Water quality of Maninjau Lake, West Sumatera Province based on pollution and STORET indices

Maninjau Lake can be found in West Sumatra province, specifically in the Tanjung Raya District of the Agam Regency. The Government and the nearsocieties utilize the lake catchment area aimed at agriculture, refreshment, settlement and floating net cages. Increased anthropogenic activity can affect the quality of the lake. This investigation’s goal is to assess Lake Maninjau’s water quality using the Pollution Index (PI) and the Storage and Retrieval (STORET) method. The research was showed at five sampling stations in the Maninjau Lake area from November 2021. The water quality in Maninjau Lake is classified as moderately polluted by the STORET method. Nonetheless, the Maninjau Lake’s water quality falls under different categories according to the PI. From Good condition to Moderately polluted is the range for Class I (in use as a water source for drinking). Lightly to Moderately polluted is Class II (outdoor recreation assets and facilities, fishery, livestock farming, and agricultural uses). Class III, on the other hand (meant for breeding freshwater fish, raising livestock, and watering crops) and Class IV irrigation systems are categorized as Good condition and lightly polluted, respectively.

Disposal of Lapindo mud which carries nutrients and other dissolved organic matter into the Porong estuary, can cause the death of aquatic organisms due to high contamination and disturbance of aquatic ecosystems. The presence of phytoplankton can explain the current condition of the Porong Estuary. The purpose of this study was to report the water quality and plankton composition of the Porong estuary. The method used in this study is a descriptive survey method. Determination of sampling points using the appropriate sampling method at three stations. The research variables observed included water quality parameters such as temperature, total dissolved solids (TDS), total suspended solids (TSS), total organic matter (TOM), pH, dissolved oxygen (DO), carbon dioxide (CO2), biological oxygen demand (BOD), nitrate, ammonia, orthophosphate, salinity and observations of phytoplankton in water bodies. The water quality values at stations 1, 2, and 3 respectively for TSS, pH, DO, BOD, TOM, nitrate, ammonia, orthophosphate shows a less than optimal value. Water conditions based on plankton abundance 24,678 cells/mL, 44,904 cells/mL, 18,312 cells/mL were eutrophic. The average of water quality parameters classified as less than optimal. Relatively, station 1 is the station with the best conditions between stations 2 and 3.

Water quality in rivers is deteriorating in urban and rural areas due to natural and anthropogenic factors. Understanding how changes and factors affect river water quality is crucial for managing water quality in river basins. This review focuses on analyzing key factors affecting water quality, and the temporal and spatial variations of water quality in rivers flowing in rural and urban areas. Natural processes such as weathering of rocks, evapotranspiration, atmospheric deposition, climate change, and natural disasters cause changes in the quality of river water. Anthropogenic factors could stem from industrial effluents, domestic activities, and agricultural activities such as the application of fertilizers, manures, pesticides, animal husbandry activities, irrigation practices, deforestation, and aquaculture. The seasonal variations in river water quality are discussed, and land use or cover could affect water quality parameters in a negative or positive way. In addition to traditional contaminants such as biodegradable organic matter, heavy metals, and pathogens, emerging and persistent pollutants such as organochlorine pesticides (OCPs), polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs), and phamaceutic active compounds (PhACs) has been found in many rivers, which could pose a threat to human and animal health. The comparison of key factors and parameters in urban and rural areas is also clarified, which provides authorities and policymakers with a deep understanding and supports decision-making in sustainable water management. © 2023 The Authors

Understanding the dynamical behavior of complex systems from their underlying network architectures is a long-standing question in complexity theory. Therefore, many metrics have been devised to extract network features like motifs, centrality, and modularity measures. It has previously been proposed that network symmetries are of particular importance since they are expected to underly the synchronization of a system’s units, which is ubiquitously observed in nervous system activity patterns. However, perfectly symmetrical structures are difficult to assess in noisy measurements of biological systems, like neuronal connectomes. Here, we devise a principled method to infer network symmetries from combined connectome and neuronal activity data. Using nervous system-wide population activity recordings of the *** backward locomotor system, we infer structures in the connectome called fibration symmetries, which can explain which group of neurons synchronize their activity. Our analysis suggests functional building blocks in the animal’s motor periphery, providing new testable hypotheses on how descending interneuron circuits communicate with the motor periphery to control behavior. Our approach opens a new door to exploring the structure-function relations in other complex systems, like the nervous systems of larger animals. © 2024, CC BY.

Air pollution refers to the presence of hazardous substances in the air that has adverse effects on health, causing millions premature deaths annually. Ground-based stations can provide accurate measurements for monitoring air pollution. However, the spatial coverage of air pollution measurements is limited by the number of measurement instruments available in specific hotspot areas. Satellite remote sensing can reduce spatial uncertainty;however, the measurement results are mostly limited to the upper atmosphere with high measurement sensitivity. To better represent surface conditions, this study aims to model the Air Quality Index for pollutants CO, NO₂, SO₂, PM_2.5, and PM₁₀ in the global region using remotely sensed data. To support this study, 425 data points from air pollution stations distributed globally are combined using Machine Learning Linear Regression methods. Furthermore, socioeconomic and environmental data are combined with air pollution satellite to form Multiple models. According to the results of this study, the Multiple Models are more accurate than the single models, showing that the addition of socioeconomic and environmental data can enhance accuracy. The results of this study are expected to help regions without air pollution monitoring stations to estimate the air quality index using satellite data, in turn, preventing air pollution disasters. © 2023 The Author(s)

UT transform is the core step of unscented kalman filter (UKF) algorithm. The Sigma sampling type of UT transform has great influence on the computational complexity, state estimation accuracy and computational efficiency of UKF-based terrain matching algorithm. In order to obtain the high precision terrain matching method which is suitable for engineering application, the Comparative analysis of three kinds of UKF-based terrain matching algorithms was carried out in this paper. Firstly, the UKF-based underwater terrain matching model was given. Secondly, the principle and the performance characteristics of scaled sampling method, Cubature sampling method, Gauss- Hermite sampling methods were analyzed. The filtering precision factors of symmetric unscented Kalman filter(SUKF), Cubature unscented Kalman filter(CKF), Gauss-Hermite Kalman Filter(GHKF) was studied from the algorithm principle, Thirdly, The computer simulation was performed using univariate nonstationary growth model(UNGM) to test the previous analysis conclusions. Finally underwater terrain matching simulation model was established, and the comparative analysis of matching acuraccy was carried out based on SITAN, SUKF, CKF and GHKF, the matching effect of underwater terrain matching algorithm is obtained. The simulation results show that the UKF algorithm based on symmetric sampling strategy has better filtering precision and less computational complexity which is suitable for the filtering core of underwater terrain matching algorithm. © 2019 Association for Computing Machinery.

Digital twin for subsea pipeline corrosion monitoring location based on ILI-MFL pipeline operator forum and potentiodynamic test

The limitation of subsea pipeline access coupled with limited personnel mobilization due to the COVID-19 pandemic has become a challenge in pipeline inspections. With these limitations, this study’s Inspection Data Management System (IDMS) was carried out by processing data from In Line Inspection-Magnetic Flux Leakage (ILI-MFL) to be developed into digital twin data initiation by simulating anomalies that occur using a potentiodynamic test. The analysis was carried out using the Pipeline Operator Forum (POF) diagram to map the corrosion morphology of the pipeline. Sampling is carried out using pipeline material API 5L-X42 which will form a certain corrosion morphology that represents pinhole, pitting, and general corrosion which is adjusted to the anomalies feature and metal loss depth from pipe tally in the form of length, width, and depth percent of the anomaly to the nominal wall thickness. Potentiodynamic testing was carried out using corrtest instrument 5.0, resulting in tafel polarization to define Resistance of polarization using a stern geary approach. The results are then analyzed to determine the material in resisting damage which shows corrosion rate (for general) and pitting rate (for pitting and pinhole) which is <0.02 mmpy for outstanding, 0.02-0.1 mmpy for excellent, 0.1-0.5 mmpy for good and 0.5-1 mmpy for fair. This digital twin method combined ILI MFL and Potentiodynamic testing to result in the type of anomalies, metal loss depth, dimension of anomalies from the results of the POF diagram, and determination of corrosion rate and pitting rate of API 5L-X42 material in the subsea pipeline.

REPEAT ANALYSIS program AS A QUALITY ASSURANCE SYSTEM FOR RADIOLOGY MANAGEMENT: CAUSAL REPEAT AND AN OVERVIEW

OBJECTIVEThis paper aims to describe the image retakes program over several decades, and identify the causes of issues due to rejection rates. MATERIALS & METHODSThis study is a literature review using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) method. Articles were searched from Google Scholar (3140) and Scopus (18) using keywords " Reject" or " Repeat" or " Retakes" and " Analysis" and " in" and " Diagnostic" and " Imaging". The article range was expanded to describe the profile of repeat analysis from the use of film-screen to digital transformation systems. Based on the established criteria, 20 articles were extracted and analyzed. RESULTSFrom the literature, it was found that repeat rates above 5% were still found in some examination categories, with chest radiography contributing the highest rejection rate, reaching 51.67%, with the biggest contributing factor being positioning (84.8%). There are interesting findings related to this program, where subjective factors in determining the classification of rejection causes still exist. One study mentioned that AI can predict image rejection accuracy with a sensitivity of 93%. Therefore, the use of AI can be very helpful in classifying rejection causes, making data available for more efficient and easier radiology management. CONCLUSIONRepeat program is part of image quality management. The justification for rejection decisions still poses a challenge related to personnel's subjective factors and determining the causes of rejection/repeat must also be done to obtain concrete data related to radiography performance.

Shear wave velocity (Vs30) is one of the local condition parameters often used to determine buildings’ vulnerability to potential damage if an earthquake occurs. This parameter is essential for planning and evaluation in infrastructure development. Tadulako university, which is repairing the building and the layout of the campus area after the September 28, 2018 earthquake, needs to consider the parameters of the shear wave. Measurements of the Vs30 value have been carried out at 20 points spread across Tadulako university using the microtremor method. The value of Vs30 is then estimated to determine the classification of the surface soil. The results obtained indicate that the variation in value is not too significant; it is between 424 m/s – 530 m/s. This value is included in the C class site and has very dense soil and soft rock soil profile classification. The highest value is in the southwest part, and the lowest value is in the northeast part.

Addressing the UN SDGs in sustainability reports: An analysis of Latin American oil and gas companies

This article aims to establish an overview of the sustainable practices developed by the major oil and gas enterprises in Latin America and analyse how these practices are related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 7, 9, 11 and 12. The methodological strategy used was the content analysis of the sustainability reports published by companies in the sector. Considering the ten oil and gas companies with the highest revenue in Latin America, 7 of them published sustainability reports in 2020 (base 2019), and these reports were analysed via content analysis technique. The findings showed that 244 sustainable practices were reported in sustainability reports by these seven companies. These practices were summarised by twenty different keywords (the practice can be represented by more than one keyword) and related with the targets of SDGs 7, 9, 11 and 12. It was found that few practices were related with the following targets: (a) greater access of small-sized companies, especially from developing countries, to financial services (target 9.3), (b) encouragement of companies to use sustainable practices and add sustainability information in their reporting cycle (target 12.6) and (c) the rationalisation of inefficient fossil-fuel subsidies (target 12.c). However, one company stands out amongst its competitors, having practices that, on average, were related with a higher number of targets of SDGs 7, 9, 11 and 12. This research has an exploratory character. The information reported here is of great value in guiding CSR actions of companies in the oil and gas sector and future research in the area to discuss how such companies can contribute to targets 9.3, 12.6, and 12.c. © 2022
