Non-adherence to medications is a critical concern since nearly half of patients with chronic illnesses do not follow their prescribed medication regimens, leading to increased mortality, costs, and preventable human distress. Amongst stage 0-3 breast cancer survivors, adherence to long-term adjuvant endocrine therapy (i.e., Tamoxifen and aromatase inhibitors) is associated with a significant increase in recurrence-free survival. This work aims to develop multi-scale models of medication adherence to understand the significance of different factors influencing adherence across varying time frames. We introduce a computational framework guided by Social Cognitive Theory for multi-scale (daily and weekly) modeling of longitudinal medication adherence. Our models employ both dynamic medication-taking patterns in the recent past (dynamic factors) as well as less frequently changing factors (static factors) for adherence prediction. Additionally, we assess the significance of various factors in influencing adherence behavior across different time scales. Our models outperform traditional machine learning counterparts in both daily and weekly tasks in terms of both accuracy and specificity. Daily models achieved an accuracy of 87.25% (Precision – 92.04%, Recall – 93.15%, Specificity – 77.50%), and weekly models, an accuracy of 76.04% (Precision – 75.83%, Recall – 85.80%, Specificity – 72.30%). Notably, dynamic past medication-taking patterns prove most valuable for predicting daily adherence, while a combination of dynamic and static factors is significant for macro-level weekly adherence patterns. While our models exhibit strong predictive performance, they are constrained by potential cohort-specific biases, reliance on self-reported adherence data, and a limited understanding of the context around non-adherence. Surface and groundwater are important resources for human life and health. Land use changes and mining activities, however, have the potential to compromise the safety of these resources. This study aims to investigate the land cover conditions before and during mining activities and assess the impact on forests, surface, and groundwater resources in the Asutifi North District, Ghana. Landsat data of 30 m resolution was used to assess the land cover change from 2000 to 2020. A cross-sectional analysis of data between April to June 2004 to 2019 was used to assess water quality. The overall accuracy of the land cover classification ranged between (91.33–99.41)% and (78.01–85.95)% respectively for ground-truth validation and validation using the MODIS annual 500 m land cover dataset. Forest cover decreased by 11.47% while agriculture doubled from 12.13% to 24.06% between 2000 and 2020. The introduction of mining is responsible for major land cover changes including the conversion of forest to agricultural land through shifting cultivation. For a general assessment of water quality, the percentage of pH, TB, TDS, NH₃, Mg and SO₄ measurements outside the EPA admissible limits for drinking water is 16.67%, 83.33%, 0.69%, 0%, 10.42%, and 16.67% respectively. Turbidity is the most impacted water quality parameter affected by land cover changes while NH₃ is the least impacted parameter. The incidences of water quality outside EPA/WHO limits for drinking water at all monitoring points call for education and collective action to safeguard water sources from further deterioration. It is necessary mining companies adhere to environmental protection guidelines. © 2022

Wave energy has attracted significant attention due to its wide distribution and pollution-free characteristics. Resonance caisson wave energy converter (RC-WEC) technology utilizes resonance principles to effectively enhance power generation efficiency. This study utilizes diffraction-radiation theory and the boundary element method to investigate the frequency domain hydrodynamic characteristics of RC-WEC. We evaluate operational performance using capture width spectra under varying caisson opening degree and wave incidence angles. The results indicate that the resonance caisson has a significant gain in energy conversion efficiency for the independent float. RC-WEC significantly improves hydrodynamic parameters(e.g., heave response amplitude) of the float. Smaller caisson opening degrees increase spectral peaks while narrowing bandwidth. Furthermore, we also observe an asymmetric capture width distribution across wave incidence angles ranging from 0 to 180°, with maximum values at 135°. In a comprehensive evaluation, RC-WEC improves the capture width by 78–94 % relative to the independent float, demonstrating that resonance caisson is effective in actively inducing resonance in the flow field to optimize the energy conversion capability of WEC. This paradigm shift from passive wave absorption to active resonance development emphasises an efficient way to improve the performance metrics of float-based WEC systems.

Animal feed production soared due to the increasing demand for fresh meat and fish. The high cost of animal feed production causes animal feed producers to look for more economical and environmentally friendly alternatives. Microalgae have the potential to add nutrients to animal feed and aquaculture feed because they contain high-value biomolecules. Bioactive compounds containing microalgae such as protein, carbohydrates, polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA), vitamins, and other compounds have been shown to improve feed efficiency and the quality of animal products. The contribution of microalgae to meet nutritional needs in animal feed/aquaculture is present in this review. The metabolism of microalgae produced during photosynthetic activity depends on natural conditions such as the location of cultivation, the possibility of contaminants in the culture, and their physiological response to biotic and abiotic factors, such as the availability of light intensity, temperature, pH, nutrients, and growth phase. The quality of microalgae biomass certainly affects the quality of animal feed. From various studies that have been carried out, several parameters can affect the efficiency and quality of animal products, including the amount of microalgae biomass added to the feed, the age of the animal, and the duration of feeding the animal.

The air layer between the interior finishes and the structure is used as piping and wiring space. In many cases, ceilings and dry-type double floors are commonly constructed in Japan. However, the effect of ceilings and dry-type double floors on the heavy-weight floor impact sound insulation performance has not yet quantitatively studied. Therefore, in this paper, the same ceiling and floor structures were constructed for concrete and CLT (Cross Laminated Timber) buildings, and the heavyweight floor impact sound was investigated. As results, it was confirmed that the reduction amount of the heavy-weight floor impact sound by the ceiling tended to be smaller in CLT building than in concrete building. However, the trends were similar. Due to the dry-type double floor structure, the heavy-weight floor impact sound level was increased in concrete building and decreased in CLT building at 63 Hz in the octave band center frequency band. Therefore, it can be said that the dry-type double floor structure can be used to improve the heavy-weight floor impact sound insulation performance in the CLT building. © INTER-NOISE 2021 .All right reserved.

Deceleration performance and stopping distance of hybrid composite brake lining pads of basalt and clam shell

Brake lining is one of the components of the braking system on a vehicle that plays an important role for the safety of the driver. Recently, the development of brake lining materials has attracted the attention of many researchers. At first many brake pads were made of asbestos as the main material, but this brake lining material has begun to be abandoned because it has a negative impact on health and the environment. This paper presents the results of research on the development of a hybrid composite as a brake lining material. This hybrid composite is composed of the main ingredients of basalt and green clam shell waste, as well as a small amount of alumina with phenolic resin as a binder. Hybrid composite brake lining material is made through a sintering process with an emphasis of 2 tons for 30 minutes at a constant temperature of 150°C. Hybrid composite brake pads made 3 variations of weight fraction were tested on a motorcycle to see the performance of deceleration and braking distance. Also tested brake lining with asbestos material as a comparison. The lowest deceleration performance was asbestos brake lining at 6.79 m/s2, while the highest deceleration was HC4 brake lining (35% basalt-15% clam shell) of 11.51 m/s2. While the shortest braking distance is HC4 brake pads (35% basalt-15% shell) of 3.02 meters, while the longest braking distance of asbestos is 15.18 meters. The increase in the percentage of basalt content and the decrease in the percentage of clam shell content indicate a tendency to increase the magnitude of deceleration, and a tendency to decrease the braking distance for each vehicle's initial speed.

Biodiesel is an alternative fuel produced by chemical reaction between vegetable oil or animal fat with alcohol and catalyst. The preliminary treatment in extraction of biodiesel feedstock is an important process to obtain maximum yield of crude oil. This study aims to find optimal preliminary treatment on extraction of Kemiri Sunan seed in order to produce crude oil with maximum yield and quality. The research investigated the effects of screw press machine rotation and duration of steaming process. Three levels of duration of steaming used were 30, 60 and 90 minutes. Observations of crude oil yield, moisture content, free fatty acid content, kinematic viscosity, density and color were done. The result suggested that the rotation of screw press machine affected the crude oil yield. The duration of steaming process affected the oil yield, free fatty acid content, kinematic viscosity, density and color. The best oil yield result of 70.3% was obtained from the combination of heating duration of 60' and screw rotation of 25 RPM. © 2019 Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a widespread pathogen known to cause infections in various hosts, particularly threatening immunocompromised patients. Although determining antibiotic sensitivity is crucial for appropriate patient care, existing diagnostic methods remain time-consuming, which can delay targeted therapy. In this study, we propose a novel, interpretable, and cost-effective framework that combines ultraviolet-visible-near-infrared (UV–Vis-NIR) spectroscopy with subgroup discovery and a one-vs-all multilayer perceptron (MLP) model to predict antibiotic sensitivity without the need for traditional culture methods. Unlike prior approaches that depend on expensive instruments or black-box algorithms, our method leverages spectral pattern interpretability to identify key wavelength features associated with distinct resistance categories. Testing on clinical isolates of P. aeruginosa , the model achieved optimal prediction accuracy within 10 min of culture time, significantly reducing the typical 48–72 h turnaround time of conventional culture-based susceptibility testing. This work demonstrates a promising direction for rapid, low-cost, and clinically actionable antimicrobial susceptibility testing that balances performance with explainability.

Setting time of geopolymer binder based on Umeanyar slate stone powder

This study aims to determine the effect of precursor and activator proportion on the setting time of the geopolymer binder. The precursor used was Umeanyar slate stone powder containing SiO2 (49%), Al2O3 (11%), CaO (11.2%). While the activator used was a mixture of 14 M sodium hydroxide (NaOH) solution and sodium silicate (Na2SiO3). The proportion of precursor: activator (P/A) in the geopolymer binder were 70%: 30%; 75%: 25%; 80%: 20% and those of Na2SiO3 : NaOH (SS/SH) were 1:1; 1.5:1; 2:1, by weight. The setting time of the binders was tested according to the SNI 2049: 2015. Measurement of setting time using vicat test equipment and based on normal consistency. The measurement of the setting time was carried out every 15 minutes until the initial bonding time was reached. The initial and final setting time result of the geopolymer binder decreased to 75 minutes and 100 minutes when P/A, as well as, SS/SH increased.

Assessment of Performance Wonogiri Dam in Service of Water Needs Due to The Impact of Erosion and Sedimentation

Wonogiri Dam administratively located in Wonogiri Regency exactly in the upper reaches of Bengawan Solo Watershed. Wonogiri Dam is a multipurpose dam which is used as irrigation, raw water, hydroelectric power plant and flood control. The high impact of erosion and sedimentation became main issue in Wonogiri Dam caused by changes in land use at upstream area. Within 25 years the capacity of Wonogiri Reservoir was reduced by 65 million m3 from 440 million m3 in 1980 to 375 m3 in 2005 as recorded. One of parameter that used for assessment of the dam performance depends on erosion and sedimentation. This study aims to determine assessment of performance Wonogiri Dam in service of water needs due to erosion and sedimentation. Erosion and sedimentation analysis can be determined by using USLE (Universal Soil Loss Equation) and SRD (Sedimen Delivery Ratio) methods. As the result showed that erosion in Wonogiri Watershed has high erosion potential which gain 3,2 million m3/year. The Keduang Sub Watershed shows the highest level of erosion potential, which is between 1.175 million m3/year. The sedimentation rate result in Wonogiri Dam considered relatively high with rate value 1,948,000 m3/year. There for it is necessary that a comprehensive sedimentation management system is needed in the Wonogiri Watershed from both side, in technical and non technical aspect, such as reforestation or dredging activities. Based on the results of the analysis of the impact of erosion and sedimentation, it can be concluded that the performance evaluation of the Wonogiri Dam is include in the sufficient category because many activities have been carried out to restore the reservoir function to its original condition.
