Reservoir operation is strongly influenced by water balance conditions in the catchment area. The amount of inflow, reservoir capacity, and water requirements are major factors in creating reservoir operation rules. The purpose of this research is to obtain the extent of the reliability of parallel reservoir operation with simultaneous execution by utilizing water transfer from wet to dry watersheds. Reservoir operation rules were derived by utilizing the storage capacity of the two reservoirs with two spillways and two separate water demands in the downstream parts. The various parameters applied for the operation rules are expected to optimize the operation of the reservoirs.

Non-synonymous single nucleotide polymorphisms (nsSNPs), also known as missense SNPs, can seriously affect an individual’s vulnerability to numerous diseases, including cancer. In this study, we conducted a comprehensive in-silico analysis to examine the structural and functional implications of nsSNPs within the Folate Hydrolase 1(FOLH1) gene, which encodes the Prostate-Specific Membrane Antigen (PSMA). A total of 504 SNPs were retrieved, and after filtering, 15 pathogenic nsSNPs were identified using five different in-silico tools. Three of these SNPs—R255H (rs375565491), R255C (rs201789325), and G168E (rs267602926)—were consistently predicted to be pathogenic across all in-silico tools. MutPred2 was used to predict the structural and functional consequences of the identified mutations. The analysis revealed multiple alterations in the PSMA protein, including changes in helical conformations, glycosylation patterns, transmembrane properties, and solvent accessibility. Furthermore, I-Mutant 2.0 analysis demonstrated a decrease in protein stability for most nsSNPs, except for rs267602926 (G168E), which was predicted to increase stability. Conservation analysis using ConSurf revealed varying degrees of amino acid conservation, with R255H and R255C identified as highly conserved residues, indicating their potential functional and structural significance. Additionally, post-translational modification (PTM) analysis indicated that while phosphorylation and methylation sites remained unchanged, specific glycosylation sites were lost in two pathogenic mutant variants (R255H and R255C), potentially affecting PSMA function and adversely impacting prostate cancer. Our findings highlight the importance of in silico studies to investigate the structural and functional impacts of FOLH1 nsSNPs on the PSMA protein. Such in silico studies can deepen our understanding of the roles of nsSNPs in prostate cancer onset, progression, and drug resistance.

Determining water price for public water supply from Jatigede Reservoir

The 'user pays' principle is one of the principles of Integrated Water Resource Management. Water price should be set optimally, high enough to complement subsidies, but within the ability of users to pay for the water. This paper discusses the optimization of the water price for public water supply by considering the dominant parameters related to operational costs, government subsidies, and the ability to pay. The study location is the Jatigede reservoir, located in the Province of West Java with an effective reservoir volume of 877 million m3, and supplying public water supply at a rate of 3.5 m3/s. To investigate the feedback loop of the complex system of water price optimization, the system dynamics approach was applied. The study results showed that the water tariff for raw water reaches a numerical balance and can meet the annual operation and maintenance costs by up to 100%. The results of the analysis of the system dynamics model showed that the optimal price for raw water supply is lower than the price of raw water in other river basins.

Curugmuncar II micro hydro power (MHP) located in Petungkriyono sub district is one of three MHPs installed in Pekalongan district. This study aims to analyze the MHP operation environmental impact. The study used qualitative method, with interviews, observations, and material testing. The data used are primary and secondary data. This research was conducted in Curugmuncar Village, Petungkriyono Subdistrict, Pekalongan Regency, Indonesia. MHP has power capacity of 100 KW with power usage of 50 KW. MHP used by 155 users with load capacity 2 A 220 volt AC. The community more used of lights as the houses and street lighting. The MHP operation had several environmental factors such as: Sociology, technically feasible, hydrology, physical and chemical water quality, ergonomics, economically feasible, irrigation, clean water supply, government policy, and others. The supporting factors sustainability of MHP were sociology, irrigation, ergonomics, clean water supply, physical and chemical water quality, hydrology, and government policy. The inhibiting factors of MHP operation were technically feasible, economically feasible, and government policy. The results showed that the MHP environment requires a professional management system to achieve the MHP sustainability. © 2018 The Authors, published by EDP Sciences.

River Bian in Merauke Regency has been utilized by local people in Papua (the Marind) who live along the river for fulfilling their daily needs, such as shower, cloth and dish washing, and even defecation, waste disposal, including domestic waste, as well as for ceremonial activities related to the locally traditional culture. Change in land use for other necessities and domestic activities of the local people have mounted pressures on the status of the River Bian, thus decreasing the quality of the river. This study had objectives to find out and to analyze river water quality and water quality status of the River Bian, and its compliance with water quality standards for ideal use. The study determined sample point by a purposive sampling method, taking the water samples with a grab method. The analysis of the water quality was performed by standard and pollution index methods. The study revealed that the water quality of River Bian, concerning BOD, at the station 3 had exceeded quality threshold. COD parameter for all stations had exceeded the quality threshold for class III. At three stations, there was a decreasing value due to increasing PI, as found at the stations 1, 2, and 3. In other words, River Bian had been lightly contaminated. © 2018 The Authors, published by EDP Sciences.

Tidal flooding that occurs on the northern coast of Semarang City is caused by high rainfall, sea water level rise, and is exacerbated by land subsidence. Handling of tidal flooding is recommended with a polder system. Tidal flood management is made of several alternative retention ponds located in the Banger region so that water can flow in the new retention pond at the pump into the river so that the water goes to the sea. The purpose of this study is to formulate a correlation between catchment area, retention pool and pump capacity. Rainfall-runoff as well as hydraulic parameters were computed and simulate using SWMM software Version 5.1. Based on the analysis results, it clearly shows that, the flood discharge of 24 m3/s can be overcome by integrated pond structure with pump configuration. Alternative 1 retention pool 1 with a storage volume of 15,000 m3, Alternative 2 combined ponds 1 and 2 with a storage volume of 11,400 m3, Alternative 3 combined 3 ponds 1, 2 and 3, storage volume of 14,200 m3, alternative 4, is a combination of the three retention ponds above, with a storage volume of 64,300 m3. The water level in the pond is maintained not to overflow when pumping is carried out with the addition of the pool area, it will further reduce the capacity of the pump that is turned on with certain configurations on the pump operation schedule.

Impacts of climate change have received extensive attention, especially for the semi-arid regions. Raknamo reservoir is located at Kupang Regency, a semi-arid area with significant differences in rainy duration (3–4 months) and dry seasons (8–9 months). This preliminary study aimed to identify the recent factors that caused the delays in initial filling of Raknamo reservoir, which may be affected by climate change. There are three rainfall stations observed surrounding Raknamo watershed, namely Camplong, Naibonat and Raknamo. Direct comparisons were made of rainfall data for 33 years (1986-2019) daily. The climatology station Lasiana was used for climatological data with a data length of 33 years (1986-2019). This research used a qualitative approach, runoff was analyzed using regression analysis. The results showed that factors such as temperature (T), potential evapotranspiration (ETo), and rainfall (R) affected the availability of initial filling in the Raknamo reservoir. The amount of rainfall intensity that is not achieved in one period to fill the reservoir has resulted in the Raknamo reservoir utilization not being optimized.

In this work, we consider multigoal-oriented error estimation for stationary fluid-structure interaction. The problem is formulated within a variational-monolithic setting using arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian coordinates. Employing the dual-weighted residual method for goal-oriented a posteriori error estimation, adjoint sensitivities are required. For multigoal-oriented error estimation, a combined functional is formulated such that several quantities of interest are controlled simultaneously. As localization technique for mesh refinement we employ a partition-of-unity. Our algorithmic developments are substantiated with several numerical tests such as an elastic lid-driven cavity with two goal functionals, an elastic bar in a chamber with two goal functionals, and the FSI-1 benchmark with three goal *** Codes 65N30, 65N50, 74F10 © 2021, CC BY-NC-ND.

Biomass from palm oil is a renewable energy source that can be utilized and has very promising availability. Biomass energy is a renewable and sustainable energy that can replace conventional (fossil) fuels. The main objective of the experiment in this article is to analyze the combustion temperature, emissions, and efficiency of palm oil biomass fuel to use and applied in rural/remote areas. The palm oil biomass used in this study is palm kernel shells, empty fruit bunches, oil palm midrib, and oil palm fibers. The experiments in the research carried out in a fluidized-bed combustion chamber designed explicitly with capacities of up to 5 kg of biomass. The results of operations on fluidized-bed when the valve is open 100%, 75%, and 50% with overall palm oil biomass show a high combustion temperature. The highest combustion temperature was recorded in the TC test for 100% open valves with 3 kg biomass of 943°C. While the minimum combustion temperature obtained on TF2 at 50% open valve with 1 kg biomass of 619°C, overall combustion temperatures in this experiment showed high results. The maximum emission for O2 is 20.4% which is obtained at 50% open valve, while for CO2 the maximum emission is produced when 100% open valve is 19.9% with a biomass weight of 1 kg and 3 kg, respectively. The yield for maximum combustion efficiency when using 1 kg of biomass recorded at 50% open valve was 94.9%. While the minimum efficiency of 87.7% is obtained when the valve is 100% open with biomass of 2 kg. As the biomass fuel used in fluidized-bed increases, the combustion temperature also increases significantly.

Kemiri Sunan (Reutalis trisperma (Blanco) Airy Shaw) is a potential plant to be developed as biodiesel feedstock. The advantage of Kemiri Sunan seeds when compared to other biodiesel raw materials is their high oil content. This plant is also very good for land conservation. Due the increasingly demand for biodiesel, research and new methods to increase its biodiesel production continue to be undertaken. The weakness of conventional biodiesel manufacturing process is in the mixing process in which mechanical stirring and heating in the trans-esterification process require more energy and a longer time. A higher and stronger mixing process is required to increase the contact area between the two phases of the mixed substance to produce the emulsion. Ultrasonic is a tool that can be useful for a liquid mixing process that tends to be separated. Ultrasonic waves can cause mixing intensity at the micro level and increase mass transfer, so the reaction can be performed at a much faster rate. This study is to figure out the effect of ultrasonic irradiation on the transesterification process of biodiesel from Kemiri Sunan Oil. © 2018 The Authors, published by EDP Sciences.
