Light steel framing using the Cold-Formed Steel (CFS) sections is one of the Industrialized Building Systems (IBS) highly recommended for our construction industry; it not only contributes to speeding up construction time and reducing material usage but also guarantees the quality of the building. A relentless study has been conducted to achieve the appropriate configuration to ensure CFS popularity by introducing different types of joints applicable in constructing lightweight steel framing. A review of the CFS joint is provided in this study. The CFS joint is focused on the beam-column joint, apex and eaves, and truss joint. The study is mapped to establish research trends on CFS joints. Some areas show limited study and need future research on the proposed joints’ structural behavior aspects.

Effectively managing food supply chains is critical for ensuring food security and safety. Identifying and prioritizing the criteria affecting food supply chain performance is imperative to manage uncertainty and avoid undesirable consequences in Supply Chain Management (SCM). This study aims to identify and prioritize critical criteria affecting food supply chains under uncertainty. We use the Delphi method to choose the predominating criteria classified into four groups: Resilience and Flexibility, Transparency and Traceability, Communication and Collaboration, and Regulation and Standardization. The fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (FAHP) method is used next to prioritize the selected criteria based on their significance. The results show investment in research and development, transparency and traceability, risk-sharing and collaboration among stakeholders, are the top criteria for food supply chain security and safety. These findings contribute to formulating and developing effective strategies for securing food supply chains. © 2023 The Author(s)

Topological band gaps and edge modes materialized by symmetric silicon-on-insulator photonic crystal slabs in the mid-IR range

We successfully fabricated silicon-on-insulator (SOI) photonic crystal (PhC) slabs in which electromagnetic topological band gaps and edge modes were materialized for symmetric transverse-electric-like modes. Because the structure of our specimens can be regarded as symmetric about the horizontal middle plane of the PhC slab, their symmetric and antisymmetric eigenmodes were rigorously separated, so we could achieve genuine photonic band gaps for the former. We fabricated those specimens by electron beam lithography of the top Si layer of SOI wafers and successive plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition of a SiO2 capping layer. We confirmed the complete common band gap of topologically trivial and nontrivial PhCs and the topological edge modes on the boundary between them by angle-resolved reflection spectroscopy in the mid-infrared range. This is an observation of the common band gap and edge modes that materialized in symmetric PhC slabs without a membrane structure, that is, without the etching of a sacrificial layer under the PhC to increase the refractive-index contrast and the width of the common band gap.

Ternate Basin is located a small volcanic island in the archipelago of North Maluku, Indonesia. This island has very limited water resources and prone to seawater intrusion. This study aims to determine and analyze the distribution of hydrogeological interest points, determine patterns and directions of groundwater flow, and analyze hydrogeochemical quality and groundwater facies. Determination of the free aquifer zone was carried out by geoelectric measurements in 37 points, while the interpretation of confined aquifers was carried out in 17 drill log points. The quality of groundwater was analyzed in the study area, 126 samples were collected and analyzed. The piper diagram was adopted to identify groundwater facies. The determination of groundwater basin with a total recharge of 54,155 million m3/year. The saturated zone of groundwater flow reaches 1.237 million m3/day or 451.712 million m3/year. The quality of groundwater laboratory results indicates that the water from the two aquifer sources is suitable as a source of drinking water with moderate permeability and has met the quality standards. There were three groundwater facies in the study sites consisting of calcium magnesium bicarbonate (C4H4-Ca-MgO12), calcium magnesium chloride (CaCl2-MgCl2) and sodium potassium chloride (NaCL-KCL). Bicarbonate facies type in the groundwater basin indicated localized flow systems. This means the groundwater in the study site has a recharge area close to its groundwater source. Meanwhile, chloride facies type in the groundwater basin indicates a long process of flow pattern and allows the groundwater to interact with seawater or magmatic matters. These results can be used for policymakers to determine the appropriate and accurate location for groundwater exploitation for the public purposes. Determination of the location must be carried out by considering the flow, quantity, and quality of groundwater. © 2022 Science Press. All rights reserved.

Reducing dropout rate through a deep learning model for sustainable education: long-term tracking of learning outcomes of an undergraduate cohort from 2018 to 2021

In recent years, initiatives and the resulting application of precision education have been applied with increasing frequency in Taiwan; the accompanying discourse has focused on identifying potential applications for artificial intelligence and how to use learning analytics to improve teaching quality and learning outcomes. This study used the established dropout risk prediction model to improve student learning effectiveness. The model was based on the academic portfolios of past students and built with statistical learning and deep learning methods. This study used this model to predict the dropout risk of 2205 freshmen enrolled in the fall semester of 2018 (graduated in June 2022) in the field of sustainable education. A total of 176 students with a dropout risk of more than 20% were considered high-risk students. After tracking and the appropriate guidance, the dropout risk of 91 students fell from > 20% to < 20%. To discuss the results from the perspective of gender and financial disadvantages, the improvement rate of the dropout risk for male students was 10.2% better than that of female students at 2.9%. The improvement rate in dropout risk for students with disadvantageous financial situations was as high as 12.0%, surpassing the 5.9% rate among general students. Overall, the dropout rate in the second year of the 2018 freshman cohort was lower than that of the 2016 and 2017 freshman cohorts. A predictive model established by statistical learning and deep learning methods was used as a tool to promote precision education, accurately and efficiently identifying students who are having difficulty learning, as well as leading to a better understanding of AI (artificial intelligence) in smart learning for sustainable education.

The increase in free trade will also amplify the exchange of goods between countries and islands, especially in the seaports. The manual operation of the gantry-crane at the seaports has a risk due to human negligence. For that reason, automation is strongly needed in the loading and unloading of the container. Camera-based object detection is implemented to achieve this goal. In the recent years, CNN gives better accuracy in term of image classification, recognition and detection compared to the traditional method that use handcrafted features. In this paper, several advanced detection methods using CNN-based object detection, namely MobileNet, ResNet, and Faster RCNN are compared to detect and track the movement of containers. The results of the experiment show that the SSD ResNet and Faster RCNN methods are superior in terms of detection accuracy based on the Precision, Recall, Average Precision, and IoU values. MobileNet v3 excels in speed detection compared to the other methods. © 2021 IEEE.

Osteoporosis can be defined as a degenerative disease with reduced bone mass and changes in bone architecture that can lead to bone fragility and the risk of fractures. This abnormality can be indicated by the bone density which in visual can be determined using X-Ray images. However, X-Ray images are susceptible to noise, while in image analysis image contrast affects deep learning abilities. Hence, the CLAHE (Contrast Limited Adaptive Histogram Equalization) algorithm is used as a contrast enhancement technique in X-Ray images. This study aims to build a deep learning model using the CLAHE-enhanced image dataset with the ResNet-50 and ResNet-101 architectures. The model was built using two different datasets, namely the original image dataset and the CLAHE-enhanced image dataset. The result shows that the highest performance is given by the ResNet-101 model using the CLAHE-enhanced image dataset with an accuracy rate of 96%, precision of 95%, specificity of 95%, recall of 97% and an Fl-score of 96%, respectively. By using the CLAHE algorithm, the resulting image has high contrast and looks better at displaying features in the image so as to produce better model performance.

Knowledge of hand-woven motif recognition is only owned by the older generation, which has not been passed down to the younger generation. Moreover, computer technology can be used to support the recognition of traditional woven fabric motifs. The aim of this research is to conduct a literature review on hand-woven fabric motif recognition, with an emphasis on performance accuracy, techniques, and datasets utilized. This research included three distinct stages of systematic literature review (SLR): planning, execution, and reporting of findings. We found several datasets between 924,845 data and the number of classes between 3–25 class. Based on research result, we obtained several methods for hand-woven fabric motif recognition focused on performance examination. We recommended image pre-processing method, including Adaptive Filtering Denoising, Adaptive Wiener Filtering, Histogram Equalization, Gradient Pyramid (GP) Decomposition. Moreover, we suggested five feature extraction methods, including Radon Transform, Wavelet Transform, Locally Rotation Invariance Measure (LBP-ROR), Transform Invariant Low-Rank Textures (TILT) and Histogram of Oriented Gradients (HOG). For learning method, we recommend Fuzzy C-Mean (FCM), Convolutional neural network (CNN), Deep Neural Network (DNN), MobileNets, Inception-v3 and ResNet-50.

Information is instrumental in our understanding of thermodynamics. Their interplay has been studied through completely degenerate Hamiltonians whereby the informational contributions to thermodynamic transformations can be isolated. In this setting, all states other then the maximally mixed state are considered to be in informational non-equilibrium. An important yet still open question is: how to characterise the ability of quantum dynamics to maintain informational non-equilibrium? Here, the dynamical resource theory of informational non-equilibrium preservability is introduced to begin providing an answer to this question. A characterisation of the allowed operations is given for qubit channels and the n dimensional Weyl-covariant channels - a physically relevant subset of the general channels. An operational interpretation of a state discrimination game with Bell state measurements is given. Finally, an explicit link between a channels classical capacity and its ability to maintain informational non-equilibrium is made. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Correlation between meteorological condition and criteria air pollutants in a tropical city, Padang - Indonesia

Criteria Air Pollutants cause significant health problems that require special investigation. The meteorological condition becomes essential in influencing the concentration of pollutants in the atmosphere. This study aims to determine the correlation of the meteorological parameters with criteria air pollutants to reduce the worsening impact in the future, especially in tropical areas. This study measured the correlation of meteorological indicators (temperature, humidity, maximum wind speed, wind direction, rainfall, and sunshine) with air pollutants (CO, NO2, O3, PM10, and SO2). Cross-correlation analysis was used to find the best predictor lag of daily meteorological variables. Almost all pollutants are significantly correlated at lag-1 with sunlight and minimum temperature. On the other hand, wind direction at maximum speed and rainfall are significantly negatively correlated at most at lag 0 for all pollutants. It is necessary to investigate further the interaction between meteorological parameters and surface elevation variations to determine the potential for inversion at this location.
