Zero trust in cybersecurity: managing critical challenges for effective implementation

Purpose: This study investigates the challenges of adopting Zero Trust (ZT) as a security strategy in contemporary organizations, where traditional security measures are insufficient. This paper aims to provide a robust and objective framework for managing ZT implementation through an integrated approach. Design/methodology/approach: An expert panel of 29 professionals contributed to identifying and weighting key management criteria for ZT adoption. This study used fuzzy Delphi to achieve consensus and the CRITIC (Criteria Importance through Intercriteria Correlation) method to ensure objectivity in determining criteria importance. Findings: The results reveal four critical dimensions – culture, operations and processes, compliance, and investments – along with 33 specific criteria essential for successful ZT implementation. This study highlights the potential for reversal of rank under dynamic decision-making conditions, emphasizing the necessity for continuous refinement and adaptation. Practical implications: The insights derived from this research offer valuable guidance for security leaders, professionals and consultants in navigating the complexities of ZT adoption. By addressing managerial challenges and providing a structured approach, this study contributes to a smoother transition from traditional cybersecurity models to ZT frameworks. Originality/value: This research offers a novel contribution to ZT management by applying an innovative, management-centered methodology to systematically identify and prioritize the critical challenges involved. It provides a structured framework that enables security managers to prioritize critical areas – cultural, financial, operational and compliance – essential for the successful implementation of ZT. © 2025, Emerald Publishing Limited.

Willingness to participate (WP) in community-based management depends on various factors such as a sense of community, perceptions, beliefs, and demographic characteristics. This study first evaluates the WP of locals (n = 100) in water management in the Ba River Basin – Highlands of Vietnam, where ethnic minority groups are living and working in the agricultural sector. The multivariable linear regression model is applied to explain WP through the factors including the sense of community (SC), dependance on river water (DW), perceptions of current water resource management (PW), level of income (IN), gender (GE), education levels (ED), and place of residence (PR). The results showed that the final regression model explains 67.9% of the variation in WP levels (R2 = 0.679, p 0.05) in this model. Sense of community and perceptions greatly influence community participation. To boost willingness, periodic training and campaigns are needed. Additionally, improving legal frameworks can encourage greater community involvement in water management programs. © 2025 The Authors.

The industry is rapidly transitioning from the 4.0 era to the 5.0 era, prompting renewed interest among scholars in scheduling problems. They allow operations to process and assemble various components simultaneously. This bibliometric analysis provides a comprehensive understanding of the diverse research perspectives on the potential challenges of integrated scheduling within the framework. We identified 357 Scopus articles and analysed co-occurrence keyword (CNK) by VOSViewer tools and Global Citation Score (GCS) by Scopus tools. The research data obtained from 1993 to 2023 mainly in the subject areas of Engineering, Computer Science, Maths, and others. CNK identified six cluster keywords, and nine most cited articles based on normalised GCS. These results contribute to our understanding of the development of scheduling algorithms, shifting from an emphasis on manufacturing transfers to contemporary demand-centric research directions. Furthermore, this research provides a valuable perspective for policymakers, plant personnel, and manufacturing managers to make informed decisions.

Autonomous driving technology relies heavily on sensor data for environment perception. Heterogeneous sensors such as lidar, radar, and camera have their own strengths and limitations. Therefore, relying on any single sensor would restrict the effectiveness of autonomous driving technology. However, integrating data from such heterogeneous sensors poses challenges due to differences in their representations. This article outlines a deep learning network aimed at designing modality-agnostic multi-modal fusion architecture. We study sensor data from different modalities and learn fine-grained representations using modality-specific feature encoders independently. Then, a multimodal attention-based network (MMA-Net) is proposed to fuse the data from heterogeneous modalities. The proposed MMA-Net fuses multi-modal sensor data by jointly exploiting the inter-modality and intra-modality relationships among camera, lidar, and radar sensors. The effectiveness of the proposed multi-modal fusion architecture is demonstrated using 2-D object detection metrics through extensive experiments on a dataset generated using the CARLA simulator.

The purpose of this research is to guide the implementation of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 37301:2021 on Compliance management System (CMS) effectively through compliance contract management to improve the product quality of an Indonesian manufacture-company for achieving its consumer/customer's satisfaction. Compliance to contractual requirements to achieve customer satisfaction should not only rely per se on the contract requirements as stated in the contract, but also consider customer's concerns on product quality. It has become the finding of this academic research that by integrating the Kano Model into contractual compliance management in the Company, the Company's product quality improved and attracted its customer. Such improvement is resulted from the ability of the Company in its CMS strategy by interpreting the provisions of the contract within the perspective of Kano's satisfaction quadrants. © 2024 IEEE.

For example, remote health care adoption was accelerated immensely to deal with the challenged health system. We are about to see similar technological innovations ramp up the hard hit economies through many different sectors. As always said, challenges create opportunities. Our field of Engineering and technology management is growing. IEEE technology and Engineering management Society (TEMS) just finished the first virtual conference: TEMSCON 2020. As a part of it we held an editors’ panel. Holding the conference on line enabled many editors of the leading journals in the field attend the event.

In order to implement Circular Economy (CE) smoothly, it is necessary to understand what kind of support the manufacturing industry needs on the road to CE, and to find out the technical indicators that can improve CE performance. This use the Multiple Attribute Decision Making (MADM) method to fill in the gaps in this research field. Through the distribution of questionnaires, experts are invited to provide data with reference to their professional experience. After data integration, the Fuzzy Delphi Method (FDM) method is used to screen out important driving factors and 9R indicators. Then, Grey Relational Analysis (GRA) is used to get important and key driving factors. According to the FDM results of this study, the top 9R indicators are Reduce, Reuse, and Rethink. As for the GRA results, the top-ranking driving factors are the support of the parent company (headquarters), the promotion of the company’s reputation and energy saving. © 2023, Tamkang University. Content and language integrated learning that has burgeoned in European areas is regarded as an effective method of English teaching and foreign culture learning. With the increasing frequent cross-language and cultural communication, this method has attracted more and more attention around the world. Based on the research content and the origin characteristics and value of language learning methods, this study presents the basic operation mode of such a teaching approach, analyzes the challenges of its application in Chinese regions, and puts forward countermeasures to solve the problems. This research believes that the key to implementing integrated learning of teaching content and language in the Chinese language area is the need to effectively improve learners' English communicative competence in the field of professional knowledge, which aims to achieve a state of free input and output between the native language and English. It is found that the teaching model of content and language integrated learning is still a relatively new concept for Chinese language-speaking areas. Therefore, this study put forwards that the development of teacher pre-service training, teaching material design, and teaching curriculum design challenges are still the main factors restricting the development of this teaching model. This research suggests that it is an effective way for subject teachers to actively interact with students through curriculum design, create opportunities for them to think and express independently, and further guide learners to explore their ability of self-cognition and knowledge digestion and absorption. The teaching approach of integrating content and language learning is of great significance to promote students' foreign language learning and understanding of foreign cultures in Chinese language areas. © 2021 ACM.

The rising environmental challenges in waste management have prompted an urgent need for effective recycling initiatives. This study investigates the intention of Generation Z (Gen-Z) in Indonesia to participate in a Deposit Refund System (DRS), a system aimed at promoting recycling behaviors. Using a convergent mixed-method approach, quantitative data from 228 respondents were analyzed via Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) to assess relationships between intention, distrust, environmental concern, and behavioral intention. Qualitative data analysis, employing vector embedding and k-means clustering, revealed key patterns and themes in Gen-Z's attitudes. Integration of qualitative and quantitative results through PLS-SEM provided a comprehensive understanding of Gen-Z motivations towards environmental sustainability. The results show that environmental concern positively impacts behavioral intention, while distrust was found to be statistically insignificant. This study offers practical and academic insights for policymakers to design more effective DRS initiatives. Future research could explore the long-term behavioral shifts resulting from DRS participation and the role of digital platforms in enhancing engagement. © 2024 IEEE.

Logit regression analysis is widely applied in scientific studies and laboratory experiments, where skewed observations on a data set are often encountered. A number of problems with this method, for example, oudiers and influential observations, can cause overdispersion when a model is fitted. In this study a systematic statistical approach, including the plotting of several indices is used to diagnose the lack-of-fit of a logistic regression model. The outliers and influential observations on data from laboratory experiments are then detected. Specifically we take account of the interaction of an internal sohtary wave （ISW） with an obstacle, i.e., an underwater ridge, and also analyze the effects of the ridge height, the lower layer water depth, and the potential energy on the amplitude-based transmission rate of the ISW. As concluded, the goodness-of-fit of the revised logit regression model is better than that of the model without this approach.
