The paper proposes a wearable system for panic attack detection, constructed by COTS products. It is the first open hardware/open software prototype of its kind to the best of the authors knowledge. In this paper, the requirements of the system are presented, as well as the development of the system using open hardware and open software. All the components are described and the system is detailed in order to be repeated for use as a reference system forpanic attack detection. © 2017 Association for Computing Machinery.

Counters are among the fundamental digital circuits in every computing system. For this reason, counter design is of great interest in the design of computers and embedded systems, in terms of area requirements,power dissipation and performance. Many techniques have been proposed in the past specifically to increase the counter's speed without increasing design complexity. Traditionally, it is of great concern to make a fast counter suitable for many applications, without adding to the critical path and keeping speed independent of its size. In this work, a binary counter is proposed, based on 1D Cellular Automata (CA), which is used as a prescaler in a systolic structure, that offers constant delay for counters of various bit-widths. © 2017 Association for Computing Machinery.

This work proposes an innovative home assisted system, based on the interaction of the stimulus earpiece. It addresses a need of people suffering from dementia as well as their familiars to be recognized by them and have better interaction and collaboration. The project aims not only to people already suffering from dementia at early stages but also people with genetic predisposition who may be trained appropriately to discover and create acoustical stimuli associated to their familiars. The system offers an ubiquitous recognition system, without the need for extensive training of the patient, based on the principles of music therapy and the features of wireless communication. To the best of the authors knowledge, this is the first system of its kind ever reported in the literature.

Smart phone has established itself as an inevitable part of one's life. Hence the growth rate of smart phone is expanding every year. In addition to the basic communication services such as voice calls and SMS a smart phone provides a wide variety of useful services such as internet connectivity, gaming, wireless connections with other devices, global positioning systems, digital camera, embedded memory etc. The improved popularity of Android devices and their convenient price attracted the malware developers also, which results in a drastic growth in the development of the Android malware applications (apps), between 2010 and 2018. Researchers have discovered that about four million new malware samples are developed and spread across the android market per year, and it was reported that more than 90% of these new malware samples belongs to any of the existing malware families. Through this paper, we propose a framework named MONITROID which generates a smart alert whenever a malicious app is launched in a user's phone. The alert message informs users about the dangerous impact of currently executing application. The backend server performs a massive malware detection and the identification of the malware family.

Brain activity can be seen as a time series, in particular, electroencephalogram (EEG) can measure it over a specific time period. In this regard, brain fingerprinting can be subjected to be learned by machine learning techniques. These models have been advocated as EEG-based biometric systems. In this study, we apply a recent Hybrid Focasting Model, which calibrates its if-then fuzzy rules with a hybrid GVNS metaheuristic algorithm, in order to learn those patterns. Due to the stochasticity of the VNS procedure, models with different characteristics can be generated for each individual. Some EEG recordings from 109 volunteers, measured using a 64-channels EEGs, with 160 HZ of sampling rate, are used as cases of study. Different forecasting models are calibrated with the GVNS and used for the classification purpose. New rules for classifying the individuals using forecasting models are introduced. Computational results indicate that the proposed strategy can be improved and embedded in the future biometric systems. © 2017 Elsevier B.V.

Porous structure and exploitation properties in nanostructured MgO-Al 2 O 3 ceramics prepared at 1300 °C and 1400 °C for 5 and 9 h were studied. In ceramics sintered at higher temperatures and durations there is an increase in the area of contact between grains, and also the open porosity is formed, which leads to an increase in the effective adsorption of humidity. A branched pore structure is required for effective sorption processes. Humidity sensitivity of ceramics and the minimum hysteresis in adsorption-desorption cycles are due to the three-dimensional distribution of pores in size and insignificant number of additional phases. The loss of humidity sensitivity in ceramics sintered at higher temperatures and durations is related with evolution of porous structure of ceramics. The degradation transformations in the investigated ceramic lead to the improvement of their humidity sensitivity.

Improving skip-gram based graph embeddings via centrality-weighted sampling

Network embedding techniques inspired by word2vec represent an effective unsupervised relational learning model. Commonly, by means of a Skip-Gram procedure, these techniques learn low dimensional vector representations of the nodes in a graph by sampling node-context examples. Although many ways of sampling the context of a node have been proposed, the effects of the way a node is chosen have not been analyzed in depth. To fill this gap, we have re-implemented the main four word2vec inspired graph embedding techniques under the same framework and analyzed how different sampling distributions affects embeddings performance when tested in node classification problems. We present a set of experiments on different well known real data sets that show how the use of popular centrality distributions in sampling leads to improvements, obtaining speeds of up to 2 times in learning times and increasing accuracy in all cases. This paper introduces a new paradigm in the electromagnetic (EM) analysis of largely inhomogeneous nanostructures. It is shown that the high degree of inhomogeneity may render the traditional discretisation of such topologies problematic. A new discretisation scheme that is much better matched to these topologies is proposed. The scheme involves a more adequate meshing and discretisation formalism, in conjunction with an original combination of dual space-time EM field quantities to be calculated. The pivotal field equations are elaborately discussed, with an emphasis on their computational implications.

This paper focuses on Book Marketing Campaigns, where the benefit of offering each book is calculated based on a bipartite graph (biclique). A quasi Biclique problem is assessed for obtaining the probabilities of success of a given client buy a given book, considering it had received another book as free offer. The remaining optimization decision problem can be solved following the Targeted Offers Problem in Direct Marketing Campaigns. The main objective is to maximize the feedback of customers purchases, offering books to the set of customers with the highest probability of buying others ones from its biclique and, at the same time, minimizing campaign operational costs. Given the combinatorial nature of the problem and the large volume of data, which can involve real cases with up to one million customers, metaheuristics procedures have been used as an efficient way for solving it. Here, a hybrid trajectory search based algorithm, namely GGVNS, which combines the Greedy Randomized Adaptive Search Procedures and General Variable Neighborhood Search, is used. The strategy for generating the quasi Biclique problem is described and a new instance generator for the TOPDMC is introduced. Computational results regarding the GGVNS algorithm shows it is able to find useful and profitable sets of clients. © 2017 Elsevier B.V.
