Original reactive powder concrete (RPC) consists of a large amount of cement, fine sand, crushed quartz, and silica fume, with a very dense matrix achieved by optimizing the granular packaging of the materials. This study, therefore, applied the modified Andreasen & Andersen particle-packing model using Aceh quartzite powder to design a densely compacted matrix and low cement content RPC mixtures. The research involved the preparation of two series of the mixture with different percentages of silica fume and Aceh quartzite powder and the 70.7 mm cube specimens were treated with combined steam curing and normal curing after which their compressive strength was tested at the age of 7 days and 28 days. The result showed the use of 61% local quartzite powder by weight of cement through an optimized mix design and cured treatment improves the RPC strength at any variation of silica fume. © 2021 Trans Tech Publications Ltd, Switzerland.

Optimum Design of Manganese-coated Copper Catalytic Converter to Reduce Carbon Monoxide Emissions on Gasoline Motor

One of the engineering technologies that can be used to reduce air pollution is the use of catalytic converter mounted on vehicle gas exhaust duct. Unfortunately, these tools are very expensive in the market and not all motor vehicles use these technologis, because the catalyst was made from exoensive metals and rarely available in the market, such as: Palladium, Platinum and Rhodium. Besides, the catalyst is susceptible to premium fuel with low levels of lead (Pb) which results in the damage of the function of the catalyst due to blockage in the honeycomb Catalytic Converter. Therefore research needs to be done in the laboratory to test the other substrate materials as a catalyst, to study the ability of the catalyst in a catalytic converter to reduce exhaust emissions of Carbon Monoxide. This research will also study the performance capabilities and assess the effectiveness of Manganese-coated Copper catalysts which are designed in such a way to obtain the appropriate shape and type of Catalytic Converter catalyst and suitable for premium fuel motor vehicles. The result showed that (1) Catalytic Converter design and modification of catalytic materials can be an alternative to overcome the high air pollution problem from the transportation sector, esspecially particular Carbon Monoxide exhaust emissions from gasoline motors. (2) The use of Manganese-Coated Copper as a catalyst in the catalytic converter was significantly able to increase the reduction of Carbon Monoxide exhaust emissions. (3) The increase of catalyst cells amount decreased the concentration of Carbon Monoxide exhaust emissions. (4) Optimum Design of Model 2 Catalytic Converter was able to reduce exhaust emissions of Carbon Monoxide.

In this study, we use the CIMulator platform to evaluate the performance of neuromorphic accelerators with novel Hf0.5Zr0.5O2 (HZO) ferroelectric fin field-effect transistor (FefinFET) as synaptic device. The MNIST handwritten digit dataset is used for training and inference processes in multilayer perceptron (MLP) neural networks. With the highly optimized synaptic device, the results demonstrate high training and inference accuracy, achieving up to 97% for the MLP, approaching the accuracy of software implementations. © 2024 IEEE.

Intracellular delivery of therapeutic proteins has increased advantages over current small-molecule drugs and gene therapies, especially in therapeutic efficacies for a broad spectrum of diseases. Hence, developing the protein therapeutics approach provides a needed alternative. Here, we designed a mesoporous silica nanoparticle (MSN)-mediated protein delivery approach and demonstrated effective intracellular delivery of the denatured superoxide dismutase (SOD) protein, overcoming the delivery challenges and achieving higher enzymatic activity than native SOD-conjugated MSNs. The denatured SOD-conjugated MSN delivery strategy provides benefits of reduced size and steric hindrance, increased protein flexibility without distorting its secondary structure, exposure of the cell-penetrating peptide transactivator of transcription for enhanced efficient delivery, and a change in the corona protein composition, enabling cytosolic delivery. After delivery, SOD displayed a specific activity around threefold higher than in our previous reports. Furthermore, the in vivo biosafety and therapeutic potential for neuron therapy were evaluated, demonstrating the biocompatibility and the effective antioxidant effect in Neuro-2a cells that protected neurite outgrowth from paraquat-induced reactive oxygen species attack. This study offers an opportunity to realize the druggable possibility of cytosolic proteins using MSNs. © 2022 American Chemical Society.

Hazardous and toxic materials are not only produced by industrial sectors. But also by household sector. Unfortunately, no establish regulation and standard operational procedure was found for handling HHW. Most of HHW are currently mixed with domestics waste. So that, it can impact on the health and the reduction environment quality. The research aimed to produce the most effective and efficient model of household hazardous waste by considering the impact on the environment especially related to global warming and the indicator of greenhouse gas emissions. This research used Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) approach according to ISO 14040: 2006 by using 150 kg of household hazardous waste. The impact category (LCIA) was observed and limited on global warming with the indicator of greenhouse gas (GHG) emission. The LCIA method used was IPCC 2007 GWP 100a V1.01 by using Simapro program version 7.1. The result show, recycling HHW is the best scenario based on the LCA approach. The impact of greenhouse gases emissions is only about 135,25 kg CO 2 eq release to environment.

Fly ash is the residue from burning coal in the form of fine and light particles and can be harmful to the environment and life. Whereas fly ash contains high silica so that it can be used as a precursor for zeolite blinding. Zeolite as an adsorbent for aquatic waste needs to be improved so that it can absorb more adsorbate. Therefore, it is necessary to modify the zeolite from fly ash, such as coating with manganese and iron oxide. The zeolite is made from fly ash extraction and synthesize using hydrothermal method. In this study, it was found that fly ash contains about 45.20% silica and the synthetic zeolite was successfully coated with manganese and iron oxide evidenced by the results of FTIR and XRD. This is indicated by the presence of manganese oxide at an absorption of 453.29 cm-1 using FTIR and manganese oxide on XRD aimed at 2θ = 37.356°;47.337°;51,879°;57.966°;61.822° and 67.5552°. Meanwhile, the FTIR results of iron oxide were indicated by the presence of an absorption band at 447.50 cm-1 and XRD diffraction peaks at 2θ = 30,643° and 2θ = 60,322°. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Dominant environmental burdens of vertical transportation systems arise from their use of electricity while in operation in buildings. The Vertical Transportation Planning in Buildings' research project by Richard Peters provides environmental assessment of VTS, improvements in light system models, and green control strategies. Central to the project is the simulation program, Liftsim. It brings together project research in traffic modeling, kinematics and motor modeling. The program has been applied in developing energy saving control strategies, from which energy savings in excess of 30% can be achieved.

In the digital age, managing urban heritage sites presents unique challenges that necessitate the integration of smart technologies. This review assesses the integration and impact of smart city initiatives on sustainable environmental management in urban heritage sites. Through a comprehensive literature review of 84 papers from ScienceDirect and Scopus, this study categorizes the findings into three themes: Smart City Initiative Analysis, Heritage Site Considerations, and Smart Technology Integration Models. The review highlights the significant contributions of smart technologies, such as digital analysis, 3D documentation, and Information and communication technology, in enhancing sustainability and preserving cultural values. Case studies from Amsterdam, Barcelona, Seville, and Uzbek illustrate these initiatives’ practical applications and outcomes. The paper underscores the need for robust policies, public awareness, and multidisciplinary collaboration to maximize the benefits of smart city initiatives. Finally, the study identifies gaps in current research and suggests further research directions for integrating smart technologies into urban heritage site management.

To evaluate the waste process incineration, a mass, and energy balance is employed to investigate the waste incineration process in a fixed bed. Thermodynamics equilibrium is implemented to describe the incineration process. The complete combustion is only products CO2, H2O, SO2, ash, and excess O2 considered. The mass balance calculates the total mass flow in and out incinerator. Energy balance includes input heat, evaporating heat, chemical heat, radiation, and convection. The input heat is calculated by considering the heat capacity, temperature, heating value, and total mass flow. Evaporation heat is calculated based on the water content, mass flow of each aqueous, and evaporation hot water flow. The result shows that efficiency energy of waste incinerator up to 79,33%. It means the incinerator is included in the good category. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
