Thermoelectric Properties of Misfit Layered Bismuth-Based Rhodium Oxides, (Bi,Pb)2Sr2Rh2Oy

Rhodium oxides, including a misfitlayered structure with alternate stacking of a rock salttype layer and a hexagonal RhO2 layer, are expected to have good thermoelectric properties. Among them, the thermoelectric properties (electrical conductivity (σ), Seebeck coefficient (S), Figure of merit (ZT) and calculated thermal conductivity (κ) by S, σ, ZT, and absolute temperature (T)) of bismuth-based rhodium oxides ((Bi1-x,Pbx) 2Sr2Rh2Oy, x = 0 and 0.02, hereafter BSR and BPSR, respectively) were investigated. In comparison with Bi2Sr2Co2Oy (BSC) at 700°C, S and κ enhanced (increased S, 110 (BSR) and 105 μV K-1 (BPSR) from 85 μV K-1 (BSC) and decreased κ, 0.32 (BSR) and 0.50 W m-1 K-1 (BPSR) from 1.75 W m-1 K-1 (BSC)), whereas σ decreased (15 (BSR) and 31 S cm-1 (BPSR) from 70 S cm-1 (BSC)). BPSR reached the highest ZT value of 0.067 at 700°C, compared to those of 0.056 (BSR) and 0.027 (BSC).

Enhancement of Oxygen Evolution Activity of Ruddlesden-Popper-Type Strontium Ferrite by Stabilizing Fe4+

Development of active iron based water oxidation for designing an ideal artificial photosynthesis devices operating under benign neutral pH is highly demanded. We investigated the electrocatalytic activity of Ruddlesden-Pop-per-type strontium ferrite (Sr3Fe2O7) toward the oxygen evolution reaction (OER). Owing to the temperature-dependent efficiency of the charge disproportionation of Fe4+, the OER activity of Sr3Fe2O7 varied with the temperature, and the onset potential for the OER at a neutral pH underwent a negative shift of approximately 200 mV by increasing the temperature for the stabilization of Fe4+. When metal substitution was made to Sr3Fe2O7 for stabilizing Fe4+ at room temperature, the temperature dependence of the OER activity disappeared and the OER was driven at a small overpotential without increasing the temperature, indicating that the stabilization of Fe4+ is substantially important for achieving high OER activity.

Visible light-induced two-step overall water-splitting was achieved by combining two types of photocatalysts, which were prepared by introducing foreign elements into rutile titanium dioxide (TiO2) and strontium titanate (SrTiO3) with a controlled electronic band structure. Rutile TiO2 and SrTiO3 were doped with chromium and tantalum (Cr,Ta-TiO2) and with rhodium (Rh-SrTiO3), respectively, to introduce visible-light sensitivity. Under irradiation with only visible light from a 420-nm LED lamp, the simultaneous liberation of hydrogen and oxygen with a molar ratio of ~2:1 was achieved with these two types of photocatalysts in the presence of iodate ion/iodide ion as a redox mediator.

A hierarchical set of kinetic models were proposed and discussed for simulation of autocatalytic decomposition of cumene hydroperoxide (CHP) in cumene at low temperatures. The hierarchy leads from a formal model of full autocatalysis, which is based on conversion degree as a state variable, through a two-stage autocatalytic concentration-based model to a meticulous multi-stage model of the reaction. By the ForK (Formal Kinetics) and DesK (Descriptive Kinetics) software, developed by ChemInform Saint Petersburg (CISP) Ltd., the related kinetic parameters and their significance have also been estimated and elucidated. Through this best-fit approach, it is possible to formulate a systematic methodology on the kinetic studies for thermal decomposition of typical organic peroxides with autocatalytic nature, specifically at low temperature ranges. © 2009 Akadémiai Kiadó, Budapest, Hungary.

A boundary tracking method crucial to function approximation-based image coding is proposed that solves the problems caused by duplicate tracking the common boundaries of color regions when methods conventionally applied to bilevel raster images are inappropriately used. Experimental evaluation is performed to verify its effectiveness.

Knowledge of hand-woven motif recognition is only owned by the older generation, which has not been passed down to the younger generation. Moreover, computer technology can be used to support the recognition of traditional woven fabric motifs. The aim of this research is to conduct a literature review on hand-woven fabric motif recognition, with an emphasis on performance accuracy, techniques, and datasets utilized. This research included three distinct stages of systematic literature review (SLR): planning, execution, and reporting of findings. We found several datasets between 924,845 data and the number of classes between 3–25 class. Based on research result, we obtained several methods for hand-woven fabric motif recognition focused on performance examination. We recommended image pre-processing method, including Adaptive Filtering Denoising, Adaptive Wiener Filtering, Histogram Equalization, Gradient Pyramid (GP) Decomposition. Moreover, we suggested five feature extraction methods, including Radon Transform, Wavelet Transform, Locally Rotation Invariance Measure (LBP-ROR), Transform Invariant Low-Rank Textures (TILT) and Histogram of Oriented Gradients (HOG). For learning method, we recommend Fuzzy C-Mean (FCM), Convolutional neural network (CNN), Deep Neural Network (DNN), MobileNets, Inception-v3 and ResNet-50.

The study of how water can be used sustainably through risk management has become increasingly complex due to the many different aspects involved. This study used a three-step approach to investigate the issue: trend analysis, bibliometric analysis, and the development of a conceptual TOE framework. The trend analysis identified water conservation and water crisis as the most frequently mentioned keywords, suggesting the need to address public concern for these issues. The bibliometric analysis found that 37% of the articles were published in the last three years, and environmental science and technology was the most common field of study. The TOE framework was used to link and group the keywords (risk factors) from the articles into three categories: technology, organization, and environment. This framework provides a way to understand the different factors that contribute to water scarcity and to develop strategies for addressing these risk factors. The three risk factors with the highest scores were statistical analysis (technology), climate change (environment), and uncertainty (environment). In the technology category, statistical analysis, sustainable development, and water quality were the most important risk factors. In the organization category, water management, governance, and water markets were the most important risk factors. In the environment category, climate change, uncertainty, and flood were the most important risk factors. This study is expected to provide valuable insights into the research trends that are important for achieving sustainability in water resource management, both in conventional and academic studies, over the past decade. Voice synthesizers still present several challenges in the speech of mathematical content, as spoken mathematics has quite peculiar rules. In the synthesized speech, pauses help blind and visually impaired students identify the limits of mathematical operators and subexpressions. However, most studies on pauses define them uniformly or use simple punctuation marks to force the synthesizer to introduce pauses in certain parts of the expression. Speech is a dynamic process and pauses in expressions also need to be dynamic to make the synthetic speech of expressions more natural, as this can help in memorizing this type of content. This work proposed a dynamic model of pauses for mathematical expressions. Collected math expressions spoken by teachers were used to create the model. These expressions were useful for identifying patterns and creating a linear regression model. Blind and visually impaired students evaluated the model. Some improvements were observed when we compared the synthesized mathematical expressions with the model and Audiomath, the parameter tool used in this study.

Fuzzy c-means is well-known among the various methods of fuzzy cluster analysis. L/sub 1/-based fuzzy c-means has also been studied in recent years. This paper discusses the L/sub 1/-based fuzzy c-means of data with fuzzy uncertainties. The data unit is supposed to be the Cartesian product of fuzzy numbers. The metric between a data unit with uncertainty and a cluster center is defined using minimum and maximum distances. The fuzzy c-means algorithm is an alternative procedure for the optimization of the cluster center and the fuzzy set membership, while the solution of the cluster center for uncertain data cannot be obtained directly. An algorithm for the solution of cluster centers based on the L/sub 1/ metric for uncertain data is developed in this paper. Using this algorithm, an exact alternate optimization procedure is obtained. Numerical examples show that the results for uncertain data are different from the results for data without uncertainties.

Recently, a modified data hiding scheme based on pixel value differencing and improving exploiting modification directions is proposed by Shen and Huang. There are two major contributions in this scheme. One is to enhance the embedding rate and good embedding capacity and the other is an optimization problem used to solve the overflow/ underflow problem. In fact, they propose the similar brute force method to solve overflow/underflow problem in their proposed scheme. To overcome the overflow/underflow problem exactly, we will propose the close form to solve this problem in this paper. Then, an improvement data hiding scheme based on FFEMD (Formula Fully Exploiting Modification Directions) and pixel value differencing method is proposed. According to our analysis, it is not only to keep the advantages of Shen-Huang scheme but also to use the close form to solve the overflow/ underflow problem.
