Nickel oxide (NiO)-based supercapacitor electrodes have attracted great attention due to the ultra-high theoretical specific capacitance. NiO, as a typical pseudocapacitive, is considered to be the most promising candidate as an electrode material for supercapacitors. Herein, the NiO nanostructures directly grown on the Ni foam have been successfully designed and synthesized via the hydrothermal method. The optimal Ni foam/NiO electrode exhibits a high specific capacity of 93.2 C/g at a current density of 5 mV/s. The enhanced electrochemical performance of Ni foam/NiO electrodes is due to the unique morphological architecture which facilitates open access and promotes electrolyte ion/electron transport.

Modeling the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in East Java using negative binomial regression based on least square spline estimator

The East Java Province has experienced a significant surge in number of confirmed cases of COVID-19. This study endeavors to investigate the potential correlation between weather conditions and the incidence of number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in East Java. To achieve this, a nonparametric regression model, specifically, the Negative Binomial Regression (NBR) model based on the least squares spline estimator, was utilized. The outcomes of the study indicate that the Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE) of nonparametic regression model is 0.30. Meanwhile, the MAPE for the parametric regression model is 0.34. The results show that a nonparametric regression model approach is better than parametric regression model approach. The study establishes that the truncated spline estimator based NBR model represents the best fit, with an MLCV value of -256.71. The findings of the study suggest that a temperature less than 21.75°C is associated with a decrease of 13.28 number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 per each 1°C increase, while a temperature between 21.75°C and 25.78°C is linked to an increase of 6.85 number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 per each 1°C increase. In contrast, a temperature greater than 25.78°C is associated with a decrease of 139.42 number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 per each 1°C increase. Similarly, a wind speed less than 5.57 m/s is related to a decrease of 12.99 number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 per each 1 m/s increase, whereas a wind speed between 5.57 m/s and 8.99 m/s is associated with a decrease of 10.29 number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 per each 1 m/s increase. Furthermore, a wind speed greater than 8.99 m/s is linked to a decrease of 19.16 number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 per each 1 m/s increase. The study provides evidence that higher temperatures and wind speeds result in a slower rise in the incidence of the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19. The research explores the use of cocoa pod shell (CPS) in rural areas and accessible to the cocoa farmer, applying VOSviewer software. The results show that the production of ethanol or biochar with CPS is not feasible, the first due to its low sugar content and the second, due to the requirement of processes with high temperatures for the extraction of different chemical compounds (i.e activated carbon). On the other hand, obtaining pellets represents a viable energy potential, since the calorific value is competitive with other biomass; Also, through anaerobic digestion under the ideal conditions, it can generate 55% in biogas of the solid matter used. Additionally, the ashes produced in direct combustion or pellets rep-resent an excellent catalyst, which can be used in transesterification, for the generation of biodiesel, used with other residual oils, giving a plus in the efficient use of resources.

Probing of a question between two methodologies of the multiplicative model of Time Series and Fuzzy Relation is challenging to answer, without exploring each of both theories. This paper aims to discern any discrepancies or similarities in them, since each has detailed items that could lead to practical advantages to proceed on forecasting or decision making. Pseudo coding is a chance to explore theories and to surface those practical advantages. The finding states that the multiplicative model of time series factually has components that could have dependencies one to another, and the fuzzy relations help to map each point along their processes to determine how much dependency contained in the system that could conclude of a decision making.

The harvesting is one of the most expensive stages during Colombian coffee production since the selectivity of ripe fruits (from the trees) is carried manually nowadays. However, the scarcity of workforce has become a new challenge for developing technologies that can be used in situations that traditional mechanized harvesters cannot be implemented. The classification of coffee fruits through the ripeness could help create selective harvesting methods from the different engineering fields (robotic, artificial vision, vibratory systems, etc.). This study describes a methodology to characterize the coffee fruit ripeness (Coffea arabica var. Castillo) using color maps obtained from digital image processing and colorimetry. Ninety-two samples were measured, and for each sample, a digital image was processed to extract the most representative color with an algorithm (RGB space), and parallel to this, the chromaticity was measured with a colorimeter (CIELab space). Both color spaces were related through linear transformations computed from the data. Results show that the ripeness classification is well defined in both color spaces; however, RGB space was divided into four ripening since the ripeness timeline was linearly represented. Through the transformations, the image data were contrasted with those measured with the colorimeter, which demonstrated that it could be converted in a colorimeter under certain specific conditions.

Recently, air pollution has become more serious and started to have a dramatic effect on the health of humans in many large cities. Generally, outdoor personal protection,such as commercial masks, cannot effectively prevent the inhalation of many pollutants. Particulate matter(PM) pollutants are a particularly serious threat to human health. Here we introduce a new efficient air filtration mat that can be used for outdoor protection. The new efficient air filter’s nanocomposite materials were successfully fabricated from poly(ε-caprolactone)/polyethylene oxide(PCL/PEO) using an electrospinning technique and solvent vapor annealing(SVA).SVA treatment endows the wrinkled fiber surface and enhances the PM2.5 capture capacity of protective masks. This nanowrinkled air filtration mat can effectively filter PM2.5 with a removal efficiency of 80.01% under seriously polluted conditions(PM2.5 particle concentration above 225 mg m-3).Our field test in Qinhuangdao indicated that the air filtration mat had a high PM2.5 removal efficiency under thick *** to commercial masks, the fabricated SVA-treated PCL/PEO air filter mat demonstrated a simpler and ecofriendly preparation process with excellent degradation characteristics, showing wide potential applications with a high filtration efficiency.

Climate change potential impacts are evaluated through the changes in the local and regional climate. However, Global and Regional Climate simulated outputs do not often capture these changes well, hampering their direct applicability. Impact studies using coarse resolution data require bias-correction of climate variables, a process that minimizes the discrepancy between observed and simulated climate variables. This study assessed climate projections in the Volta Basin using an ensemble of 4 Regional Climate Models under the Representative Concentration Pathways-RCPs 4.5 and 8.5 scenarios in the CORDEX-Africa datasets. These datasets were bias-corrected using the Climate Model data for hydrologic modeling tool (CMhyd) and 27-years of Climate Forecast System Reanalysis data. The performances of the ensemble bias-corrected precipitation ranged from 97-99%, 93-99%, 70-485mm, and -9-5% for R², NSE, RMSE, and PBIAS respectively. TMAX bias-correction performances ranged from 65-99%, 27-99%, 0-4°C and -2-7% for R², NSE, RMSE and PBIAS respectively. For TMIN, the performances ranged from 91–99%, 91–99%, 0-1°C and 0-1% for R², NSE, RMSE and PBIAS respectively. The annual projected change in precipitation under RCP4.5 and 8.5 indicated a decrease in precipitation for the near (the 2020s), the mid-century (2050s), and the end far (2080s) with a relative increase from late November to January, a period currently part of dry season period in the Volta Basin. This suggests that the basin could expect a potential shift in the rainy season. The 12-month standard precipitation index suggests more frequent and longer drought periods in the future. Changes in annual mean monthly maximum temperature revealed an increase under all scenarios and throughout the century with an intensified increase by the end of the century under the higher CO₂ concentration scenario (RCP 8.5). Continuous exposure to an area with a sound above the threshold level is one of the triggers for noise pollution in public spaces. Public spaces are spaces where people of all ages gather for leisure activities, recreation, etc. The purpose of this study was to find the average dBA value of noise, community perceptions regarding the comfort of sound in coastal public spaces, and the relationship between the dBA value and the existing sound comfort standards. The focus of this research is to contribute to a public space that is free from noise pollution. The study was conducted on the coast of Manado, precisely in the Boboca monument area, using mixed methods through the formula LAeq 10 minutes and Leq daylight to get the standard value of noise. The results found noise numbers in the range 77.4 – 80.2 dBA, this value has exceeded the required standard of 50 dBA, and the results of the perception are also supportive, which is dominant in public perception. It means that coastal public spaces in the Boboca monument area have been exposed to noise pollution.

Garbage problem is often very complex in urban areas. The handling pattern of collecting, transporting and disposing that has been applied up to this day has not yet produced an appropriate solution. This is evident from the data of statistic centre institution in 2015 that 76.31% of the existing waste in the community has not been sorted, while 10.28% sorted to be used and 13.41% sorted to be discarded, showing the community amount of unsorted garbage large enough to necessitate managerial efforts at the waste sources. In designing a systematic and structured waste management system, the generations, compositions, and characteristics of the waste are indispensable. Therefore, a research is conducted on these three dimensions to the non-domestic waste in Semarang City, which involves commercial waste (from the markets, restaurants, and hotels), institutional waste (from the offices and schools). From the research result the average of 0,24kgs/person/day in weight unit of the City's non-domestical waste generation is derived. The waste composition is dominated by organic waste of around 61.95%, while the rest percentage is inorganic. The management policy is directed with the application of Management Information System model based on Information Technology because of the system's abilities to effectuate the waste management. © 2018 The Authors, published by EDP Sciences.

The problem that is often faced in a road construction is a soil subgrade (soft soil). If the subgrade has a low bearing capacity, causing the soil to decrease greatly, so the road construction will quickly be damaged. Method to overcome the problem is bio stabilization with bacteria utilization. The purpose of this research is to know the bearing capacity improvement of soft soil as subgrade layer with bacteria solution of bacillus subtilis. Tests include soil physical and mechanical properties, compaction parameters and CBR tests. This test is based on ASTM for each test. Variations in addition of bacterial solution were 2%, 4%, 6%, 8% and 10% of dry soil weight with 7 days curing time. The results showed that the maximum value of CBR of soft soil was found at 39% on 6% bacterial solution. Increased CBR value from 2.8% to 39% or 13 times than untreated soil. This shows the use of bacterial concentration solution on soft soil significantly increases the bearing capacity. © 2018 The Authors, published by EDP Sciences.
