We demonstrate that structured light-based depth sensing with standard perception algorithms can enable mobile peer-to-peer interaction between humans and robots. We posit that the use of recent emerging devices for depth-based imaging can enable robot perception of non-verbal cues in human movement in the face of lighting and minor terrain variations. Toward this end, we have developed an integrated robotic system capable of person following and responding to verbal and non-verbal commands under varying lighting conditions and uneven terrain. The feasibility of our system for peer-to-peer HRI is demonstrated through two trials in indoor and outdoor environments.

P systems or membrane systems provide a high level computational modeling framework that combines the structural and dynamic aspects of biological systems in a relevant and understandable way. P systems are massively parallel distributed, and non-deterministic systems. In this paper, we describe the implementation of a simulator for the class of recognizer P systems with active membranes by using the GPU (graphics processing unit). We compare the high performance parallel simulator for the GPU to the simulator developed on a single CPU (central processing unit), and we show that the GPU is better suited than the CPU to simulate P systems due to its highly parallel nature.

A laser-stripe system for the automation of welding processes in heavy industries is presented. Conventional methods use human intervention. A new solution using only common usage computer components has been developed offering at least the same quality of performance at a low price making laser systems without human intervention attractive for cost sensitive applications in heavy industries. A new system has been developed that guarantees satisfying tracking results even when the welding gap geometry varies strongly or is distorted by noise.

We describe a new public key cryptosystem using block upper triangular matrices with elements in p, based on a generalization of the discrete logarithm problem over a finite group. The proposed cryptosystem is very efficient, requiring very few operations and also allows an EIGamal based digital signature scheme. The main benefit is that the security level is higher than other algorithms for the same key size.

Most cryptographic services and information security protocols require a dependable source of random data;pseudorandom generators are convenient and efficient for this application working as one of the basic foundation blocks on which to build the required security infrastructure. We propose a modification of a previously published matricial pseudorandom generator that significantly improves performance and security by using word packed matrices and modifying key scheduling and bit extraction schemes. The resulting generator is then successfully compared to world class standards.

In this work we propose a new method to segment range images. It automatically extracts invariant features directly from point clouds. Points belonging to such features are used as the input to improve an evolutionary approach to 3D range image registration in forensic anthropology. We use such features in the automatic reconstruction of an accurate 3D model of the skull. Our reconstruction method includes a pre-alignment stage, that uses a subset of feature points, and a refinement stage. Results are presented over a set of instances of real problems.
