Copy-move forgeries often exploit homogeneous regions in images with large-scale attacks to either highlight or conceal target objects. These manipulations are simple to execute but challenging to notice. Forgery detection techniques like Copy-Move Forgery Detection (CMFD) cannot detect these forged documents because they are unable to identify a sufficient number of effective keypoints in homogeneous areas, leading to inaccurate and inefficient results. SURF stands for Speeded-Up Robust Features and is used in this paper along with A-KAZE and Scale-Invariant Feature Transforms. According to our experiment, A-KAZE offers superior detection performance under diverse attacks, especially when it comes to large-scale attacks targeting homogeneous regions. A-KAZE is found to be more accurate than SIFT, SURF, and A-KAZE when applied to the NB-CASIA dataset, achieving detection accuracies of 89.2%, 93.9% and 98.98%.) © 2024 IEEE.

A network with no infrastructure, multiple hops, and dispersed nodes called a MANET. Nodes can communicate directly or through intermediaries without the need for permanent infrastructure. In dynamic networks like MANETs, routing procedures enhance the overall appearance of the network by ensuring Quality of Service (QoS). A routing protocol may use a composite routing measure to determine the best path for transferring data. Optimal location-based routing for MANETs based on energy-awareness is presented in this paper. Optimal routes are selected using this fast algorithm. Particle swarm optimization (PSO) is used instead of location-aided routing to select the normal data transmission route. Last but not least, the network is tested by simulating its packet delivery ratio, its energy level, its delay, and its overhead. © 2024 IEEE.

Predicting student performance is becoming increasingly important because it plays a major role in the sustainable development of countries, which depend on effective education systems to produce a generation of leaders in various aspects of life, including science, economy, social, and military. Advances in educational technology have changed academic performance analysis, allowing for more accurate and databased predictions of student performance This research aims to optimize the performance of student learning outcome prediction by using the Random Forest Classifier method which is improved through the GridSearchCV technique. This research focuses on improving accuracy and efficiency in predicting student learning outcomes based on historical data and variables used. The data used in this study were collected from various educational sources that included student academic achievement records, demographic data, and other related variables. The Random Forest Classifier method is applied as the main prediction model. The GridSearchCV technique is used to find optimal combinations of parameters that improve the model’s performance. Model evaluation is carried out using accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score metrics to ensure the reliability of predictions. The results show that the use of GridSearchCV significantly improves the performance of the Random Forest Classifier model. The optimized model is able to achieve a higher prediction accuracy of 0.89. This improvement was also seen in other evaluation metrics, which showed an overall improvement in the model’s predictive ability to student learning outcomes.

As online social media content continues to grow, so does the spread of hate speech. Hate speech has devastating consequences unless it is detected and monitored early. Recently, deep neural network-based hate speech detection models, particularly conventional single-channel Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), have achieved remarkable performance. However, the effectiveness of the models depends on the type of language they are trained on and the training data size. We argue that the effectiveness of the models could further be enhanced if we use multi-channel CNN models even for under-resourced languages that have limited training data size. This is because the single-channel CNN might fail to consider the potential effect of multiple channels to generate better features, which is not well investigated for hate speech detection. Therefore, in this work, we explore the use of multi-channel CNN to extract better features from different channels in an end-to-end manner on top of a word2vec embedding layer. Tested on a new small-scale Amharic hate speech dataset containing 2000 annotated social media comments, the experimental results show that the proposed multi-channel CNN model outperforms the single-channel CNN models but underperform from the baseline Support Vector Machine (SVM) with an average F-score of 81.3%, 78.2%, and 92.5% respectively. The finding of the study implies that the proposed MC-CNN model can be used as an alternative solution for hate speech detection using a deep learning approach when dataset scarcity is an issue. © 2022, ICST Institute for Computer Sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications engineering.

This paper considers parameters and sampling time identification of a three interacting tanks system. A novel tailor-made model is introduced to deal with the real plant in the laboratory. Experimental data are then exploited to perform parameter identification via particle swarm optimisation (PSO) method. In addition to the system parameters, we propose to simultaneously optimize the sampling selection in the optimisation process. Even though several well known sampling time selection are established, a more precise selection is required. It is shown in this paper that a meta-heuristic optimisation method (PSO) can be an efficient procedure for this problem. Moreover, three different error measures for performing optimisation are also discussed. © 2023 IEEE.

Due to the physiological constraints and daily habits of hand movements, the wrist chattering effect (WCE) will inadvertently cause disturbance to the accuracy of fingers' pattern recognition, when healthy subjects or amputees undergoing mirror training control their fingers according to instructions. This paper proposes a method for estimating WCE angles using a disturbance observer. Based on the Denavit-Hartenberg (D-H) convention and inverse kinematics, the intervals of the WCE during finger flexion and extension are determined. The research objective is to eliminate disturbance terms containing redundant information referring to sliding mode anti-jittering methods, making subsequent machine learning models less susceptible to disturbances. © 2023 IEEE.

An Improved One-Line Evolution Formulation for the Dynamic Shoreline Planforms of Embayed Beaches

In this paper, an improved one-line evolution formulation is proposed and derived for the dynamic shoreline planforms of embayed beaches. Although embayed sandy beaches can perform several functions, serving as leisure spots and areas of coastal protection, shoreline advances and retreats occur continuously as a result of many natural forces, such as winds, waves, currents, tides, etc. The one-line evolution formulation for dynamic shoreline planforms based on the polar coordinate can be adopted to simulate high-planform-curvature shorelines and achieve better stability and simplicity in comparison with other description coordinates. While the polar coordinate and rectangular control volume are adopted to derive the one-line evolution formulation for dynamic shoreline planforms, the difference between the radial direction of the polar coordinate and the normal direction of the shoreline segment may result in inaccurate predictions of shoreline movements. In this study, a correction coefficient, which can adjust the influence of these two misaligned directions, is derived and included in the one-line evolution formulation, which is based on the polar coordinate. Thus, by considering the correction coefficient, an improved one-line evolution formulation for dynamic shoreline planforms of crenulate-shaped bays is proposed in this paper. Some numerical examples are provided to verify the merits of the proposed improved one-line evolution formulation. Moreover, the proposed numerical approach is applied to simulate the dynamic movements of the shoreline in Taitung—the southeastern part of Taiwan—and the effectiveness of the proposed formulation in solving realistic engineering applications is evidently verified. © 2024 by the authors.

Medical record data are an essential part of medicine, but the effective use of data has become difficult due to the rapid increase in data. Determining the selected features allows researchers to extract the information from medical data. Feature selection in classification provides the advantage of reduced time and storage. In addition, feature selection methods can improve performance by removing redundant or irrelevant data based on their weights. The benefits of feature selection are that it speeds up the training time, simplifies the model, makes interpretation easier, and improves generalization by reducing overfitting. Feature selection in this research uses two methods: Binary Whale Optimization (BWOA), Particle Swarm Optimization, and Hybrid with Gray Wolf Optimization (PSOGWO). Two feature selection methods were compared to determine the most optimal method for the classification process. A comparison of the two feature selection methods shows that the classification process with many attributes produces an optimal classification process, where the number of representative variables in the breast cancer dataset in the BWOA method has five features, and the PSOGWO method has 11 attributes. Meanwhile, the highest accuracy results in breast cancer classification using the BWOA average of 95.90% and PSOGWO Method average of 97.64%

We present a 4-channel 15 kS/s Voltage-to-Time Converter (VTC) analog front-end (AFE) with a $0.49\mu W$ impulse-based galvanic uplink for a peripheral nerve interface. Multiple, low-noise, high-data-rate channels are needed to sense compound action potentials and measure their conduction velocity as they propagate down a peripheral nerve. To achieve high energy efficiency for these constraints, the AFE encodes and transmits data with time-domain charge-balanced impulses through an implantable galvanic link. Each channel consists of an integrator with charge-based sampling and amplification for rapid multiplexing. A shared VTC encodes the amplitude-domain outputs of each integrator into differential time-domain impulses. Since the timing can be synchronized with stimulation, this AFE achieves instant artifact recovery after rail-to-rail stimulation events. We designed this AFE in a 180nm CMOS process, and the simulation results show an SNDR of 60dB and noise of $3.7\mu Vrms$ . Thanks to the new galvanic uplink protocol, this front-end only consumes $11.28\mu W$ including wireless data transmission for four channels.

Purpose: This viewpoint aims to present reflections on the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic scenario and the entrepreneurial potential of Brazilian students. Guidelines are proposed to support debates in the academic environment and better prepare future entrepreneurs to the labour market. Design/methodology/approach: Since this is a viewpoint article, some statements presented here are characterised by the authors' opinions. However, for a better foundation, bibliographic research related to the theme was carried out. Findings: In the authors' point of view, the COVID-19 pandemic scenario may negatively influence the decisions of Brazilian students that are characterised as potential future entrepreneurs. Educators can use the guidelines presented here to conduct debates with students in order to clarify aspects related to profile, behaviour and other issues. Originality/value: By understanding better entrepreneurial aspects in the COVID-19 pandemic scenario, Brazilian students can make better decisions.
