Inspired by nature, Gyroid structures have emerged as an alternative for designing heat transfer equipment using additive manufacturing technology. Their high strength-to-weight ratio and high surface area-to-volume ratio make them ideal for modeling heat exchangers (HXs) for various thermal management applications. Multiple experiments were carried out for reproducibility and reliability, and the relative standard deviation of the average heat transfer rate and overall heat transfer coefficient were calculated, averaging 4.2% and 5.39%, respectively. Uncertainty analysis revealed good agreement between the simulation and experimental data, affirming the reliability of the findings. The HX with an uneven-flow channel exhibited a higher overall heat transfer coefficient (1112.85 W/m2K) compared to the even-flow channel HX (1095.81 W/m2K) under identical boundary conditions. Additionally, a comparison of materials indicated that aluminum provided superior heat transfer performance due to its higher thermal conductivity compared to SS316L. The findings suggest that decreasing the wall thickness of Gyroid HXs significantly enhances their heat transfer capabilities. Furthermore, varying the cell size revealed that smaller cell sizes offer superior heat transfer characteristics due to their increased surface area. These results underscore the importance of comprehensive design considerations in HX development to enhance thermal performance and meet specific application needs. © 2024, The Authors. High-tightness woven fabric (HTWF) density measurements have been developed using image analysis. In this study, the measurement of HTWF density is based on the three-dimensional surface structure of the fabric using the stereo photometry method. The woven fabric image was recorded with two fields of view (FOV). In each FOV, the image was recorded six times with different light directions. The unbiased stereo photometry algorithm was used to reconstruct the six images, resulting in a three-dimensional surface structure. The Hough transform detects and corrects the reconstructed image's skew. The yarn position is obtained using the fabric surface structure profile. Finally, the weft and warp profile curves were smoothed using a locally weighted smoothing (LOESS) filter. The measurement error of woven fabric density at FOV 1 for twill weave patterns with errors in warp 2.88 to 5.83% and weft 1.69 to 4.93%, and satin weave patterns with errors in warp 1.15 to 2.93% and weft 0.96 to 3.22%. While the measurement error of woven fabric density at FOV 2 for twill weave patterns with errors in warp 0.25 to 1.31% and weft 0.28 to 1.82%, and satin weave patterns with errors in warp 0.04 to 1.01% and weft 0.04 to 0.82%. © 2023 IEEE.

The performance of several adversarial search algorithms is very dependent on the move generation and ordering procedure, as well as on the transposition table characteristics. In this work we compare Alpha-beta, MTD-f and NegaScout performance in the presence and absence of the following features: transposition table, Hash Move heuristic and move ordering using the evaluation function. We found that NegaScout did not yield major improvements over Alpha-Beta, which is likely due to the move ordering performed using a weak evaluation function. In most cases, MTD-f examines fewer nodes, and completes fixed depth searches in less time than Alpha-beta and NegaScout. This is consistent with the literature when using coarse grained evaluation functions. Finally, we found that enabling move ordering leads to fewer nodes examined than enabling the Hash Move heuristic, but, as sorting is time consuming, search is slower. Best results overall are found using MTD-f with all enhancements enabled. These results, in a previously unexplored game, are consistent with existing literature. This enables us to make predictions of algorithm and heuristics' performance in novel games, based on an analysis of the games' features, without having to implement all techniques. © 2022 IEEE.

We construct new families of multidimensional periodic arrays that can be used for digital watermarking videos and images. Each member of each family is composed of columns of cyclic shifts of a Sidelnikov sequence in which the shifts are given by a multidimensional m1×m2×…×mn "grid" that is determined by applying a logarithmic quadratic map to the elements of a direct product Zm1×Zm2×…×Zmn. These arrays have peak auto-correlation on the order of p2l and non-peak auto- and cross-correlation on the order of pl, where l≥2 and m1m2…mn=pl-1, thereby improving the peak auto-correlation to nonpeak auto- and cross-correlations of other known constructions. Traffic forecasting is essential for the intelligent transportation system and is applied to managing traffic networks. Recently, there has been a growing interest in incorporating spatial and temporal variables into the methodology of traffic forecasting. The primary emphasis of modern research lies in the complex architecture of graph neural networks. In contrast, preprocessing data for the input is also essential. Especially traffic data, such as traffic flows, have high nonlinearity and complex patterns. The traffic graph signal is attributes that are associated with the nodes. In this paper, the step of preprocessing data utilized graph signal processing (GSP) to filter noise from traffic signal data before the traffic flow data was applied for prediction tasks. The adjusted parameter for filtering noise was used. In this paper, the parameter was set from 0.1 to 10. The result shows that the increasing parameter filter of the graph data was smoothed filtered. Moreover, the smooth data is affected by the time horizons. For the increasing time horizon, we can use the large parameter and get the prediction error smaller than the shorter time horizon. © 2023 IEEE.

Knowing if a Sokoban level has a solution requires a high investment of computational resources. This also happens when estimating difficulty; heuristics may not be precise, only work for simplified cases, be discontinuous and take much computing time. The calculation of high-fidelity heuristics is expensive and the performance of optimization systems is reduced by the time they take to deliver the result. In this article, two Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) are implemented, a classifier of resolvable Sokoban boards and a regressor that predicts the number of pushes necessary to solve them. These obtained an accuracy of 79 % and MAE of 28, respectively. Trained models are useful in systems that do not require optimality, but rather guidance within the search space that balances time and quality. These networks can be used as surrogate methods, replacing high-fidelity heuristics that take too long.

Natural antimicrobial properties of liquid smoke derived from cocoa pod shells in meatball preservation

The liquid smoke, which is produced by pyrolyzing wood materials containing cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin, can be used to preserve food. Phenolic, acetic, and carbonyl compounds found in liquid smoke can serve as a natural preservative. This study aimed to determine meatball preservation ability of liquid smoke from cocoa pod shells. Specifically, cocoa pod shells were converted to liquid smoke using slow pyrolysis at three different temperatures, 300 °C, 340 °C and 380 °C. Prior to its use, liquid smoke was purified using distillation at 190 °C. Liquid smoke at concentrations of 0.5%–3.0% was then used to preserve meatballs using an immersion method. Total volatile base-nitrogen (TVB-N), total plate count (TPC), and most probable number (MPN) analyses were used to evaluate preservation performance of liquid smoke. The statistical methods for MPN using one-way ANOVA followed by Tukey's tests. The SNI (Standar Nasional Indonesia) threshold to test whether meatballs remained fresh (TVB-N <20 mg N/g). TPC test results indicated that beef meatballs stay fresh at room temperature for 42 h or 48 h of storage using 0.5% or 1%–3% liquid smoke concentrations, respectively. Based on MPN tests showed meatballs could last for 48 h for all samples. Liquid smoke produced from cocoa pod shells can be used as a natural preservative for beef meatballs;however, liquid smoke concentrations influence the maximum preservation period for meatballs. © 2023 The Author(s)

The fragmentation of health information systems has hindered seamless data exchange in healthcare services, posing challenges in achieving efficient, real-time access to patient health data. This study addresses these issues by evaluating the implementation of a semi-real-time transcription system using a distributed architecture with a message broker to enhance the documentation of clinical examination processes in primary health services. The research focuses on assessing the feasibility of this approach by measuring key performance indicators such as latency and word error rate (WER) during clinical conversation transcription. Audio recordings were segmented into shorter fragments to simulate real-time transcription, and data transmission was conducted through the Advanced Message Queuing Protocol (AMQP). The findings demonstrate that the average latencys achieved by semi-real-time transcription system is 7.7s, indicating its potential suitability for clinical documentation applications that do not require strict real-time processing. However, glitches observed in the message broker's forwarding mechanism suggest the need for further optimization to ensure consistent performance. Future work aims to develop strategies to minimize transcription errors, enhance reliability, and improve the overall integration of this system in healthcare settings. This study contributes to the advancement of health information systems by offering architecture into scalable and effective methods for semi-real-time data transcription and interoperability. © 2024 IEEE.

Electric vehicles (EV s) boast zero tailpipe emissions, directly improving air quality and lowering greenhouse gas emissions. Despite the promise of EVs for sustainable transportation, their limited range is a key challenge. Regenerative braking is a promising approach for enhancing the driving range. This research proposes a study of Interval Type-2 Fuzzy Logic (IT2FL) control to improve regenerative braking efficiency in an electric trike. Employing IT2FL control for regenerative braking recovers 35.84% of energy, translating to a 91.053 km increase in driving range. The IT2FL method achieved a range of 50 km/kWh, representing a significant 41.7% improvement. Furthermore, utilizing the Nie-Tan Method reducer within the IT2FL framework could extend the range by an additional 2.3 km, resulting in a 3 % increase in energy recovery. These findings demonstrate the effectiveness of IT2FL control in enhancing regenerative braking efficiency for the electric trike. © 2024 IEEE.

UV exposure, soil burial, and storage ability tests were carried out on biocomposite films with different concentrations of nanocrystal cellulose to study their biodegradability and morphological properties compared to neat whey protein films. The addition of nanocrystal cellulose as a natural filler to the whey protein based film can change a variety of properties such as strength, shelf life, biodegradability, and resistance to environmental conditions that are required in food packaging. The degradation films were assessed by UV exposure and soil burial tests. On the other hand, packaging ability is analyzed through storage tests under controlled conditions. After the analysis, changes in physical, chemical, and morphological properties were observed in the biocomposite film. From these results, we can conclude that the whey protein film with the addition of 3% nanocrystal cellulose would be a more favorable choice because of its better properties and suitability for the proposed biodegradable food packaging application. © 2023 Elsevier Ltd.
