This paper considers parameters and sampling time identification of a three interacting tanks system. A novel tailor-made model is introduced to deal with the real plant in the laboratory. Experimental data are then exploited to perform parameter identification via particle swarm optimisation (PSO) method. In addition to the system parameters, we propose to simultaneously optimize the sampling selection in the optimisation process. Even though several well known sampling time selection are established, a more precise selection is required. It is shown in this paper that a meta-heuristic optimisation method (PSO) can be an efficient procedure for this problem. Moreover, three different error measures for performing optimisation are also discussed.

A substantial number of people are presently making use of decentralised cryptocurrencies that are built on blockchain technology. These crypto currencies have garnered a lot of interest over the course of the last few years and are currently being used by their users. Being the first use of blockchain technology, Bitcoin has been a resounding success, which drives further research and improvement in the sector concerned with blockchain technology. Bitcoin was the first usage of blockchain technology. Bitcoin, on the other hand, is susceptible to significant performance issues due to the fact that it has a high transaction latency and a limited throughput. The operations of the cryptocurrency are considerably impacted as a result of these concerns. As a result of the fact that other cryptocurrencies that rely on proof-of-work also carry over its deficiencies, there has been an increase in the number of concerns about the scalability of blockchain technology. The fact that this is the case makes scaling blockchain technology more challenging. All during the course of this investigation, an effort is made to analyse and classify the various scaling mechanisms that are now being used for blockchains. In addition to this, we are going to look at a variety of various approaches and present a list of possible solutions to the issue of scalability that the blockchain technology is now dealing.

Exoskeleton robots are currently widely used in the field of rehabilitation medicine to effectively assist patients with hand function loss in their rehabilitation training. To accommodate the physiological characteristics of the hand, particularly the deviation of the joint rotation axis, this paper proposes a hybrid-driven hand exoskeleton system with redundant compliant mechanisms and conducts motion and force analysis on it. The exoskeleton system can independently drive three fingers and drive their joints separately. To verify whether the exoskeleton system meets the rehabilitation requirements, angle verification experiments and object grasping experiments were conducted. The results showed that the maximum joint range of motion of the exoskeleton system reached 66 °, with an average joint range of motion of 55 ° , fully meeting the rehabilitation needs.

The cement industry in Indonesia, heavily relies on coal, contributing significantly to greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Simultaneously, Java Island generates over 23 million tons of municipal solid waste (MSW) annually, with limited utilization for energy recovery. This study evaluates the feasibility of substituting coal with refuse-derived fuel (RDF) from MSW in Java's cement industry, focusing on environmental, economic, and technical aspects. Scenario analyses indicate that substituting 10%, 20%, and 30% of thermal energy with RDF could divert up to 8.7 million tons of MSW from landfills annually, reducing GHG emissions by up to 2.77 million Gg CO₂-eq. These reductions align with Indonesia's environmental policies and global climate commitments under the Paris Agreement. The economic assessment demonstrates the viability of RDF, with potential annual cost savings of up to $421 million. Beyond addressing coal dependency, RDF adoption supports circular economy practices, reduces landfill reliance, and mitigates environmental pollution. However, challenges such as infrastructure gaps and regulatory barriers require attention. This study provides actionable insights to guide policy formulation, foster industry investment, and facilitate the implementation of RDF-based energy solutions. By bridging waste management and sustainable energy practices, the findings contribute to Indonesia's renewable energy goals, emphasizing the practical applications of RDF for a more sustainable future in industrial operations. © 2025 The Authors

Estimating Path Loss of High-Speed Railway for the Case of Two Ray Ground Reflection Model

In a mobile radio channel for High-Speed Railway (HSR), a single direct path from a free space propagation model is insufficient to provide an uninterrupted high-speed fault tolerance of communication networks heterogeneity. This study proposes a two ray ground reflection path loss model for HSR by contemplating both direct and ground reflected propagation path when the signal is propagating from the transmitter to the receiver. The model is theoretically suitable to overcome the interferences of far-field microcell urban environment for several kilometres distances. The proposed path loss model is validated by utilizing optimization technique of FPA (Flower Pollination Algorithm) and GBNN (Grey Box Neural Network). A comparison of objective functions and fitting plots visualization demonstrates excellent validation performances of both algorithms. However, GBNN predominates FPA in following the dynamic scenario of HSR. Accordingly, the achievement of GBNN is acceptable to put back into the proposed two ray ground path loss model and so it is becoming possible for network designers to design a power link budget in order to plan frequency path planning and small cells coverage area to fulfil the reliable services and train control operations. © 2023, The Authors. Water pollution stemming from non-metal contaminants, notably fluorine, poses a grave health risk. The prevalent organic fluoride called pentafluoropropionic acid (PFPA), necessitates efficient remediation. Employing photocatalysis, this study strives to synthesize titanium dioxide (TiO₂) via microwave assisted sol-gel technique, integrating a natural-resource-based zeolite carrier to synthesize photocatalyst/zeolite nanocomposite for the removal of fluorinated compounds from water by degradation of PFPA. Minitab-17 facilitates data analysis, with the reaction surface (RS) method optimizing parameters: 0.5 g dosage, UV irradiation, and alkaline conditions. The RS model predicts a 60.2 % removal efficiency, closely aligning with the observed 58.7 % removal. Energy efficiency is pursued through microwave hydrothermal synthesis, while secondary aluminium slag and waste glass contribute to zeolite synthesis, promoting waste reduction and recycling in harmony with circular economy principles. © 2024

A reliable transmission link for High-speed rail scenarios (HSR) requires denser networks as the unique characteristics of HSR propagation emerged. In this study, we present a performance analysis of the Received Signal Level (RSL) for HSR in the free space environment as the most favorable propagation. To achieve an excellent reception, the study of path loss from the implementation of optimization technique is utilized as the most important property in the analysis. The findings demonstrate a satisfying RSL result that was achieved from the optimized path loss values. Hence it will benefit the HSR network designers to obtain a reliable transmission link in their communication's domain. © 2022 IEEE.

In the field of alopecia areata research, various focuses including risk factors, epidemiology, molecular pathways, and treatment were constantly improving. However, to date, a bibliometric analysis summarizing the research trend is not available to date. The main objective of this study was to provide researchers with an overview of the research trend on alopecia areata in the past two decades. In Web of Science database, screening and extraction of studies related to alopecia areata has been performed. Within studies related to alopecia areata, the most cited 100 studies were appraised and the information of articles, including the citation amounts, keywords and publication types, was extracted for analyses. On average, each study in the top 100 list was cited 104.72 times. Within the top 100 list, the most focused fields were on the management of alopecia areata (34%), molecular mechanisms (28%) and epidemiological issues (23%). Approximately one third of the management-associated studies focused on Janus kinase (JAK) inhibitors (10 studies) and 5 studies focused on the efficacy of corticosteroids for alopecia areata. According to the results of the keyword analysis, JAK inhibitors had become the most mentioned keywords in the field of alopecia areata research since 2016. The top 100 most referenced papers in the field of alopecia areata mostly focused on essential aspects such as treatment options, pathogenesis, risk factors, and comorbidities. The results of the current study could be considered a potential resource for future research and patient care information. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature 2024.

The use of the MathML language made possible to improve the accessibility of mathematics for blind or low-vision persons in digital media. Synthetic speech technologies have advanced significantly using MathML, however, the speech synthesizers' standard reading style is still not suitable for mathematics. Making mathematical reading of the speech synthesizers more natural and expressive is still a challenge. The creation of models to produce the appropriate prosody in the synthesized speech of math content is therefore necessary, as shown in previous research. This article presents a proposal for a model to improve prosody in the synthesized speech of mathematical expressions based on MathML. A corpus of mathematical expressions spoken by Mathematics teachers was created to support the model's development. The Fujisaki intonation model was adopted for intonation control, accent and phrase commands have been extracted from the corpus, and some adjustments have been made to manipulate prosodic parameters in the speech of mathematical expression in correlation with the MathML tree;additionally, a pattern of pauses control is being created. © 2020 ACM.

Neurotrophic receptor tyrosine kinase 3 (NTRK3) has pleiotropic functions: it acts not only as an oncogene in breast and gastric cancers but also as a dependence receptor in tumor suppressor genes in colon cancer and neuroblastomas. However, the role of NTRK3 in upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC) is not well documented. This study investigated the association between NTRK3 expression and outcomes in UTUC patients and validated the results in tests on UTUC cell lines. A total of 118 UTUC cancer tissue samples were examined to evaluate the expression of NTRK3. Survival curves were generated using Kaplan–Meier estimates, and Cox regression models were used for investigating survival outcomes. Higher NTRK3 expression was correlated with worse progression-free survival, cancer-specific survival, and overall survival. Moreover, the results of an Ingenuity Pathway Analysis suggested that NTRK3 may interact with the PI3K-AKT-mTOR signaling pathway to promote cancer. NTRK3 downregulation in BFTC909 cells through shRNA reduced cellular migration, invasion, and activity in the AKT-mTOR pathway. Furthermore, the overexpression of NTRK3 in UM-UC-14 cells promoted AKT-mTOR pathway activity, cellular migration, and cell invasion. From these observations, we concluded that NTRK3 may contribute to aggressive behaviors in UTUC by facilitating cell migration and invasion through its interaction with the AKT-mTOR pathway and the expression of NTRK3 is a potential predictor of clinical outcomes in cases of UTUC. © 2024 The Authors.
