In this paper, a P systems based general framework for modeling the dynamics of a popnlation biology is presented. Multienvironment probabilistic functional P systems with active membranes provide the syntactical specification, and the semantics is captured by using stochastic or probabilistic strategies implemented through simulation algorithms. © 2010 IEEE.

P systems provide a high level computational modeling framework which integrates the structural and dynamic aspects of ecosystems in a comprehensive and relevant way. In previous works, several ecosystems modeled by using P systems were presented. The good results obtained encourage us to study new ecosystems such as the one presented in this paper. Pyrenean Chamois (Rupicapra p. pyrenaica) is an ungulate species inhabiting the Catalan Pyrenees. In recent years, several diseases have caused a drastic decrease in the number of individuals. Since they provide significant economic contributions in the area and constitutes an important food resource for obligate and facultative scavengers, it is very interesting to provide a model in order to facilitate the management of their ecosystems. © 2010, Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

Multienvironment P systems are the base of a general framework for modeling ecosystems dynamics. On one hand, this modeling framework represents the structural and dynamical aspects of real ecosystems in a discrete, modular and compressive way. On the other hand, the inherent randomness and uncertainty of biological systems are captured by using probabilistic strategies. Nowadays, the simulation of these P systems based models is fundamental for experimentation and validation. In this paper, we introduce a new simulation algorithm, called DNDP, which performs object distribution and maximal consistency in the application of rules, that are crucial aspects of these systems. The paper also depicts a parallel implementation of the algorithm, and a comparison with the existing algorithm in PLinguaCore is provided. In order to test the performance of the presented algorithm, several experiments (simulations) have been carried out over four simple P systems with the same skeleton and different number of environments.

An Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system is a highly complex, large, multi-task application that is used to manage production in companies and factories. It monitors and tracks every aspect of all factory-based manufacturing processes. The integration of ERP and Business Process Management (BMP) systems facilitates information sharing between both systems. It represents one of the main challenges in the literature. Budgeting tasks represent one area in which ERP and BPM may be integrated. In this work several soft computing methods are applied to obtain a model which will help experts estimate performance. The results of the study show if the data gathered from the plant is informative enough, in order to integrate and shared it among the manufacturing and the business management software.

P systems provide a high level computational modelling framework that combines the structural and dynamical aspects of ecosystems in a compressive and relevant way. The inherent randomness and uncertainty in biological systems is captured by using probabilistic strategies. The design of efficient simulation algorithms in order to reproduce the behavior of these computational models over conventional computers is fundamental for the validation and virtual experimentation processes. In this paper, we describe the modelling framework and two different simulation algorithms. As a case study, a P system based model of an ideal ecosystem with three trophic levels is designed and simulated by both simulation algorithms, providing comparisons of efficiency between them.

IT infrastructures are becoming more and more difficult. Therefore, in the first industrial IT systems, the P2P paradigm has replaced the traditional client server and methods of self-organization are gaining more and more importance. From the past it is known that especially regular structures like grids may significantly improve the system behavior and performance. This contribution introduces a new algorithm based on a biologic analogue, which may provide the growth of several regular structures on top of anarchic grown P2P- or social network structures.

The component functions {Ψ n ( ε )} ( n 2 Z + ) from difference Schrödinger operators, can be formulated in a second order linear difference equation. Then the Harper equation, associated to almost-Mathieu operator, is a prototypical example. Its spectral behavior is amazing. Here, due the cosine coefficient in Harper equation, the component functions are expanded in a Chebyshev series of first kind, T n ( cos 2 πθ ). It permits us a particular method for the θ variable separation. Thus, component functions can be expressed as an inner product, ( cos 2 πθ ) · . A matrix block transference method is applied for the calculation of the vector . When θ is integer, {Ψ n ( ε ) is the sum of component from . The complete family of Chebyshev Polynomials can be generated, with fit initial conditions. The continuous spectrum is one band with Lebesgue measure equal to 4. When θ is not integer the inner product Ψ n can be seen as a perturbation of vector on the sum of components from the vector . When , with p and q coprime, periodic perturbation appears, the connected band from the integer case degenerates in q sub-bands. When θ is irrational, ergodic perturbation produces that one band spectrum from integer case degenerates to a Cantor set. Lebesgue measure is L σ = 4(1 – |λ|), 0 < |λ| ≤ 1. The results of a listening test conducted to evaluate the perceived similarity of the five metric patterns used in flamenco music are presented. The objective of this experiment includes testing out the validity of those measures from a perceptual point of view. Dissimilarity ratings were analyzed using multi-dimensional scaling and phylogenetic analysis, and the perceptual measures of similarity were then compared with mathematical measures of rhythmic similarity used in to determine which measure best matches human judgments. The graphical interface was programmed in Java on a MacPro computer, and sounds were presented over headphones. A dissimilarity matrix was created for each participant based on their ratings, and these values were averaged for every participant to symmetrize the matrix.
