The chemical screening of an algae-containing marine sponge identified as Lendenfeldia species has isolated two 24-homoscalarane sesterterpenoids, including a known compound, felixin A (1) and a new analogue, lendenfeldarane V (2). The structure of 1, obtained in a previous study, was cited for the first time in this study via single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The structure of 2 was ascertained via 2D NMR experiments and a literature review. The absolute configurations of 1 and 2 were delineated with DP4+ computation and specific optical rotation. Homoscalarane 1 exhibited cytotoxicity towards MG63 human osteosarcoma cells. © 2024 Phytochemical Society of Europe

Heavy metals (HMs) contained terrestrial ecosystems are often significantly display the antibiotic resistome in the pristine area due to increasing pressure from anthropogenic activity, is complex and emerging research interest. This study investigated that impact of chromium (Cr), nickel (Ni), cobalt (Co) concentrations in serpentine soil on the induction of antibiotic resistance genes and antimicrobial resistance within the native bacterial community as well as demonstrated their metabolic fingerprint. The full-length 16S-rRNA amplicon sequencing observed an increased abundance of Firmicutes, Actinobacteriota, and Acidobacteriota in serpentine soil. The microbial community in serpentine soil displayed varying preferences for different carbon sources, with some, such as carbohydrates and carboxylic acids, being consistently favored. Notably, 27 potential antibiotic resistance opportunistic bacterial genera have been identified in different serpentine soils. Among these, Lapillicoccus, Rubrobacter, Lacibacter, Chloroplast, Nitrospira, Rokubacteriales, Acinetobacter, Pseudomonas were significantly enriched in high and medium HMs concentrated serpentine soil samples. Functional profiling results illustrated that vancomycin resistance pathways were prevalent across all groups. Additionally, beta-lactamase, aminoglycoside, tetracycline, and vancomycin resistance involving specific bio-maker genes (ampC, penP, OXA, aacA, strB, hyg, aph, tet(A/B), otr(C), tet(M/O/Q), van(A/B/D), and vanJ) were the most abundant and enriched in the HMs-contaminated serpentine soil. Overall, this study highlighted that heavy-metal enriched serpentine soil is potential to support the proliferation of bacterial antibiotic resistance in native microbiome, and might able to spread antibiotic resistance to surrounding environment. © 2024 Elsevier Ltd

Objectives: The 12-item Self-Compassion Scale–Short Form (SCS–SF) is a widely used instrument for the assessment of self-compassion. To date, there have been few examinations of this instrument’s psychometric properties, particularly across nations and languages. Therefore, we used data from the Body Image in Nature Survey (BINS) to assess measurement invariance of the SCS–SF across nations, languages, gender identities, and age groups. Methods: Participants (N = 56,968) from 65 nations completed the SCS–SF in 40 languages. Using these data, we tested various hypothesised models of the SCS–SF in the total sample and, using multi-group confirmatory factor analysis, tested for invariance of the optimal model across national groups, languages, gender identities, and age groups. Results: In the total dataset, we found that an 11-item, 2-factor model (i.e., SCS-11) provided best fit to the data, with the two factors tapping distinct constructs of compassionate and uncompassionate self-responding. The SCS-11 was found to be partially scalar invariant across national groups and languages, and fully scalar invariant across gender identities and age groups. There was wide variation in latent means for the two factors, particularly across national groups and languages. Further analyses showed negligible associations between the two factors and sociodemographic variables, including marital status, financial security, and urbanicity. Conclusions: Our results suggest that it may be possible to derive a stable 2-factor model of the SCS–SF for use in cross-cultural research, but also highlight the likelihood of cross-national and cross-linguistic variations in the way that self-compassion is understood. © The Author(s) 2025.

Prediction of inflation rate in Indonesia using ARIMAX and local polynomial model

One of the important macroeconomic indicators in Indonesia is inflation. Inflation is one of the factors affecting an economic growth, which is one of the SDG goals of 2030. The economy of a country can be disrupted if there is a rapidly fluctuation of inflation rate, so the movement of inflation rate becomes a matter that needs attention. One of the factors that affect inflation rate is a money supply, inflation occurs when the money supply grows faster the economy’s ability to produce goods and services under normal circumstances. The change of the money supply affects the determination of inflation rate in a developing country, like Indonesia. Therefore, it is necessary to do modeling, where the results of the analysis can be taken into consideration by the government in determining appropriate policies and controlling inflation rate in Indonesia. In this paper, we use parametric and nonparametric approaches to predict inflation rate in Indonesia. Modeling using a parametric approach, the ARIMAX method is not suitable because it does not meet the assumptions. So that, the nonparametric approach using local polynomial estimator can be an alternative in overcoming this problem. Based on the result of analysis, ARIMAX model obtained a MAPE value as 20.220%, it means that the model reasonable for prediction and it is not suitable. Nonparametric regression using polynomial local includes local linier and local quadratic models with MAPE values obtained of 4.303% and 5.127%, it means that both models highly accurate for prediction. In conclusion, the best model for predicting inflation rate in Indonesia, with a money supply as a predictor, is local linear model because it has a smallest MAPE value. This model can be used by the government to determine policies about inflation rate and to control the amount of money supply in Indonesia so that high or very low inflation rate does not occur.

CLNS1A is a chloride channel protein and an essential component of the methylosome complex, which additionally comprises PRMT5 and MEP50. In this study, we investigated its contribution to lung cancer and its potential as a therapeutic target. Analysis of transcriptomic datasets and western blotting revealed that CLNS1A, PRMT5, and MEP50 were overexpressed in lung cancer tissues, with elevated CLNS1A expression correlating with poor patient survival. CLNS1A overexpression enhanced platinum clearance from cells, increased the IC values for chemotherapy, and improved cell survival. Conversely, the knockdown of CLNS1A increased drug accumulation, reduced survival, and increased sensitivity to chemotherapy. The 3W mutant, a chloride channel-defective variant with steric hindrance at key bottleneck residues, impaired chloride ion transport, thereby reducing drug resistance, migration, and anchorage-independent growth. Mechanistically, CLNS1A promotes drug efflux through its chloride channel activity and activates the FAK-SRC-RAC1 pathway to enhance motility and clonogenicity. It also facilitates PRMT5-mediated RUVBL1 methylation to support anti-apoptotic DNA damage response signaling. In vivo, CLNS1A overexpression accelerated tumor growth and reduced survival, whereas CLNS1A knockdown sensitized tumors to cisplatin, enhancing therapeutic efficacy. These findings suggest that CLNS1A is a potential biomarker and therapeutic target, and its inhibition offers a strategy to overcome drug resistance and limit the metastatic progression of lung cancer.

Economic growth arises fast in Taiwan because of the rapid development of industry, and many problems of environmental pollutions occur consequently. Wastewater and polluted water are the major pollutants occurred in the environment. As the result, plenty of researches related to wastewater reduction and treatment are developed to resolve the problem of wastewater production. The problem of wastewater production has been reduced after wastewater treatment tests have been used. However, the production of sludge increases accompanying with the volume of wastewater treatment, which causes numerous costs generated for dealing with sludge treatment. In general, successful technics involved in industrial sludge reduction are divided into five methods, including physical, chemical, biological, sludge hydrolysis, and a combination of the above methods. This study developed a method for sludge reduction by using ultrasonic technic with low consumed energy, combined with biotreatment (active sludge process) to conduct tests of organic sludge reduction in one industrial area of Taiwan. There is no use of chemicals on tests of organic sludge reduction, which resulted in no second pollutants generated by the application of ultrasonic technic, and organic sludges can be reduced. The results of the pilot and laboratory tests showed above 40% of sludge reduction, and this method was available to apply on the real filed operation.

Transformative artificially intelligent tools, such as ChatGPT, designed to generate sophisticated text indistinguishable from that produced by a human, are applicable across a wide range of contexts. The technology presents opportunities as well as, often ethical and legal, challenges, and has the potential for both positive and negative impacts for organisations, society, and individuals. Offering multi-disciplinary insight into some of these, this article brings together 43 contributions from experts in fields such as computer science, marketing, information systems, education, policy, hospitality and tourism, management, publishing, and nursing. The contributors acknowledge ChatGPT's capabilities to enhance productivity and suggest that it is likely to offer significant gains in the banking, hospitality and tourism, and information technology industries, and enhance business activities, such as management and marketing. Nevertheless, they also consider its limitations, disruptions to practices, threats to privacy and security, and consequences of biases, misuse, and misinformation. However, opinion is split on whether ChatGPT's use should be restricted or legislated. Drawing on these contributions, the article identifies questions requiring further research across three thematic areas: knowledge, transparency, and ethics;digital transformation of organisations and societies;and teaching, learning, and scholarly research. The avenues for further research include: identifying skills, resources, and capabilities needed to handle generative AI;examining biases of generative AI attributable to training datasets and processes;exploring business and societal contexts best suited for generative AI implementation;determining optimal combinations of human and generative AI for various tasks;identifying ways to assess accuracy of text produced by generative AI;and uncovering the ethical and legal issues in using generative AI across different contexts. © 2023 The Authors

Land use classification based on object and pixel using Landsat 8 OLI in Kendari City, Southeast Sulawesi Province, Indonesia

Current development on method and technique for data processing in remote sensing has received a great importance, since it provides a base for a myriad of applications, including land use monitoring. OBIA- and pixel-based approach are commonly used as classification technique in remote sensing. This present work aimed to compare both approaches in classifying the land use in Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi Province, using Landsat 8 OLI (Operational Land Imager). Digital images were processed using both techniques with the use of support vector machine (SVM) algorithm. The 188 sampling spots in the study site were randomly determined, then classified into 5 groups of land use: water body, follow land, built up land, residential area, and vegetation. Data obtained were then validated according to data from google earth and ground check. The accuracy was assessed by confusion matrix method using Region of Interest (ROI). The results showed that OBIA-based classification coupled with SVM algorithm showed overall accuracy of 81.38%, Kappa coefficient of 78.77%, in which the accuracy was 9.57% higher than pixel-based classification. Based on this finding, OBIA was reported to produce a better performance in identifying land use in urban area.

Leading sector analysis in West Kotawaringin Regency, Central Kalimantan Province, Indonesia

The balance between economic, social, and environmental aspects should be fulfilled in the planning of sustainable regional development. The main engine of regional economic development is the leading sector, which is characterized by strong linkage between forward and backward sectors. This research is intended to analyze leading sectors in West Kotawaringin Regency, Central Kalimantan Province. The data used is the 2012 IO (Input-output) table, analysed using the Input-Output analysis method. Result of the research indicates that the leading sectors of West Kotawaringin Regency are agriculture; transportation and communication; trade, hotel and restaurant; and processing industry. As for the 48 sector groups, for the agricultural sector are rubber, wood, and oil palm; transportation and communication sector are river, lake and harbor transportation, sea transportation, and air transportation; trade, hotel, and restaurant sector is hotels and restaurants followed by trade. The manufacturing sector is the processing and preservation, the building wood and the sawmill industry.
