Aerobic biodegradation of vapor-phase petroleum hydrocarbons was evaluated in an intact soil core from the site of an aviation gasoline release. An unsaturated zone soil core was subjected to a flow of nitrogen gas, oxygen, water vapor and vapor-phase hydrocarbons in a configuration analogous to a biofilter or an in situ bioventing or sparging situation. The vertical profiles of vapor-phase hydrocarbon concentration in the soil core were determined by gas chromatography of vapor samples. Biodegradation reduced low influent hydrocarbon concentrations by 45 to 92 percent over a 0.6-m interval of an intact soil core. The estimated total hydrocarbon concentration was reduced by 75 percent from 26 to 7 parts per million. Steady-state concentrations were input to a simple analytical model balancing advection and first-order biodegradation of hydrocarbons. First-order rate constants for the major hydrocarbon compounds were used to calibrate the model to the concentration profiles. Rate constants for the seven individual hydrocarbon compounds varied by a factor of 4. Compounds with lower molecular weights, fewer methyl groups, and no quaternary carbons tended to have higher rate constants. the fist-order rate constants were consistent with kinetic parameters determined from both microcosm and tubing cluster studies at the field site.

The rotation of a ship’s propeller can accelerate the water flow around it,which puts pressure on seabed *** pressure on the seabed can significantly trigger erosion and sedimentation of coastal *** the impact that can be caused,the ship’s propeller rotation limit needs to be determined to avoid damage to the aquatic *** research determines the threshold of ship propeller rotation based on the water flow velocity *** has been carried out at the Hydrodynamics Laboratory on several variations of propeller rotation R_(rmp)(r/min)and water depth using empirical approaches,numerical simulations,and scale model *** based on general standard criteria for erosion and sedimentation shows that a propeller with a diameter(D_(p))of 1.5 m is safe for propeller rotation at 25 r/min at all water ***,the propeller rotation of 75 r/min is safe for a distance between the propeller axis and the bottom of the water equal to D_(p).Meanwhile,rotation at 120 r/min is safe at a minimum distance of 1.5 D_(p),and 230 r/min is safe for a minimum distance of 2.0 D_(p).The propeller rotation threshold criteria are essential to determining the new under-keel clearance for environmentally friendly ship *** values vary based on seabed particle type and water depth.

After the nuclear accident in the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant（FDNPP） caused by the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami on March 11,2011,high concentrations of radiocesium(Cs and Cs) in wild mushrooms and lichens were *** clarify which fungal species are high radiocesium accumulator,the plant pathogenic fungi are investigated *** this study we examine the radiocesium accumulation in azalea leaf gall on Rhododendron indicum caused by Exobasidium japonicum collected from different areas with different aerial radiation *** June 1 and 12, 2012,leaves with leaf gall and healthy leaves of the same tree were collected totally from 23 sites belonging to Ibaraki Pref.,Tochigi *** Fukushima *** 46 samples were dried,weighed and *** concentrations of radionuclides of each samples were determined by gamma-ray spectrometry using a high purity germanium *** results reveal that the concentrations of Cs in diseased samples were double higher than healthy samples at least in 22 *** in one site healthy sample was 1.4-fold higher than diseased *** highest concentration was 3327.2 bq/kg for diseased sample and 1766.8 bq/kg for healthy sample from Date,Fukushima Pref.（ca.60 km far from FDNPP） and this highest concentration was 67-fold higher than the diseased sample of the lowest concentration determined in Tsukuba,Ibaraki Pref.（ca.168 km far from FDNPP）.This study suggests for the first time that plant pathogenic fungi which is chiefly due to hypertrophy of the host cells can increase the accumulation of radiocesium.

Background: Asia is located around equator with all year sun exposure. That is why Asians are more susceptible to aging caused by ultraviolet, or called as photoaging. Dyspigmentation and wrinkle is the most visible clinical sign of skin photoaging, making them the main target to ***: To investigate the efficacy of fractional Carbon Dioxide (CO 2 ) laser-assisted amniotic membrane stem cell conditioned medium (AMSC-CM) plus vitamin C in Asian skin *** and methods: This were a randomized comparative clinical study in photoaged patients. Experimental group received amniotic membrane stem cell conditioned medium (AMSC-CM) plus vitamin C mixture after fractional CO 2 laser, while another group received AMSC-CM after fractional CO 2 laser. The formulation was applied three times with 4 weeks interval. Fractional CO 2 laser was used to assist epidermal penetration. Wrinkle, pore, spot, and skin tone were evaluated before treatment and 4 weeks after last ***: This study included 60 women with an average age of over 50 years. Wrinkle and pore improvement after therapy on AMSC-CM plus Vitamin C mixture group were significantly better than group who only received AMSC-CM (p value < 0.05). No serious adverse effect was observed during the ***: AMSC-CM plus Vitamin C mixture application after laser fractional CO 2 is promising as rejuvenation treatment in Asian skin.

This paper examines the relationship between user pageview (PV) histories and their item-choice behavior on an e-commerce website. We focus on PV sequences, which represent time series of the number of PVs for each user-item pair. We propose a shape-restricted optimization model that accurately estimates item-choice probabilities for all possible PV sequences. This model imposes monotonicity constraints on item-choice probabilities by exploiting partial orders for PV sequences, according to the recency and frequency of a user's previous PVs. To improve the computational efficiency of our optimization model, we devise efficient algorithms for eliminating all redundant constraints according to the transitivity of the partial orders. Experimental results using real-world clickstream data demonstrate that our method achieves higher prediction performance than that of a state-of-the-art optimization model and common machine learning methods. ormaldehyde (HCHO) is a significant volatile organic compound (VOC) commonly found in indoor air, leading to serious health implications upon exposure. This study investigates the photocatalytic degradation of formaldehyde using Zn or Sn-doped TiO2 as the photocatalyst. Microwave system is used not only for synthesizing aluminum slag and glass but for doping Sn and Zn into zeolite. The results showed that P25-TiO2 nanoparticles annealed at 400°C exhibited a higher intensity of anatase peaks, while TiO2 doped with 0.5 mol% Zn and Sn and annealed at 400°C showed stronger anatase peaks in the XRD patterns. SEM images displayed a surface morphology with fine flakes and flower-like structures after annealing at 400°C for Zn and Sn-doped TiO2, respectively. Photoluminescence analysis indicated that 0.5 mol% Zn-doped TiO2 exhibited a greater red shift and lower intensity. Among the various samples, TiO2 doped with 0.5 mol% Zn demonstrated the optimal photocatalytic efficiency for formaldehyde degradation, achieving the highest degradation efficiency of 75% within 40 minutes. 0.5 mol% Zn-doped TiO2 can effectively enhance the photocatalytic performance and degradation efficiency of formaldehyde due to reducing recombination centers. The hydroxycancrinite mixed TiO2 doped with 0.5 mol% Zn exhibited an increased specific surface area of 95.5 m2 g−1. Under visible light, formaldehyde degradation reached saturation within 20 minutes, resulting in an efficiency of 20.1%. Both photodegradation and adsorption was used for formaldehyde degradation. The study provides the development of efficient materials for indoor air treatment and pollutant degradation. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

In diffraction experiments, natural gratings often create uncommon diffraction patterns compared with those resulting from manufactured gratings. This study analyzed a unique diffraction pattern obtained by a grating from a flying termite wing. A ring-like diffraction pattern was formed because of the grating morphology from a flying termite wing, which consisted of horizontal- and vertical-structured slits. The mechanism of diffraction pattern formation is also provided. The distance between slits was measured using digital microscope images and a diffraction experiment, with the results coming to an agreement. Using this grating in a diffraction experiment can help educators provide an alternative diffraction experiment that supports students in studying the topic in a more complex manner. © 2022 IOP Publishing Ltd.

The development and utilization of renewable energy sources usually requires a complicated process and often still needs the support from fossil energy sources, so that a system that integrate both energy sources must be developed. Smart grid is a modern electricity network infrastructure with the ability to integrate alternative (nuclear, geothermal) and renewable energy sources (wind, water, air, diesel, etc.) and the ability to improve reliability, efficiency and security through automatic control and use of modern communication technology. Therefore the Smart Grid implementation will provide greater benefits because the number of renewable and integrated and integrated storage units increases, efficiency increases, operational costs decrease, reliability increases and CO2 emissions decrease. The implementation of the smart grid in the micro scale in this study is for the fulfilment of household electricity needs. The solar power as a renewable energy sources will be integrated to the smart grids so that households can become independent in providing electricity and not dependent on the state electricity company and also reduce monthly electricity costs. This study will discuss the integrating energy supply on the smart home micro grid.

This paper discusses the development of urban forest areas in eastern Jakarta to encourage sustainable urban development and socio-economic environment balance. This research aims to calculate the urban forest area needs in sub-district of Makasar, Ciracas and Cakung sub-districts, East Jakarta. The method used is to calculate index of urban forest area requirement (Indeks Luas Hutan Kota / ILHK) with Marshal Edgewarth method approach. The potential land mapping using Landsat-TM satellite image data is further processed through spatial allasis using Geographic Information System (GIS). The results of this research indicate the existence of sufficient land potential and can function ecologically as urban forests, and able to be a driver for sustainable urban development.

A study to develop a convective eco-friendly fixed-bed solar dryer is presented in this article. The aim of this study was to design an efficient eco-friendly fixed bed dryer using solar collector and solar photovoltaic panel with a forced convective system. The design consists of a V-corrugated solar collector, a centrifugal fan, a solar photovoltaic module (100 WP) and a drying unit in the mini-silo model with five layers. The dryer performance test was conducted in September, October, and November 2017 in Malang, East Java, Indonesia. The observation showed that the temperature of the solar collector and the first layer of the drying unit could reach 40-70°C on a sunny day and 30-50°C in cloudy/rainy conditions. The efficiency of the daily collector varied from 20% to 50%. Based on a multiple regression analysis, it showed that some variables (solar intensity, voltage of photovoltaic panel, air speed around the blower, air collector velocity, collector relative humidity, ambient temperature and relative humidity temperature) significantly influenced the collector temperature. The result of drying simulation using red pepper showed that the design has a potential to be used as an eco-friendly fixed bed convective drying. Based on the empirical model, the drying time needed to reach 12% of moisture content (wet basis), respectively, was 5-6 days for the first tray, 8-9 days for the second tray and 9-10 days for the third tray in rainy season. © 2019 Technoscience Publications.
