Clone detection can be used to achieve diverse objectives such as refactoring, program understanding, bug localization, and plagiarism detection, etc. Each goal takes a different perspective on clone information needs. Different clone detection tools report different information about clones. To gauge the suitability of a given clone detector for a particular user objective, we need to determine which information needs implied by the objective a clone detector addresses. In this paper, we make a first step toward gathering clone information needs from the description of user goals. The results of our analysis are useful for various stakeholders such as programmers, managers, tool developers, and researchers.

A very important issue in many applied fields is to construct the fitting curve that approximates a given set of data points optimally in the sense of least-squares. This problem arises in a number of areas, such as computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM), virtual reality, medical imaging, computer graphics, computer animation, and many others. Since the problem consists of minimizing the least-squares fitting error, it can be formulated as an optimization problem. Unfortunately, it is also a highly nonlinear, over-determined, multivariate continuous optimization problem. As a consequence, classical mathematical methods cannot solve it in its generality. Clearly, there is a need for more general techniques to tackle this issue. A critical step in this process is to obtain a suitable parameterization of the data points. In this context, this paper introduces a new method to obtain an optimal solution for the parameterization problem of the least-squares fitting Bézier curve. Our approach is based on a powerful nature-inspired optimization method called bat algorithm, which has been recently introduced to solve hard continuous optimization problems. In spite of these remarkable features for optimization, the bat algorithm has never been applied in the context of data fitting for geometric modeling or computer graphics. To analyze the performance of this approach, it has been applied to some simple yet illustrative examples of Bézier curves with satisfactory results.

This paper concerns the problem of obtaining a smooth fitting curve to a given set of (noisy) data points. This problem arises frequently in several industrial fields, such as computer-aided design and manufacturing (construction of car bodies, ship hulls, airplane fuselage), computer graphics and animation, medicine, and many others. The classical approach relies on polynomial functions to solve this problem. It has been noticed, however, that some shapes cannot be properly approximated through this polynomial scheme. In this paper, we address this issue by using rational functions, particularly the rational Bernstein basis functions. This poses an additional challenge: we have not only to compute the poles of the resulting rational Bézier fitting curve but also to obtain their corresponding weights and a suitable parameterization of data points. Overall, this leads to a continuous multivariate nonlinear optimization problem that cannot be solved through traditional mathematical optimization techniques. Our approach to tackle this issue is based on a memetic firefly algorithm combining a powerful metaheuristic technique (the firefly algorithm) for global optimization with a local search method. The performance of our scheme is illustrated through its application to four illustrative examples of free-form synthetic shapes. Our experimental results show that our memetic approach performs very well, and allows us to reconstruct the underlying shape of data points automatically with high accuracy. A comparative analysis on our benchmark shows that our approach outperforms some alternative methods reported in the literature for this problem.

Software repository data, for example in issue tracking systems, include natural language text and technical information, which includes anything from log files via code snippets to stack traces. However, data mining is often only interested in one of the two types e.g. in natural language text when looking at text mining. Regardless of which type is being investigated, any techniques used have to deal with noise caused by fragments of the other type i.e. methods interested in natural language have to deal with technical fragments and vice versa. This paper proposes an approach to classify unstructured data, e.g. development documents, into natural language text and technical information using a mixture of text heuristics and agglomerative hierarchical clustering. The approach was evaluated using 225 manually annotated text passages from developer emails and issue tracker data. Using white space tokenization as a basis, the overall precision of the approach is 0.84 and the recall is 0.85.

The main objective of Emergency Medical Assistance services is to attend patients with sudden diseases at any possible location within an area of influence. Especially for severe emergency patients, the potential of such systems to reduce mortality is directly related to the response time, e.g., the time a patient has to wait for an ambulance. An efficient coordination of the ambulance fleet is crucial for reducing the response times of a service. And this requires complete, real-time information about the current state of the ambulance fleet. Such information is usually transmitted by the ambulance crew members. However, due to the often stressful work of those professionals, the information is frequently not sent in a timely manner. In this paper we present an approach that addresses this problem. We use a Complex Event Processing architecture to automatically identify and transmit incidents and changes in the operational states of ambulances. As a result, the availability of information in the control centre and, thus, the effectiveness of the service is improved. The system is inspired by the operational model of SUMMA112, the Emergency Medical Coordination Centre of the Autonomous Region of Madrid in Spain. Copyright 2014 ACM.

The archeological acoustics is a part of the acoustics that allows to study ancient environments which were dedicated (completely or partly) to sound performing. The combination of this acoustic area in conjunction with room acoustics can study the acoustic evolution of existing buildings (in terms of the historical documentation) or, even, make the acoustic reconstruction of rooms which has been destroyed or they are in a bad state or in ruins. In this work, an acoustical reconstruction of the church of the Hieronymites' monastery of the Murta from the XIV century, in Alzira, Spain has been developed. This building was abandoned in the XIX century and now is in ruins. The work develops a geometrical model, together with a proposal of materials which were common in the churches of the same area, an acoustical study and finally the auralization of an organ piece (as this monastery has its own musical chappele).

Free-form parametric curves are becoming increasingly popular in many theoretical and applied domains because of their ability to model a wide variety of complex shapes. In real-world applications those shapes are usually given in terms of data points, for which a fitting curve is to be obtained. Unfortunately, this is a very difficult task for classical optimization techniques. Recently, it has been shown that bio-inspired optimization techniques can be successfully applied to overcome this limitation. This paper introduces a new interactive, user-friendly computer software program for the representation and visualization of free-form parametric curves from sets of data points. Given a cloud of data points as initial input, the user is prompted to a graphical interface where he/she can choose the bio-inspired technique of his/her preference, set up the control parameters interactively, and obtain the mathematical representation and graphical visualization of the underlying shape. The paper discusses the main features of this software. An illustrative example of its application is also briefly reported. © 2014 Springer-Verlag.

Digital documentation of cultural heritage is a very important issue that is receiving increasing attention from the scientific community. The availability of accurate 3D models of historical buildings is crucial to preserve our cultural heritage, because it allows us to reconstruct them in case of fortuitous collapse or intentional demolition or damage. In this paper, we present a new approach for the digital documentation of cultural heritage. Our approach is based on a hybridization of different techniques for data capture and processing and image analysis, with the aim of obtaining 3D models from images and the texturing of these models. In particular, we rely on convergent photogrammetry as way to acquire information about the real objects for generation of 3D models. We also apply computer vision and artificial intelligence techniques for further processing of all acquired data. As a result, we have developed a new way to obtain digital documentation of cultural heritage from data by using accurate reverse engineering techniques. Our methodology has been successfully applied to the digital documentation of a famous historical building in the city of Santander: the Royal Palace of Magdalena, the conference venue of this conference Cyberworlds' 2014.

This paper explores the applicability of the software prototype developed for personalized access to semantically enriched art collection of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam in a different environment-city rather than museum. As a case study we take Amsterdam, a World Heritage City, i.e. a city that includes urban areas designated as World Heritage (WH). This is the first step towards turning our prototype into a generic tool applicable for generating recommendations/personalized routes in indoor and outdoor environments based on semantically described data of the museum collection or points of interest in the city. Moreover we allow for user model information reuse between various domains/scenarios served by our Web-based application therefore addressing the cold start problem while starting to use a new application.

Classical ontologies are not suitable to represent imprecise or vague information, which has led to several extensions using non-classical logics. In particular, several fuzzy extensions have been proposed in the literature. In this paper, we present the fuzzy ontology reasoner DeLorean, the first to support a fuzzy extension of OWL 2. We discuss how to use it for fuzzy ontology representation and reasoning, and describe some implementation details and optimization techniques. An empirical evaluation demonstrates that these optimizations considerably improve the performance of the reasoner. © 2013 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.
