Controlling orbital magnetism of band electron systems via bath engineering

Orbital magnetism arises due to the coherent cyclotron motion of band electrons. System-bath entanglement is expected to disrupt this coherent electronic motion and quench orbital magnetism. Here, we show that a suitably tailored bath can lead to an enhancement of the orbital diamagnetic susceptibility of a multiband electron system and can even convert an orbital paramagnetic response into a diamagnetic one as the system-bath coupling is increased. We also demonstrate how a van Hove singularity in the bath density of states can be exploited to generate a giant enhancement of the orbital magnetic susceptibility. Our work opens doors to the possibility of controlling the orbital magnetic response of band electron systems through bath engineering.

In indoor vertical farming systems, managing dynamic and complex environments poses significant challenges. Traditional control strategies often fall short in adapting to rapid changes in critical parameters such as nutrient levels, climate conditions, and plant health indicators. To address these challenges, this paper presents a novel approach for optimizing indoor vertical farming using Deep Deterministic Policy Gradient (DDPG), a reinforcement learning algorithm well-suited for environments with continuous action spaces. Our study focused on the control and monitoring of key parameters, including nutrient levels (pH and EC), climate conditions (temperature, humidity, light, and CO2 levels), and plant health indicators (biomass accumulation and leaf size structure). By defining a comprehensive state and action space, we simulated an indoor farming environment and trained the DDPG model to maximize crop yield and health. © 2024 IEEE.

Flood prediction with time series data mining: Systematic review

The global community is continuously working to minimize the impact of disasters through various actions, including earth surveying. For example, flood-prone areas must be identified appropriately, predicted, understood, and socialized. In that case, it will increase the risk of disaster impacts on the affected population in the form of death, property damage, and socio-economic losses. The data mining approach has had a significant influence on research related to flood prediction in recent years, namely its impact on researchers related to forecast, classification, and clustering. Floods can also be predicted using a time series approach used to predict the future, a type of data-driven prediction that has been developed and widely applied and can be applied to predictions related to hydrology. A review to identify, evaluate, and interpret all relevant research results carried out so far for flood prediction and flood prediction with a data mining approach. The review method used in this study is PRISMA as a tool and guide for evaluating systematic reviews and meta-analyses. Some things discussed are types of data, types of floods and their parameters, types of approaches and combinations, and evaluation methods used in related studies. This study found that although the univariate time series approach dominates in related studies, multivariate time series Analysis (53 papers or 48.62%) can also be used to strengthen flood predictions in the long term or short term, t;this is an opportunity for further research. Some research opportunities to be carried out are combining the team series approach and the Estimation or Classification approaches. In contrast, the optimization approach is 11% of the total study. This is the next research opportunity. The type of flood chosen is also an opportunity for research to find a research gap;the less response on a kind of flood, the easier the study will be. This paper presents a microservices-driven digital twin (DT) model for precision farming in controlled indoor environments, addressing the critical need for scalable, modular, and real-time agricultural systems. As the global demand for food rises, integrating Industry 4.0, IoT, edge, and cloud computing technologies becomes essential to improve farming process. The proposed model enhances scalability, modularity, and real-time decision making through decentralized data processing. A master-agent containerized computing architecture was employed to reduce latency and optimize environmental control. Moreover, the integration of a Kalman filter improved the accuracy of key environmental parameter adjustments. This research explored how this model can be scaled for larger farming operations and addresses challenges in system interoperability and implementation. Future work will expand this research to diverse agricultural settings, real-world validation, and ensuring data privacy and security. This study provides a framework for advancing precision farming through digital twin technology. © 2024 IEEE.

Currently, hypervisor technology is an emerging topic of research. Virtualization technology, especially hypervisors and virtual machines (VM), has been widely studied but is still little applied in the cyber-physical systems (CPS) field. A hypervisor, or VM monitor (VMM), is a software program used to run multiple VMs on a single physical machine through space and time partitioning in a real-time operating system. This paper discusses the hypervisor technology to prevent software interference and to minimize size, weight, and power-cost (SWaP-C) in cyber physical systems, as well as, the application of hypervisor technology in the aerospace, automotive and control fields. By partitioning, a hypervisor can increase software safety because application programs with different criticality levels do not affect each other in failure when run in partitioned VMs. © 2024 IEEE.

The advancement of spatial audio technology has been driven by the human capacity for spatial auditory, enabling immersive auditory experiences that replicate real-life sound environments. Understanding how the brain encodes spatial auditory processes has emerged as a growing area of research. Electroencephalography (EEG), a non-invasive modality with high temporal resolution, offers an ideal means to study brain responses to moving sound stimuli. This study aims to compare quantitative EEG methods derived from direct EEG recordings, focusing on EEG temporal features such as Power Spectral Density (PSD), as well as EEG source localization using eLORETA. Two types of audio stimuli, stereo audio and spatial audio, delivered through headsets attached directly to both ears, were investigated. When exposed to the spatial audio stimulus, there was a notable increase in the mean PSD within the Theta, Alpha, and Beta frequency bands in the auditory cortex (channel T3, T4, T5, and T6). The most significant increase was observed in the Beta frequency band of 145.601 μV2/Hz in T4, indicating heightened focus experienced by the subjects compared to the stereo audio stimulus. Furthermore, EEG source localization using eLORETA revealed distinct activation in the frontal area during the second experiment involving the spatial audio stimulus. Specifically, there was a significant increase (p>0.05) in current density within the frontal regions of the brain, including Brodmann Area (BA) 6 and 9, which are associated with selective attention and spatial orientation. These findings highlight the practicality of the employed methods and their potential to shed light on brain activity during spatial auditory processes. © 2023 IEEE.

The Choi state is an indispensable tool in the study and analysis of quantum channels. Considering a channel in terms of its associated Choi state can greatly simplify problems. It also offers an alternative approach to the characterization of a channel, with properties of the Choi state providing novel insight into a channel's behavior. The rank of a Choi state, termed the Choi rank, has proven to be an important characterizing property, and here, its significance is further elucidated through an operational interpretation. The Choi rank is shown to provide a universal bound on how successfully two agents, Alice and Bob, can perform an entanglement-assisted exclusion task. The task can be considered an extension of superdense coding, where Bob can only output information about Alice's encoded bit string with certainty. Conclusive state exclusion, in place of state discrimination, is therefore considered at the culmination of the superdense coding protocol. In order to prove this result, a necessary condition for conclusive k-state exclusion of a set of states is presented in order to achieve this result, and the notions of weak and strong exclusion are introduced.

This study examined the effect of Zn2+ ion substitution on ZnxMn(1-x) Fe2O4 nanoparticles (x = 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8) towards signal Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR). The co-precipitation method synthesised the nanoparticles at a temperature of 90°C. The X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) results showed a polycrystalline structure with a crystallite size varied from 19.05 nm to 19.77 nm. In addition, as the Zn element increased in the ZnxMn(1-x)Fe2O4 nanoparticles, the degree of crystallinity increased by 21.72%, respectively. The optical properties of the nanoparticles ZnxMn(1-x) Fe2O4 indicate absorbance at wavelengths of 330.36–331.74 nm. The absorbance level increased as the Zn element decreased, resulting a direct optical gap of 3.47 eV and an indirect optical gap of 3.23 eV. The Attenuated Total Reflection (ATR) curve in the SPR biosensor indicated a shift in the reflective angle of the Prism/Au/Air configuration, which is 47.78° on Prisma/Au/nanoparticle of Zn0.8Mn0.2Fe2O4/air by 50.75°, and the prism/Au/nanoparticle of Zn0.2Mn0.8Fe2 O4/air by 51.04°. The substitution of Zn ions in the compound Zn x Mn(1-x)Fe2O4 affects the resulting ATR curve. The shift in the SPR angle is caused by changes in the refractive index in each layer which is influenced by the concentration of each material which has an impact on the absorbance ability and photon reflectance. This research has the potential to continue with the testing of dielectric and magnetic properties, as well as special testing for biological analytes compatible with ZnxMn(1-x)Fe2O4 nanoparticles. © 2023 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.

This study aims to analyze the self-cleaning and antibacterial performance of fabrics coated with oil palm boiler ash (OPBA) nanocomposite, TiO₂ and chitosan. The methods used to synthesize OPBA nanoparticles are ball mill and coprecipitation methods. Meanwhile, the sol-gel method was used to prepare TiO₂ and nanocomposites. Fabric is coated through the dip-coating method. Nanocomposites as coatings showed significant results. It can be seen from the results of the fibre morphology before coating, which shows the typical parallel grooves possessed by cotton fabric fibres. Meanwhile, the surface of the coated fabric looks rougher and shows the presence of nanocomposites. The self-cleaning and antibacterial performance of the fabric that has been coated with nanocomposites shows promising results. Coated fabrics exhibit antibacterial performance. The self-cleaning activity on the fabric stained with coffee stains showed that the coated fabric was effective in its self-cleaning activity. © 2022 The Author(s)
