Objective: Monitoring the depth of anesthesia (DoA) plays an important role for administering the drug injection during a surgery, i.e., preventing undesired awareness and inordinate anesthetic depth. Although the bispectral index (BIS) monitor is the golden standard system for the DoA monitoring, it is still not affordable for the developing countries. Alternatively, a low-cost electroencephalogram (EEG) headband can be used. The objective of this paper is to present a new algorithm for estimating the BIS values using a single frontal EEG channel. Method: In the first step, the EEG signal is filtered for the elimination of artifacts and is split into its sub-bands. In the second step, several linear and nonlinear features are extracted from each sub-band and fed to a random forest regression model in order to estimate the BIS. The performance of the proposed algorithm is assessed using EEG data recorded from twenty-four subjects during the general anesthesia and is validated in terms of correlation coefficient (CC) and absolute error (AE) between the reference and estimated BIS values. Results: The proposed algorithm achieved the mean CC of 0.83 and AE of 6.5 for intra subject variability and mean CC of 0.87 and AE of 5.5 for inter subject variability. Significance: Given the similar results for both intra and inter subject variability, the proposed algorithm has the potential to be used in the real-world scenario. © 2023 IEEE.

As the global population ages, the number of elderly people needing hearing aids is increasing. This paper proposed an architecture designed to enhance speech based on noise conditions. After noise types are identified by a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) noise classification model, these noise conditions are combined with the noisy speech and input into a conditional Generative Adversarial Network (cGAN) for speech enhancement. The CNN noise classification model achieves an average recognition accuracy of nearly 92%, with a Kappa value as high as 0.88. The cGAN speech enhancement achieves lower error values in the Mel-Cepstral Distortion (MCD) measure. Although some parts of the human voice may be filtered out, the results demonstrate the potential development of the proposed algorithm.

Network Function Virtualization (NFV) enables the decoupling of network functions from dedicated hardware to run them as software instances on commodity servers through virtualization, replacing hardware-based network functions with software-based Virtual Network Functions (VNFs). In this paper, we study the joint problem of VNF decomposition and migration to address VNF embedding in NFV resource allocation (NFV-RA). More specifically, we investigate how VNF migration and VNF decomposition can be mutually beneficial to minimize the embedding cost of network services. After presenting a novel formulation of the problem as an integer linear programming (ILP), we validate it by CPLEX and show that our joint VNF decomposition and migration approach can outperform the VNF decomposition-only approach by 20% in terms of embedding cost.

Non-adherence to medications is a critical concern since nearly half of patients with chronic illnesses do not follow their prescribed medication regimens, leading to increased mortality, costs, and preventable human distress. Amongst stage 0-3 breast cancer survivors, adherence to long-term adjuvant endocrine therapy (i.e., Tamoxifen and aromatase inhibitors) is associated with a significant increase in recurrence-free survival. This work aims to develop multi-scale models of medication adherence to understand the significance of different factors influencing adherence across varying time frames. We introduce a computational framework guided by Social Cognitive Theory for multi-scale (daily and weekly) modeling of longitudinal medication adherence. Our models employ both dynamic medication-taking patterns in the recent past (dynamic factors) as well as less frequently changing factors (static factors) for adherence prediction. Additionally, we assess the significance of various factors in influencing adherence behavior across different time scales. Our models outperform traditional machine learning counterparts in both daily and weekly tasks in terms of both accuracy and specificity. Daily models achieved an accuracy of 87.25% (Precision – 92.04%, Recall – 93.15%, Specificity – 77.50%), and weekly models, an accuracy of 76.04% (Precision – 75.83%, Recall – 85.80%, Specificity – 72.30%). Notably, dynamic past medication-taking patterns prove most valuable for predicting daily adherence, while a combination of dynamic and static factors is significant for macro-level weekly adherence patterns. While our models exhibit strong predictive performance, they are constrained by potential cohort-specific biases, reliance on self-reported adherence data, and a limited understanding of the context around non-adherence. Humans rely increasingly on sensors to address grand challenges and to improve quality of life in the era of digitalization and big data. For ubiquitous sensing, flexible sensors are developed to overcome the limitations of conventional rigid counterparts. Despite rapid advancement in bench-side research over the last decade, the market adoption of flexible sensors remains limited. To ease and to expedite their deployment, here, we identify bottlenecks hindering the maturation of flexible sensors and propose promising solutions. We first analyze continued...challenges in achieving satisfactory sensing performance for real-world applications and then summarize issues in compatible sensor-biology interfaces, followed by brief discussions on powering and connecting sensor networks. Issues en route to commercialization and for sustainable growth of the sector are also analyzed, highlighting environmental concerns and emphasizing nontechnical issues such as business, regulatory, and ethical considerations. Additionally, we look at future intelligent flexible sensors. In proposing a comprehensive roadmap, we hope to steer research efforts towards common goals and to guide coordinated development strategies from disparate communities. Through such collaborative

Cloud computing (CC) platform not only offers resource sharing for users and also provide many on-demand services. Business procedures can be managed to utilize the workflow technology on the cloud which signifies most of the problems in employing the resources in an effectual approach because of the dependencies between the tasks. Task scheduling (TS) in a CC platform applies to the procedure of effectively allocating resources computing to tasks or jobs submitted to the CC environment. In a cloud platform, tasks are separated as smaller subtasks that are applied in parallel on distinct machines. There are many features to consider if the TS is in CC platform, comprising the kind of tasks like resources cost, resources required, and resources availability. Therefore, this study presents a Hybrid Competitive Swarm Optimization Algorithm based Task Scheduling (HCSOA-TS) technique in the CC platform. The presented HCSOA-TS technique schedules the tasks proficiently in such a way that maximum resource utilization and performance gets accomplished. In the design of HCSOA, Cauchy mutation operator is included in the CSO algorithm and thereby improves the overall performance. In addition, the derivation of the fitness function by the HCSOA-TS technique undergoes optimal scheduling process and decreases energy usage. The experimental result analysis of the HCSOA-TS technique is tested using a series of measures. The comprehensive comparison study highlighted the improvements of the HCSOA-TS technique over recent approaches.

Halal food supply chains (HFSCs) are increasingly characterized by fragmentation, complexity, and uncertainty. Halal food consumers are becoming more demanding for food quality and compliance with Islamic dietary law. As sustainability is a multidimensional concept that entails several aspects and interpretations, the objectives of HFSCs significantly overlap with the sustainable dimensions of the food ecosystem. The purpose of this study is to examine the inherent sustainable aspects and characteristics of HFSCs. Therefore, a systematic literature review and a bibliometric analysis were conducted to redress the lack of academic attention being given to the relationships of HFSCs with sustainability. Selected 74 papers were coded and analyzed according to the dimensions of sustainability, namely, the economic, social, and environmental dimensions. The review primarily attempts to provide answers to the following research question: What are the sustainable aspects of HFSCs? We provide a comprehensive analysis of the three critical components of sustainability, offering a broad and comprehensive picture of many critical issues in HFSCs. Finally, the contribution of the study, the scope of future research, and the limitations are highlighted in detail. © 2021 Taylor & Francis.

One-Shot Action Recognition via Multi-Scale Spatial-Temporal Skeleton Matching

One-shot skeleton action recognition, which aims to learn a skeleton action recognition model with a single training sample, has attracted increasing interest due to the challenge of collecting and annotating large-scale skeleton action data. However, most existing studies match skeleton sequences by comparing their feature vectors directly which neglects spatial structures and temporal orders of skeleton data. This paper presents a novel one-shot skeleton action recognition technique that handles skeleton action recognition via multi-scale spatialtemporal feature matching. We represent skeleton data at multiple spatial and temporal scales and achieve optimal feature matching from two perspectives. The first is multi-scale matching which captures the scale-wise semantic relevance of skeleton data at multiple spatial and temporal scales simultaneously. The second is cross-scale matching which handles different motion magnitudes and speeds by capturing sample-wise relevance across multiple scales. Extensive experiments over three large-scale datasets (NTU RGB+D, NTU RGB+D 120, and PKU-MMD) show that our method achieves superior one-shot skeleton action recognition, and outperforms SOTA consistently by large margins. The utilization of technology only aims to be fast, precise, and accurate in each implementation and find a better solution at that time in several sectors. This study aims to identify the use of Global Positioning Technology (GPS) technology to track the position of the motor sailing yachts, specifically with the features used on a device or smart-phone during a trip or expedition. This research uses a type of applied research to solve problems that are faced clearly, and the results can be used as a basis for solving corrective steps. The results found that GPS-Technology on motor sailing yachts in "Pelayaran Rakyat"maritime can receive coordinates point and then send these coordinates to the vessel-tracking systems to determine the position of the motor sailing yachts between users. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
