Objectives: The 12-item Self-Compassion Scale–Short Form (SCS–SF) is a widely used instrument for the assessment of self-compassion. To date, there have been few examinations of this instrument’s psychometric properties, particularly across nations and languages. Therefore, we used data from the Body Image in Nature Survey (BINS) to assess measurement invariance of the SCS–SF across nations, languages, gender identities, and age groups. Methods: Participants (N = 56,968) from 65 nations completed the SCS–SF in 40 languages. Using these data, we tested various hypothesised models of the SCS–SF in the total sample and, using multi-group confirmatory factor analysis, tested for invariance of the optimal model across national groups, languages, gender identities, and age groups. Results: In the total dataset, we found that an 11-item, 2-factor model (i.e., SCS-11) provided best fit to the data, with the two factors tapping distinct constructs of compassionate and uncompassionate self-responding. The SCS-11 was found to be partially scalar invariant across national groups and languages, and fully scalar invariant across gender identities and age groups. There was wide variation in latent means for the two factors, particularly across national groups and languages. Further analyses showed negligible associations between the two factors and sociodemographic variables, including marital status, financial security, and urbanicity. Conclusions: Our results suggest that it may be possible to derive a stable 2-factor model of the SCS–SF for use in cross-cultural research, but also highlight the likelihood of cross-national and cross-linguistic variations in the way that self-compassion is understood. © The Author(s) 2025.

After serving as the head of Iijima Special Research Laboratories he became Professor at the Tokyo Institute of Technology in 1986. He because Professor Emeritus of that institute in 1986. He became Professor at Tokyo Engineering University and Professor Emeritus there in 1991. In 1991 he became Professor at the Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology and was appointed Vice President of the institute in 1992. He served successively as editor examiner secretary of general affairs inspector counsel committee-head of pattern recognition and specialized studies head of Tokyo chapter and vice president of this institute. In 1991 he became Honorary Member. He received the Paper Award from the Institute four times and the Literary Works Award once. He received the Achievement Award and the Distinguished Service Award in 1976 and 1989 respectively. He received the Purple Ribbon Medal from the Emperor in 1989.

Theoretical studies on Iijima's ''Theory of Pattern Recognition,'' which is known as a method of multiple similarity, have shown clearly that there are situations when it is difficult to determine the viewpoint and visual field, important parameters to introduce topological aspects into the pattern space, observing a figure itself. To cope with this problem, this paper proposes transforming the observed image from a figure f(r) to a second-order differential image rho(r), called ''figure source.'' The aim is to reconstruct the theory in such a way as to enable the application of similarity evaluation methods as in the conventional case, without compromising the current theory, and all the necessary proofs are given. In this paper, the figure source equation as well as rules representing its properties are developed, and several related physical quantities are redefined.

The effect of dynamic soil-structure interaction is really important to be examined. Moreover if the structure is nuclear power structure or multi-storey structure. In solving the dynamic problem caused by dynamic mass on the soil-structure and interaction, it will use wavelet transform. This study aims to examine the dynamic soil-structure interaction using ITM-FEM approach. In this study, soil is considered as a semi-infinite media in z-direction with unbounded domain in x-direction. The characteristic of material is considered as an isotropic, homogenous, and linear elastic material, and the material damping seems not dependent on the frequency. The dynamic soil-structure interaction using ITM-FEM approach is conducted by counting dynamic stiffness matrix { D^FE }, space truss, hexahedron solid coupling element between FEM and ITM.

Research on human mental disorders has started exploring the relationship between human facial expression recognition (FER) and symptoms of mental disorders because cases in FER are similar to symptoms in psychiatric disease. With the tremendous success of machine learning and deep learning, various models and architecture of these techniques are being leveraged to achieve better performance. The purpose of this work is to undertake a review of the most recent work on automatic facial emotion recognition (FER) using deep learning. We emphasize these contributions from the deep learning architecture and facial databases and the researchers’ progress by comparing the recommended technique with the findings produced. The study found that facial expression recognition based on cognitive internet of things (CIoT) in psychiatry disease did not yet exist, so it became a big opportunity to develop this research in the future. It can be concluded that this research can assist scholars by examining previous works and providing insights to improve this field and can be used as recommendations for psychiatric disease.

In this research, the transient characteristics of a new type fuel metering system for aircraft turbofan engines using two types of pumps, a gear pump and a centrifugal pump, were studied by modelling and simulation. This new fuel metering system is capable of hydraulically unloading the operating state of each pump by the pump mode switching mechanism within the permissible range of the pump rotation speed and the fuel flow rate and it is possible to reduce the fuel temperature rise due to the pressure loss in the circuit in the operation region of the entire fuel system. In addition to this, by using a small centrifugal pump that can realize high discharge flow rate, it is possible to reduce weight compared to the conventional fuel system. However, when the pump mode is switched, unexpected fluctuation in the fuel flow rate can occur when a large change in the inlet pressure of the system occurs, the pressure control unit cannot follow the change, and the transient phenomenon cannot be suppressed. At this time, the pressure waveform generated at the time of changing the pump mode includes a high frequency component such that the pressure control unit, which plays a role of keeping the metering valve differential pressure constant, cannot follow up. Therefore, in this paper, we focused on the frequency of the pressure change waveform when the pump mode was changed and studied the model of the fuel system inlet pressure in the gear pump mode. Based on that model, we propose a method to reduce the frequency characteristics of the pressure change occurring at the time of pump mode change.

We show here that computer game players can build high-quality crystal structures. Introduction of a new feature into the computer game Foldit allows players to build and real-space refine structures into electron density maps. To assess the usefulness of this feature, we held a crystallographic model-building competition between trained crystallographers, undergraduate students, Foldit players and automatic model-building algorithms. After removal of disordered residues, a team of Foldit players achieved the most accurate structure. Analysing the target protein of the competition, YPL067C, uncovered a new family of histidine triad proteins apparently involved in the prevention of amyloid toxicity. From this study, we conclude that crystallographers can utilize crowdsourcing to interpret electron density information and to produce structure solutions of the highest quality.

Background: Although evidence indicates that extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) is effective in treating calcifying shoulder tendinitis, incomplete resorption and dissatisfactory results are still reported in many cases. Data mining techniques have been applied in health care in the past decade to predict outcomes of disease and treatment. Purpose: To identify the ideal data mining technique for the prediction of ESWT-induced shoulder calcification resorption and the most accurate algorithm for use in the clinical setting. Study Design: Case-control study. Methods: Patients with painful calcified shoulder tendinitis treated by ESWT were enrolled. Seven clinical factors related to shoulder calcification were adopted as the input attributes: sex, age, side affected, symptom duration, pretreatment Constant-Murley score, and calcification size and type. The 5 data mining techniques assessed were multilayer perceptron (neural network), naïve Bayes, sequential minimal optimization, logistic regression, and the J48 decision tree classifier. Results: A total of 248 patients with calcified shoulder tendinitis were enrolled in this study. Shorter symptom duration yielded the highest gain ratio (0.374), followed by smaller calcification size (0.336) and calcification type (0.253). With the J48 decision tree method, the accuracy of 3 input attributes was 89.5% by 10-fold cross-validation, indicating satisfactory accuracy. A treatment algorithm using the J48 decision tree indicated that a symptom duration of ≤10 months was the most positive indicator of calcification resorption, followed by a calcification size of ≤10.82 mm. Conclusion: The J48 decision tree method demonstrated the highest precision and accuracy in the prediction of shoulder calcification resorption by ESWT. A symptom duration of ≤10 months or calcification size of ≤10.82 mm represented the clinical scenarios most likely to show resorption after ESWT. © The Author(s) 2024.

Modeling the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in East Java using negative binomial regression based on least square spline estimator

The East Java Province has experienced a significant surge in number of confirmed cases of COVID-19. This study endeavors to investigate the potential correlation between weather conditions and the incidence of number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in East Java. To achieve this, a nonparametric regression model, specifically, the Negative Binomial Regression (NBR) model based on the least squares spline estimator, was utilized. The outcomes of the study indicate that the Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE) of nonparametic regression model is 0.30. Meanwhile, the MAPE for the parametric regression model is 0.34. The results show that a nonparametric regression model approach is better than parametric regression model approach. The study establishes that the truncated spline estimator based NBR model represents the best fit, with an MLCV value of -256.71. The findings of the study suggest that a temperature less than 21.75°C is associated with a decrease of 13.28 number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 per each 1°C increase, while a temperature between 21.75°C and 25.78°C is linked to an increase of 6.85 number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 per each 1°C increase. In contrast, a temperature greater than 25.78°C is associated with a decrease of 139.42 number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 per each 1°C increase. Similarly, a wind speed less than 5.57 m/s is related to a decrease of 12.99 number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 per each 1 m/s increase, whereas a wind speed between 5.57 m/s and 8.99 m/s is associated with a decrease of 10.29 number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 per each 1 m/s increase. Furthermore, a wind speed greater than 8.99 m/s is linked to a decrease of 19.16 number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 per each 1 m/s increase. The study provides evidence that higher temperatures and wind speeds result in a slower rise in the incidence of the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19. To develop a semi-supervised learning model, it is necessary to have a little labeled data and a lot of unlabeled data. The data labeling process requires great effort and must involve experts. In the process of labeling text data requires a linguist to do the labeling. In this study using text data in the form of marketplace user reviews, in general the data is still dirty and data preprocessing needs to be done. The data preprocessing techniques applied are normalization, tokenization, stopword removal, and stemming. After the data goes through the preprocessing stage, labeling is carried out by involving more than one linguist. The results of the labeling that have been carried out by linguists will be carried out a consistency test process by applying the Cohen Kappa method. The data that has been labeled by 2 linguists is 820 data, after the consistency test is obtained the delivery aspect with a kappa value of 1, the service aspect with a kappa value of 0.960, the quality aspect with a kappa value of 0.981, the size aspect with a kappa 0.997, the color aspect with a kappa value of 1. Based on the results of the consistency test from the 2 experts for the 5 aspects, consistent results were obtained. So that the data that has been labeled can be used as training data to carry out the process of developing a semi-supervised learning model. A series of labeling processes up to consistency testing will be the main basis for developing a semi-supervised learning model.

In 1988 he joined Kyushu Electric Power Co. and is working in the Research Division. B.E. M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from Kyoto University Japan in 1969 1971 and 1980 respectively. He joined Kumamoto University in 1971 and he has been a Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science since 1989. During the period of June 1985 through September 1986 he was at Clarkson University and was involved with power system harmonics research. His current interests include intelligent control of electric power systems using fuzzy logic control scheme and neural network measurement and real time control of photovoltaic systems and harmonic analysis in distribution systems. He is a senior member of IEEE SICE of Japan and Japan Solar Energy Society. B.E. M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from Kyoto University in 1981 1983 and 1991 respectively. He joined Kyoto University in 1985. Since 1993 he has been at Kumamoto University and currently is an Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. His current interests include stabilizing control of electric power system and applications of the Superconducting Magnetic Energy Storage (SMES) to electric power systems. He is a member of IEEE and Institute of Systems Control and Information Engineers of Japan. B.S.E.E. degree in 1972 his M.S.E.E. degree in 1977 and Ph.D. degree in 1980 all from Iowa State University. From 1972 to 1976 he worked in the Operational Analysis Department Commonwealth Edison Company Chicago Illinois. Since 1979 he has been at Clarkson University Potsdam N.Y. where he is a Professor of Electrical Engineering. This paper presents a new switching control scheme for static var compensator (SVC) using fuzzy logic control rules to enhance the overall stability of electric power systems. In addition, the coordination with power system stabilizers (PSS) is also considered to achieve a wider stable region. An SVC is set on one of the busbars in the transmission system, where the real power flow signal is utilized at the location of the SVC to determine the firing angle of the thyristor switch. The switching control scheme is simple so as not to require heavy computation on the microcomputer based switching controller. The PSSs are also set on the generators in the study system. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed fuzzy logic switching control scheme for the SVC. The coordination between SVC and PSS is also effective to enlarge the stable region.
