Disposal of Lapindo mud which carries nutrients and other dissolved organic matter into the Porong estuary, can cause the death of aquatic organisms due to high contamination and disturbance of aquatic ecosystems. The presence of phytoplankton can explain the current condition of the Porong Estuary. The purpose of this study was to report the water quality and plankton composition of the Porong estuary. The method used in this study is a descriptive survey method. Determination of sampling points using the appropriate sampling method at three stations. The research variables observed included water quality parameters such as temperature, total dissolved solids (TDS), total suspended solids (TSS), total organic matter (TOM), pH, dissolved oxygen (DO), carbon dioxide (CO2), biological oxygen demand (BOD), nitrate, ammonia, orthophosphate, salinity and observations of phytoplankton in water bodies. The water quality values at stations 1, 2, and 3 respectively for TSS, pH, DO, BOD, TOM, nitrate, ammonia, orthophosphate shows a less than optimal value. Water conditions based on plankton abundance 24,678 cells/mL, 44,904 cells/mL, 18,312 cells/mL were eutrophic. The average of water quality parameters classified as less than optimal. Relatively, station 1 is the station with the best conditions between stations 2 and 3.

Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic has created an urgent demand for research, which has spurred the development of enhanced biosafety protocols in biosafety level (BSL)-3 laboratories to safeguard against the risks associated with handling highly contagious pathogens. Laboratory management failures can pose significant hazards. Methods: An external system captured images of personnel entering a laboratory, which were then analyzed by an AI-based system to verify their compliance with personal protective equipment (PPE) regulations, thereby introducing an additional layer of protection. A deep learning model was trained to detect the presence of essential PPE items, such as clothing, masks, hoods, double-layer gloves, shoe covers, and respirators, ensuring adherence to World Health Organization (WHO) standards. The internal laboratory management system used a deep learning model to delineate alert zones and monitor compliance with the imposed safety protocols. Results: The external detection system was trained on a dataset consisting of 4112 images divided into 15 PPE compliance classes. The model achieved an accuracy of 97.52 % and a recall of 97.03 %. The identification results were presented in real time via a visual interface and simultaneously stored on the administrator's dashboard for future reference. We trained the internal management system on 3347 images, achieving 90 % accuracy and 85 % recall. The results were transmitted in JSON format to the internal monitoring system, which triggered alerts in response to violations of safe practices or alert zones. Real-time notifications were sent to the administrators when the safety thresholds were met. Conclusion: The BSL-3 laboratory monitoring system significantly reduces the risk of exposure to pathogens for personnel during laboratory operations. By ensuring the correct use of PPE and enhancing adherence to the imposed safety protocols, this system contributes to maintaining the integrity of BSL-3 facilities

Sorption-enhanced steam gasification of fine coal waste for fuel producing

Improving the quality of syngas from fine coal waste using the sorption-enhanced gasification process is a novel technology in the production of H2. The effect of CaO on CO2 absorption and H2 increase in the steam fine coal gasification process was determined in a fixed bed gasifier. The steam gasification process took place at 650 °C using bentonite and CaO as catalysts and absorbents. Steam increased the H2 concentration in the syngas to 58 vol%. In-situ CO2 absorption is more effective with the addition of CaO. The maximum percentage of CO2 was absorbed when the Ca/C ratio 2 was 78.33 %. The H2 content in the syngas after the CO2 was absorbed increased rapidly to 75.80 vol% at a Ca-to-carbon-mole ratio (Ca/C) of 1.5 and a steam-to-feedstock ratio (S/F) of 1.5. CaO did not produce significant results for low heating value (LHV) or cold gas efficiency (CGE), with results of 12 MJ/Nm3 and 44.53 %. The dominant water gas shift reaction due to the influence of steam and CaO increased H2/CO up to 9.11, which made the syngas from this work suitable for Fischer–Tropsch synthesis. © 2022 The Authors

Efficient path planning technology for autonomous vehicles not only yields significant time savings but also contributes to reducing fuel usage. Various methodologies have been introduced and documented in the literature concerning the path planning of autonomous vehicles. While these methodologies may not ensure an optimal solution, they have demonstrated successful applications in their respective contexts, especially the ant colony algorithm. Nevertheless, not many papers discuss the literature review from the viewpoint of ant colony-based path planning. This paper aims to provide a comprehensive review encompassing the modeling, optimization criteria, and solution algorithms related to the ant colony for path planning. In this study, the review of the ant colony algorithm is divided into global and local path planning. Based on the review results, the ant colony algorithm appears suitable for global path planning. To achieve better performance, it can be combined with other algorithms such as artificial potential field (APF), genetic algorithm, and particle swarm algorithm. These studies are conducted solely in simulations. Therefore, further research should be carried out to ensure the performance of combining the ant colony and APF for autonomous vehicles for both global and local path planning. © 2023 IEEE.

Daphne is a computer-assisted musical analysis system that analyzes musical structure and other information necessary for computer music applications, especially for performance synthesis. The obtained analysis results are stored in a style which extends the information of a note event so that application systems can share analysis information. Providing sheets of real musical scores, Daphne’s design includes a unique function of analysis database which stores analysis result of multiple editions of a piece. Users can make use of the database to consider how performance is generated based on the interpretation of each edition. In this paper, we describe how analysis information is stored and shared among computer music applications — performance synthesis with rules, performance visualization, and automated accompaniment. © 2000 ICMC. A crucial aspect of autonomous vehicles is path planning, which involves using various algorithms to determine the most efficient routes. This study investigates the application of the Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) algorithm to create a system for identifying the shortest path. The process includes collecting coordinate data from specific test locations on the Universitas Sriwijaya Indralaya campus to generate a graph-based map for analysis. The study begins with gathering route data through the Google Maps application, which includes 182 routes. In simulation tests, the routes generated by ACO differ from those suggested by Google Maps;sometimes, the ACO route is longer and sometimes shorter, due to the probabilistic nature of the ACO algorithm in finding optimal routes. The average error compared to Google Maps is 11.7 meters. Additional tests introduce obstacles on the road, requiring the system to find alternative routes. For instance, the initial route from the auditorium to the Faculty of science and Math is 38-39-11-53-110-54-111 with a route length of 670 m. After adding a roadblock in front of the Faculty of engineering, the route changes to 38-39-116-40-70-69-56-111, with a route length of 730 meters. These tests demonstrate that the ACO algorithm effectively identifies the best routes for autonomous vehicles, both under normal conditions and when obstacles are present. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper attempts to optimise the single screw extrusion (SSE) process parameters for extruding polylactic acid (PLA)/magnesium (Mg)/hydroxyapatite (HA) composite filament, aiming for a final filament diameter of 1.75 mm to enhance process efficiency and output quality. In this study, the Taguchi method was employed to systematically evaluate how screw speed, nozzle diameter, material composition, and temperature affect filament diameter. The analysis demonstrated that screw speed, nozzle diameter, material composition, and temperature significantly affect the filament diameter. Under optimal conditions (94% wt PLA, 4% wt Mg, and 2% wt HA, 1.95 mm nozzle diameter, 6 rpm screw speed, and 175°C), the resulting filament diameter closely approached 1.75 mm. These findings enhance the fabrication efficiency and quality of composite filaments, with promising applications in advanced bone scaffolds. © 2025, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Automatic Identification System (AIS) data contains static and dynamic information for identification, tracking, and collision avoidance of vessels, as well as management of maritime activities. In the utilization of AIS data, a data pipeline framework is needed which includes the process of capturing messages, translating messages, detecting data corruption, cleaning damaged data, reconstructing trajectories, visualizing data, and storing data for analysis needs. Usually, the analysis and storage of AIS data are done offline which makes it not conducive to understanding vessel dynamics. In addition, large AIS data contains incomplete and noisy information that affects the quality of the trajectory. In this context, this article has proposed an AIS data pipeline framework in the form of pre-processing and real-time trajectory reconstruction. Pre-processing is intended to eliminate data anomalies caused by transmission errors. While the trajectory reconstruction process to overcome missing values due to noise is based on the Cubic Spline interpolation technique. All processes in the data pipeline framework are streamed using Apache Kafka. The simulation results show that the proposed AIS data pipelines framework has succeeded in visualizing the data flow in the form of a map application and trajectory reconstruction in real-time. © 2022 IEEE.

Household bleach products as high-performance and cost-effective cleaning agents for membrane fouling

It has been widely known that polymeric membrane such as polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) is very prone to fouling that occurs during the filtration process. In the same light, membrane cleaning has also been popularly used as a mean to remove foulants which accumulated on or inside the membrane. In this paper, the utilization of domestic bleach, which is affordable and easily found in the nearest markets, as the membrane cleaning agent is discussed. The performance evaluation is conducted on three kinds of commercial domestic bleaches, namely Bayclin, Proclin, and Soclin. In order to study deeper about those product potentials, the performance is compared with the pure sodium hypochloride (NaOCl) which has been known as a common chemical cleaning agent, and distillate water. The results show that the bleach products work excellence in cleaning the fouled membrane which confirmed by the scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis results, in which membranes cleaned with the bleaches have cleaner surface compared to that cleaned with distillate water. Interestingly, the positive outcome can also be seen in the flux recovery ratio (FRR) of the membranes after cleaning which managed to recover up to 95% of the lost flux. Overall, all three bleach products showed closely similar performance as the original NaOCl, and showed far better performance than distillate water. This result emphasizes that the domestic bleaches are highly promising to be membrane chemical cleaning agents, replacing the common chemicals. This work makes a significant contribution toward giving reasonably priced options for alternative methods of cleaning membranes. © 2023 The Author(s)

The recent deployment of very large-scale camera networks consisting of fixed/moving surveillance cameras and vehicle video recorders, has led to a novel field in object tracking problem. The major goal is to detect and track each vehicle within a large area, which can be applied to video forensics. For example, a suspected vehicle can be automatically identified for mining digital criminal evidences from a large amount of video data. In this paper, we propose an efficient cross-camera vehicle tracking technique via affine invariant object matching. More specifically, we formulate the problem as invariant image feature matching among different viewpoints of cameras. To achieve vehicle matching, we first extract invariant image feature based on ASIFT (affine and scale-invariant feature transform) for each detected vehicle in a camera network. Then, to improve the accuracy of ASIFT feature matching between images from different viewpoints, we propose to efficiently match feature points based on our observed spatially invariant property of ASIFT, as well as the min-hash technique. As a result, cross-camera vehicle tracking can be efficiently and accurately achieved. Experimental results demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed algorithm and the feasibility to video forensics applications. © 2013 IEEE.
