Stemming, an essential procedure in natural language processing (NLP), diminishes words to their base forms, facilitating tasks such as information retrieval and sentiment analysis. Although stemming techniques for highresource languages are well-developed, numerous low-resource languages, including dialect of Tulang Bawang, suffer from inadequate solutions owing to a scarcity of linguistic data and resources. Existing systems, including rule-based stemmers, have demonstrated efficacy in processing low-resource languages such as Indonesian and Javanese by utilizing established morphological rules. Nonetheless, these methods encounter considerable obstacles, such as restricted adaptability, inability to accommodate unusual root structures, and excessive dependence on fixed rules that might result in over- or understemming. Rule-based methodologies frequently misidentify roots when faced with intricate affixes or unconventional word forms. We introduce an improved rule-based Tulang Bawang Stemmer aimed at overcoming these constraints by enhancing current linguistic rules and integrating new patterns specific to the language's morphology. Assessed on 500 test samples and 200 independent test samples, our improved stemmer attained gold standard evaluation metrics of 96.2% and 94%, respectively, surpassing prior implementations in both precision and generalization. The findings demonstrate the potential of enhanced rule-based techniques to improving NLP for lowresource languages. Improved stemming performance enables better downstream applications, promotes more efficient text analysis, and advances research in underrepresented languages.

Membrane fouling remains a critical challenge in wastewater treatment, particularly in applications involving oil-water emulsions. This study addresses this issue by fabricating antifouling membranes from repurposed cigarette filter waste, modified with tannic acid and FeCl₃ (ferric chloride) coatings. These modifications enhance membrane hydrophilicity, antifouling properties, flux recovery, and selectivity through an environmentally friendly approach. The membranes were prepared using the non-solvent induced phase separation (NIPS) method and subsequently coated through vacuum filtration. Key performance metrics included pure water flux, oil emulsion selectivity, and antifouling properties. The antifouling mechanism was attributed to the hydrophilic and protective layers formed by the tannic acid and FeCl₃ modifications, which reduced fouling and improved flux recovery. Characterization revealed that the tannic acid and FeCl₃ modifications created a hydrophilic layer with uniform pore distribution, leading to an oil rejection rate of up to 97 % and an increased flux recovery ratio of 85 %, compared to 65 % in unmodified membranes. The results highlight the potential of waste-derived membranes as a sustainable alternative for industrial wastewater treatment, aligning with the principles of circular economy and green chemistry. Future work should explore long-term stability, surface charge effects, and optimization of additive concentrations to enhance performance and antifouling efficiency further. © 2025 The Authors

In this study, we present a proof-of-concept neuroelectronic interface (NEI) for extracellular stimulation and recording of neurophysiological activity in spiral ganglion neurons (SGNs) cultured in vitro on three-dimensional, micro-patterned substrates with customized microtopographies, integrated within a 196-channel microelectrode array (MEA). This approach enables mechanotaxis-driven neuronal contact guidance, promoting SGN growth and development, which is highly sensitive to artificial in vitro environments. The microtopography geometry was optimized based on our previous studies to enhance SGN alignment and neuron-electrode interactions. The NEI was validated using SGNs dissociated from rat pups in the prehearing period and cultured for seven days in vitro (DIV). We observed viable and proliferative cellular cultures with robust neurophysiological responses in the form of local field potentials (LFPs) resembling action potentials (APs), elicited both spontaneously and through electrical stimulation. These findings provide deeper insights into SGN behavior and neuron-microenvironment interactions, laying the groundwork for further advancements in neuroelectronic systems. © 2025 by the authors.

This research introduces a deep learning framework that combines convolutional neural networks with autoencoders to improve the diagnostic accuracy of knee osteoarthritis. The study utilized a publicly available dataset from the Mendeley Data repository, where knee joint images were preprocessed using Contrast Limited Adaptive Histogram Equalization to enhance contrast and ensure consistent image sizing. Initially, an autoencoder was employed in an unsupervised manner to learn compressed representations of the data. These representations were then used to train a CNN to classify knee images into 'healthy' and 'osteoarthritic' categories. The model was trained using an 80:20 split for training and testing data, incorporating early stopping and data augmentation techniques to prevent overfitting and enhance generalization. Performance metrics such as accuracy, precision, recall, and the area under the Receiver Operating Characteristic curve (ROCAUC) were used to evaluate the model, resulting in a high test accuracy of 98.95%. The high precision and recall rates further confirmed the model's robustness in diagnosing KOA. To enhance interpretability, Gradient-weighted Class Activation Mapping (Grad-CAM) was applied to identify critical regions in the images that influenced the model's decisions. Additionally, t-Distributed Stochastic Neighbor Embedding (t-SNE) was used to visualize the high-dimensional encoded features in a two-dimensional space, providing deeper insights into how the model differentiates between classes. The promising results of this deep learning approach suggest its potential for broader applications in medical imaging diagnostics. By providing healthcare professionals with a tool that enhances diagnostic accuracy and operational efficiency, this framework lays the foundation for developing scalable, AI-driven diagnostic systems for various complex medical conditions. © 2025 Institute of Physics Publishing. Deaf people are people who are unable to communicate with spoken language. Deaf people communicate with the Indonesian Sign System or commonly known as SIBI. In fact, deaf people often communicate and socialize with normal people, but not all normal people understand and understand SIBI. We as researchers want to provide a way out so that deaf people can convey information to normal people, who do not understand SIBI. The input of this research is SIBI movement which is saved in Video format, then the video is processed with the LSTM algorithm. Video The results of the processing are in the form of classified words, the output of this research is in the form of text. The word data set in this study consisted of 3 words, each word contained 30 data sets. The level of accuracy of this study when recognizing words in SIBI that do not hit the face is 100%. © 2023 IEEE.

The cement industry in Indonesia, heavily relies on coal, contributing significantly to greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Simultaneously, Java Island generates over 23 million tons of municipal solid waste (MSW) annually, with limited utilization for energy recovery. This study evaluates the feasibility of substituting coal with refuse-derived fuel (RDF) from MSW in Java's cement industry, focusing on environmental, economic, and technical aspects. Scenario analyses indicate that substituting 10%, 20%, and 30% of thermal energy with RDF could divert up to 8.7 million tons of MSW from landfills annually, reducing GHG emissions by up to 2.77 million Gg CO₂-eq. These reductions align with Indonesia's environmental policies and global climate commitments under the Paris Agreement. The economic assessment demonstrates the viability of RDF, with potential annual cost savings of up to $421 million. Beyond addressing coal dependency, RDF adoption supports circular economy practices, reduces landfill reliance, and mitigates environmental pollution. However, challenges such as infrastructure gaps and regulatory barriers require attention. This study provides actionable insights to guide policy formulation, foster industry investment, and facilitate the implementation of RDF-based energy solutions. By bridging waste management and sustainable energy practices, the findings contribute to Indonesia's renewable energy goals, emphasizing the practical applications of RDF for a more sustainable future in industrial operations. © 2025 The Authors

This study proposes a new approach, a communal-based domestic rainwater harvesting (CDRWH) system, which is a new model that combines domestic and communal rainwater harvesting systems. This model is an alternative solution to improve system performance and utilize rainwater overflow from the system. Rainwater runoff from several domestic tanks is channeled to a communal tank to be collected, processed, and redistributed to needy domestic tanks. Overflow from the communal tank is used for groundwater recharge. The CDRWH system model aims to increase water supply, reduce runoff, and conserve groundwater. The model simulation uses daily water balance analysis and yield before spillage algorithm. The simulation scenario uses variations in roof area, number of house occupants, storage tank volume, and rainfall categories: 20 years, wet year, normal year, and dry year. Jagakarsa, an urban area in South Jakarta, was selected for the CDRWH system modeling. The results showed that the CDRWH model significantly improved the performance of the volumetric reliability (VR) and time reliability (TR) systems. In addition, the model could show a comparison of total groundwater recharge (GWR) and groundwater extraction (GWE), where the GWR capacity was higher. This allows centralized rainwater management in communal tanks, thereby reducing groundwater usage. The design of this model is simple. Therefore it can be easily duplicated for application in other locations. © 2025 The Authors

As the world has struggled against a virus, technology enabled our survival in many dimensions. In many cases adoptions of technologies which would have lasted years happened in weeks if not days. For example, remote health care adoption was accelerated immensely to deal with the challenged health system. We are about to see similar technological innovations ramp up the hard hit economies through many different sectors. As always said, challenges create opportunities. Our field of engineering and Technology Management is growing. IEEE Technology and engineering Management Society (TEMS) just finished the first virtual conference: TEMSCON 2020. As a part of it we held an editors’ panel. Holding the conference on line enabled many editors of the leading journals in the field attend the event.

According to literature and our research, the styrene polymerization mechanism is identified by α-methylstyrene (AMS). This study investigated the basic exothermic behavior of styrene and its major derivatives, AMS, and trans-β-methylstyrene (TBMS), by two calorimeters, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermal activity monitor (TAM), to compare and evaluate their thermal kinetics on polymerization. DSC and TAM were employed for dynamic scanning and isothermal ageing tests to calculate thermokinetic parameters of styrene and styrene containing 10 ppm 4-tertiary-butylcatechol (TBC), AMS, and TBMS. Certain prominent differences were observed and discussed between AMS and TBMS obtained from DSC and TAM. All of the results could be provided to the relevant plants for lessening the degree of hazard. Results indicated that styrene, AMS, and TBMS have potential exothermic hazards, especially during the higher temperature. © 2008 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Stinging nettle is a perennial herbaceous plant belonging to the Urticaceae family, In Bali Indonesia called jelatang. This species is considered a weed in intensive agriculture as its fast vegetative growth and high densities enable increased spread and soil coverage. In Tabanan Bali Indonesia several places to grow are in Denbantas altitude 200-500 meters and in Bedugul altitude 1000 -1500 meters above sea level. Nettle fibers are natural fibers that can be utilized as reinforcement for composite materials. Natural fibers have been used worldwide as a potential replacement for glass fiber reinforced composites, over the last few years has been applied in the automotive sector, aircraft interior and interior of the building. Properties of the natural fiber is lighter, easier to handle, not abrasive, and low cost. The objective of this study was to compare the composition and the tensile strength of the fiber nettle based growing areas from Bedugul and Denbantas. The method used is a fiber tensile test equipment, fourier transformer infrared red (FTIR), thermo-gravimetric analysis (TGA) and scanning electron microscope (SEM). From the research of nettle fibers that stinging nettle from Denbantas has a better tensile strength than Bedugul nettle. The TGA test the visible fiber from Denbantas is superior when used as a composite reinforcement. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
