This paper addresses the dynamic location management for personal communication sen'ice (PCS) networks with popular hexagonal celluar architectures. We first introduce a coordinate system for the hexagonal celluar architectures. Then, we develop an all-direction mobility model based on the coordinate system for the hexagonal cellular architecture to cope with the mobility patterns of mobile terminals (MTs). By using the proposed model, the shape and size of the local area in the dynamic location update scheme are determined optimally.
In this paper, we propose a Genetic Algorithm (GA) using symbiotic evolutionary viruses based on both the building block hypothesis and the virus theory of evolution. The proposed GA aims to control the destruction of...

The relationship between surface structure and permeability property of soy protein and mungbean protein film was carried out using atomic force microscopy (AFM). The increasing of film porosity resulting in increasing of water vapor permeability (WVP) of films. AFM images showed that the surface of soy protein film was rougher than that of mungbean protein. Films with high glycerol concentration has a rough surface because of the lower evaporation
In this paper we consider a method for finding several eigenvalues and corresponding eigenvectors of large-scale generalized eigenvalue problems. In this method, a small matrix pencil that has only the desired eigenva...

This paper addresses caching for location management in personal communication service (PCS) networks. Caching is useful to reduce the delay of locating frequently retrial calls to a mobile user. However, the cached information may be obsolete due to the mobility of mobile users, which is the reason for the degradation of system performance. We introduce an efficient caching scheme for dynamic location management to improve the location management performance. Moreover, we establish an analytical model and perform a performance evaluation to study the performance improvement of the caching scheme over the non-caching scheme. We provide a simple and direct way of caching based on dynamic location management.

We address mobility management for the internet protocol version 6 in mobile networks, namely mobile IPv6 (MIPv6). To correctly transfer IPv6 packets to a mobile node (MN), the MN has to update its binding to the home network while roaming away from its home network. Mobile IP networks suffer high binding update traffic from high rates of handoffs and long packet delivery delay from the large distance to the home network. In this paper, we introduce a dynamic and distributed domain-based mobility management protocol for MIPv6 to reduce the binding update and packet delivery delay and traffic. We describe the basic protocol operations and examine the performance improvement of our mobility management over the previous mobile IP mobility management method by using simulations. We show that the dynamic approach provides the optimal mobility solution for MIPv6 and the distributed approach can decentralize the network load.

A boundary tracking method crucial to function approximation-based image coding is proposed that solves the problems caused by duplicate tracking the common boundaries of color regions when methods conventionally applied to bilevel raster images are inappropriately used. Experimental evaluation is performed to verify its effectiveness.

In this paper, we present LiQuID, a tool for clustering lighting simulation data. Photographs are useful vehicles for both describing and making assessments of architectural lighting systems. A significant barrier to using photographs during the design process relates to the sheer volume of renderings that needs to be analyzed. Although there have been efforts to produce novel visualization systems to manage large sets of photographs, this research aims to reduce the complexity by classifying data into representative prototypes. A hypothetical case study is discussed.
