulating low-temperature phase is expected to lack magnetic degrees of freedom, as vanadium atoms are thought to form singlets upon dimerization of the vanadium chains. Instead, we find a paramagnetic SSE response in VO2 films that grows as the temperature decreases below 50 K. The field and temperature-dependent SSE voltage is qualitatively consistent with a general model of paramagnetic SSE response and inconsistent with triplet spin transport. Quantitative estimates find a spin Seebeck coefficient comparable in magnitude to that observed in strongly magnetic materials. The microscopic nature of the magnetic excitations in VO2 requires further examination.

Measurement of peripheral nerve magnetostimulation thresholds of a head solenoid coil between 200 Hz and 88.1 kHz

Objective: Magnetic fields switching at kilohertz frequencies induce electric fields in the body, which can cause peripheral nerve stimulation (PNS). Although magnetostimulation has been extensively studied below 10 kHz, the behavior of PNS at higher frequencies remains poorly understood. This study aims to investigate PNS thresholds at frequencies up to 88.1 kHz and to explore deviations from the widely accepted hyperbolic strength-duration curve (SDC). Methods and procedures: PNS thresholds were measured in the head of 8 human volunteers using a solenoidal coil at 16 distinct frequencies, ranging from 200 Hz to 88.1 kHz. A hyperbolic SDC was used as a reference to compare the frequency-dependent behavior of PNS thresholds. Results: Contrary to the predictions of the hyperbolic SDC, PNS thresholds did not decrease monotonically with frequency. Instead, thresholds reached a minimum near 25 kHz, after which they increased by an average of 39% from 25 kHz to 88.1 kHz across subjects. This pattern indicates a significant deviation from previously observed behavior at lower frequencies. Conclusion: Our results suggest that PNS thresholds exhibit a non-monotonic frequency dependence at higher frequencies, diverging from the traditional hyperbolic SDC. These findings offer critical data for refining neurodynamic models and provide insights for setting PNS safety limits in applications like MRI gradient coils and magnetic particle imaging (MPI). Further investigation is needed to understand the biological mechanisms driving these deviations beyond 25 kHz. Clinical impact: These findings call for further basic research into biological mechanisms underlying high frequency PNS threshold trends, and supports refinement of safety guidelines for MRI and MPI systems for clinical implementation. © 2013 IEEE.

Depressive Disorders (DD) is one of the most prevalent mental disorders in the world that may lead to suicide cases. To prevent the latter, ubiquitous early detection systems may be effective. Recent studies have since researched the development of such systems by exploiting several forms of data, including video, audio, Ecological Momentary Assessments (EMA), and passive sensing data using sensors embedded in mobile devices. To summarize the trends, opportunities, and existing challenges in this field, this study reviewed 15 papers to answer four research questions. EMA was the most popular data to be used in this task, but other approaches, such as using video, audio, and typing behaviors, may be considered due to the subjectivity of EMA. These data were typically recorded using smartphones and analyzed using Machine Learning (ML). However, most of the developed systems had yet to be implemented. Overall, it was concluded that further studies may need to explore usages of more objective data in multimodal approaches as well as consider using Mobile Cloud Computing (MCC) to deploy these systems to provide more effective and efficient diagnoses. Future studies must also take into account the existing challenges of the data and infrastructures, such as the weaknesses of several data types, limitations of mobile devices, as well as the challenges of diagnosis approaches. © 2023 IEEE.

Many smoking-related diseases are difficult to treat and often fatal. Rather than treating diseased smokers, preventing the diseased is more achievable, though, many of them deny to being smokers, leading to another problem. Thus, this study aims to detect important aspects that can detect that the person is a smoker or not through their bio-signals through using SHAP, along with a comprehensive analysis of the used methods, gradient-boosting algorithms XGBoost, LightGBM, and CatBoost, known for their efficiency in handling complex datasets and non-linear relationships. The study then found that triglyceride, Gtp, hemoglobins significantly affect the body's responses to smoking, based on the CatBoosts’ results, having an AUC score of up to 0.8612 and an accuracy score of up to 0.7776 with the selected features.

Enzymes are biocatalysts with vital roles in biological functions and many industrial applications. Diverse enzymes are classified using Enzyme Commission (EC) nomenclature, making differentiation challenging. On the other hand, another biological information, gene ontology (GO), can describe the biological aspects of enzymes, covering related biological processes (BP), molecular functions (MF), and their locations within cells (CC). This study proposes a novel EC class and subclass classification of enzymes within the ontology subclass based on their GO semantics using a Bidirectional Encoder Representation of Transformer (BERT). The BERT model is first fine-tuned using the preprocessed GO term name and definition, with the enzymes in each ontology class (BP, MF, or CC) are also divided based on how the GO assigned, either through manual annotation (NONIEA) or electronically inferred (IEA). BERT successfully obtained 0.93, 0.60, 0.99, 0.90, 0.40, and 0.35 F1 scores during fine-tuning for BP IEA, BP NONIEA, MF IEA, MF NONIEA, CC IEA, and CC NONIEA, respectively. On the test set, the fine-tuned BERT significantly outperformed GOntoSim, a framework to calculate semantic similarity based on classical information theory, in EC class classification across all metrics with less inference time in all ontology subclass. Expanded further to the EC subclass, BERT can classify the enzyme on the EC subclass level in BP IEA and MF IEA ontology subclass. However, longer epochs are needed in fine-tuning. This result shows that the names and definitions of GO terms are distinguishable features in classifying enzymes as an alternative to the information content approach.

Numerous research on stunting supplementation interventions in Indonesia have been published. The information can be extracted through data mining, especially from academic research databases. In this paper, we presented a text mining-based literature review strategy to create a pipeline that researchers can use to accelerate the development of stunting supplementation intervention research in Indonesia. Utilizing various NLP (Natural Language Processing) techniques, data were crawled, processed, and visualized using Python. The crawling dataset used a module from the Pubmed API (Application programming Interface) to collect literature papers. The NLTK (Natural Language Toolkit) module and itertools were used to process text data. The n-grams model was applied to process tokens into bigrams and trigrams. Text information was visualized using Matplotlib and Word cloud packages. There is an increasing number of publication in stunting supplementation intervention according to our result, which was observed from 2015 to 2021. West Java was the province where most of the stunting research has been conducted, as determined by research abstracts. Top occurrences obtained from the bigram and trigrams models calculation produced different terms. The word pairings that occurred the most frequently in the bigram and trigram model analyses were "child-aged" and "iron-folic-acid," respectively. The findings of this study are expected to help researchers to obtain the latest research topics related to stunting supplementation interventions in Indonesia. © 2022 Elsevier B.V..
