With the rise of artificial intelligence, many people nowadays use artificial intelligence to help solve some problems in life, and the medical field is also with the rise of artificial intelligence, many people are slowly applying artificial intelligence to medical images to assist in decision-making, this study proposes a Yolov8 algorithm for object tracking of CT images of lung cancer, which can quickly tell the doctor where the cancer is and what the type of cancer is. The results of this study show that the Box_Loss, Cls_Loss, and Dfl_loss of the Yolov8 algorithm in detecting the location of lung cancer are 1.3689, 0.4552, and 1.5569 in the validation data, respectively, and thus this study suggests that this method can help physicians know the location of the tumor and what kind of tumor it belongs to. Bladder cancer is one of the most common human malignancies worldwide. Aberrant activation of signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) is crucial to driving malignant progression and predicting poor prognosis of multiple human cancers, including bladder cancer, making STAT3 a promising target of cancer therapeutics. Cryptotanshinone (CTS) is an anticancer ingredient of Danshen (Salvia miltiorrhiza), a top-graded Chinese medicinal herb. However, whether CTS targets STAT3 to exert its cytotoxic effect on human bladder cancer remains unknown. Herein, we demonstrated that CTS is cytotoxic to multiple human urinary bladder transitional cell carcinoma (TCC) cell lines while sparing normal human urothelial cells. CTS provoked apoptosis-dependent bladder TCC cytotoxicity, as apoptosis blockage by z-VAD-fmk markedly rescued the clonogenicity of CTS-treated cells. Besides, CTS was found to suppress constitutive and interleukin 6-inducible activation of STAT3, evidenced by the downregulation of STAT3 tyrosine 705 phosphorylation and BCL2, a recognized STAT3 transcriptional target. Notably, ectopic expression of a dominant-active STAT3 mutant (STAT3-C) or BCL-2 alleviated CTS-induced apoptosis and clonogenicity inhibition, thus confirming STAT3 blockade as a pivotal mechanism of CTS's cytotoxic action on bladder TCC cells. Lastly, immunoblotting revealed that CTS lowered the levels of active JAK2, an upstream kinase that mediates STAT3 tyrosine 705 phosphorylation. Altogether, we conclude that the blockade of the JAK2/STAT3/BCL-2 antiapoptotic signaling axis is a vital mechanism whereby CTS provokes bladder cancer cytotoxicity. The current evidence implicates CTS's potential to be translated into a bladder cancer therapeutic agent. © 2024 Wiley Periodicals LLC.

Evaluating masked self-supervised learning frameworks for 3D dental model segmentation tasks

The application of deep learning using dental models is crucial for automated computer-aided treatment planning. However, developing highly accurate models requires a substantial amount of accurately labeled data. Obtaining this data is challenging, especially in the medical domain. Masked self-supervised learning has shown great promise in overcoming the challenge of data scarcity. However, its effectiveness has not been well explored in the 3D domain, particularly on dental models. In this work, we investigate the applicability of the four recently published masked self-supervised learning frameworks-Point-BERT, Point-MAE, Point-GPT, and Point-M2AE-for improving downstream tasks such as tooth and brace segmentation. These frameworks were pre-trained on a proprietary dataset of over 4000 unlabeled 3D dental models and fine-tuned using the publicly available Teeth3DS dataset for tooth segmentation and a self-constructed braces segmentation dataset. Through a set of experiments we demonstrate that pre-training can enhance the performance of downstream tasks, especially when training data is scarce or imbalanced—a critical factor for clinical usability. Our results show that the benefits are most noticeable when training data is limited but diminish as more labeled data becomes available, providing insights into when and how this technique should be applied to maximize its effectiveness. © The Author(s) 2025.

We propose a new statistical modeling method to analyze functional relationship between predictor variables and correlated response variables, and apply it for modeling the number of HIV and AIDS cases influenced by early-age marriages and contraceptive users. The proposed method is LS-Spline BNNBR that is a Biresponse Nonparametric Negative Binomial Regression (BNNBR) based on least squares spline (LS-Spline). To validate the proposed method, we compare it with classical method, namely Ordinary Least Square Biresponse Parametric Negative Binomial Regression (OLS-BPNBR). The results show that the LS-Spline BNNBR method provided deviance value of 7.542334 which is smaller than that of OLS-BPNBR method, namely 7.993935. Thus, the proposed method has better prediction fit than the classical method. • This study discusses new statistical modeling method for the number of HIV and AIDS cases influenced by early-age marriages and contraceptive users where the response variables are correlated with each other. • The model estimation results show that the number of HIV and AIDS cases in Indonesia will decrease if the early-age marriages percentage increases and the contraceptive users percentage decreases. • The results are useful to provide a scientific basis for making policies to control the number of HIV and AIDS cases in Indonesia. © 2025 The Authors

Secure decentralized decisions to enhance coordination in consolidated hospital systems

Shared decision making has become a crucial solution to build a consolidated healthcare system. While there is some research in the healthcare literature discussing the advantages and disadvantages of shared decision making, its efficiency has not been addressed quantitatively. In this paper, we propose a Decentralized Patients Assignment System (DPAS) as a universal decentralized decision making architecture. It utilizes the blockchain technology, machine learning, and integer programing to enhance coordination among healthcare providers and patients in consolidated hospital systems. To test the efficiency of the proposed DPAS, a prototype system is developed using an Agent-based model and Ethereum and is compared to the current practice of central referral systems in consolidated hospital systems. The agent-based model consists of four agents including patients, physicians, hospitals, and miners interacting within a decentralized system. The proposed system highlights the importance of interoperability and consensus among healthcare agents in the decision making process. The results demonstrate the DPAS efficiency in decreasing computational time and rejection rates for patients transfer. © 2019, © 2019 “IISE”.

According to the market research report, the nuclear decommissioning services market is currently experiencing considerable growth, with a projected Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of nearly 13% during the 2020–2024 forecast period. This expansion is primarily fueled by the advancement of Industry 4.0, in conjunction with the emergence of cutting-edge technologies such as the Internet of Things, big data, artificial intelligence, and 5G. Even though the fact that robots have already been utilized in the nuclear industry, their adoption has been hindered by conservative regulations. However, the nuclear decommissioning market presents an opportunity for the advancement of robotics technology. The British have already invested heavily in encouraging the use of intelligent robots for nuclear decommissioning, and other countries, such as Taiwan, should follow suit. Taiwan's flourishing robotics development industry in manufacturing, logistics, and other domains can be leveraged to introduce advanced robotics in the decommissioning of its nuclear power plants. By doing so, Taiwan can establish itself as a competitive player in the nuclear decommissioning services market for the next two decades. © 2023 Korean Nuclear Society

Virtual reality (VR) enable us to train in a safe environment using computer-generated simulations. One such simulated environment is the Deepwater Horizon operation, and VR enables us to evaluate trainees’ and operators’ situation awareness (SA) in a non-hazardous environment. One unobtrusive and viable SA evaluation method might be the use of eye movements, specifically the time-ordered visual scan paths. In this research, we investigated how SA can be associated with visual scan paths in an anomaly detection task within the oil drilling rig virtual reality simulator. The results show that the trainees having lower SA tended to create random visual scan paths whereas the trainees having higher SA tended to create concentrated and refined visual scan paths. The results show promise in developing timely intervention methods through analyzing the visual scan path characteristics of the trainees. © 2020 by Human Factors and Ergonomics Society. We investigated the benefits of integrating subjective measures (e.g. verbal responses) with biometrics (e.g. eye tracking) for analyses of situation awareness (SA) in complex, high-stakes tasks. Specifically, the techniques were applied to the field of oil and gas drilling. A pre-existing accident scenario, based on gas influx incidents at the North Sea Rigs, was implemented into a virtual reality offshore operation simulation study where novice and expert participants completed the same, standardized drilling task. Verbal responses and visual oculomotor data were collected simultaneously during real-time simulated incident management. Analyses revealed both converging and unique insights of both metrics, mapping the content and time-course of critical differences in situation awareness. Discussion focuses on cognitive mechanisms mediating expert-novice differences and benefits of integrated decision vulnerability assessment in naturalistic, simulation-based research. © 2018 Institute of industrial Engineers (IIE). The increase in free trade will also amplify the exchange of goods between countries and islands, especially in the seaports. The manual operation of the gantry-crane at the seaports has a risk due to human negligence. For that reason, automation is strongly needed in the loading and unloading of the container. Camera-based object detection is implemented to achieve this goal. In the recent years, CNN gives better accuracy in term of image classification, recognition and detection compared to the traditional method that use handcrafted features. In this paper, several advanced detection methods using CNN-based object detection, namely MobileNet, ResNet, and Faster RCNN are compared to detect and track the movement of containers. The results of the experiment show that the SSD ResNet and Faster RCNN methods are superior in terms of detection accuracy based on the Precision, Recall, Average Precision, and IoU values. MobileNet v3 excels in speed detection compared to the other methods. © 2021 IEEE.
