Present approaches of automated language scoring lack the ability to investigate the multiple-level and several contexts of sequential features which are helpful to examine the language proficiency for the responses (monologue and dialogue). This paper aimed to identify the different levels of sequential features with respect to various contexts to evaluate the speaker's proficiency of a language. We have employed Neural Network based automated assessment. We have combined 3 attention based Bidirectional Long-Short-Term-Memory to effectively consider the three dimensions of a speech as delivery, grammar and content. The resultant outcomes demonstrated that our methodology have outperformed the traditional ways of language scoring. © 2019 IEEE.

Many real classification tasks are oriented to sequence (neighbor) labeling, that is, assigning a label to every sample of a signal while taking into account the sequentiality (or neighborhood) of the samples. This is normally approached by first filtering the data and then performing classification. In consequence, both processes are optimized separately, with no guarantee of global optimality. In this work we utilize Bayesian modeling and inference to jointly learn a classifier and estimate an optimal filterbank. Variational Bayesian inference is used to approximate the posterior distributions of all unknowns, resulting in an iterative procedure to estimate the classifier parameters and the filterbank coefficients. In the experimental section we show, using synthetic and real data, that the proposed method compares favorably with other classification/filtering approaches, without the need of parameter tuning. © 2014 IEEE.

The interaction between electromagnetic radiation and infinite plane shield having finite thickness d, placed in free space in the plane waves region depends on material/shield macroscopic parameters (¿, ¿, ¿), its thickness, radiation frequency and incidence angle. Lately, entirely new classes of materials have been developed. Knowing the characteristics and the behavior of nanomaterials inside different media creates wide opportunities for a variety of industrial applications. For that reason, a simple method to determine their electromagnetic field (EMF) attenuation properties is also necessary. This paper presents experimental methods for the investigation of nanomaterials behavior inside the EMF.

The evolution of 60 GHz wireless networks using Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) technique imposed requirements of increased processing in the baseband implementations. The current paper focuses on the design of a pipelined architecture realizing the baseband functions. The design bases on using parallel paths to achieve a throughput of 1.6 Gbps. The number of paths is configured at compile time to be 4, 8 or 16, for achieving maximal throughput by either using cutting edge technology FPGA platforms or target implementations with low cost devices. FPGA implementations validate the results. © 2011 IEEE.

With the increasing focus on healthcare, especially real-time analytics and self-diagnosis, the interest in capturing real-time patient data has increased significantly for both physicians and patients. The development of smart devices that can collect data such as blood pressure, heart rate, blood sugar level, etc., has greatly contributed to improving individual health management capabilities. However, these advances also, bring challenges such as concerns over safety, reliability, and accurate diagnosis. Problems often arise, especially when exchanging information and transmitting data. To overcome these challenges, this project uses blockchain technology to improve data transmission and security. This study explores the use of blockchain-based internet solutions by integrating blockchain into smart health-care. Additionally, the digital twin concept is used to improve diagnosis by simulating the effects of drugs on virtual objects. Based on the results of these simulations, physicians can make informed decisions about appropriate medications and accurately assess a patient's condition. A health monitoring system using digital twin technology and blockchain can be implemented to securely organize the collection of user information and enable accurate diagnosis. This integration ensures secure storage and transmission of your data and improves your health outcomes. In this paper, we study the integrating blockchain technology with Digital Twin for patient health monitoring. We showcase an interface connected to the blockchain database, specifically designed for doctors to review patient health records through patient wallet address and determine the normalcy of the patient's heart rate based on their medical data. Additionally, the interface allows doctors to predict the effect of medication on the patient's heart rate and blood pressure.

Representing Urban Geometries for Unstructured Mesh Generation

We present a robust and automatic method to generate an idealized surface geometry of a city landscape ready to be meshed for computer simulations. The city geometry is idealized for non viscous flow simulations and targets two main geometrical features: the topography and the city blocks. The procedure is fully automatic and demands no human interaction given the following source data: the city cadastre, a Digital Elevation Model (DEM) of all the target domain, and Light Detection And Ranging (LiDAR) data of the domain region covered by the cadastre. The geometry representation takes three main steps. First, a 2D mesh of the cadastre is generated, where the elements are marked according to street and block regions. Second, using a DEM of the city landscape the topography surface mesh is generated by finding the best surface mesh in the least-squares sense obtained by deforming the previous 2D mesh. Third, we extrude the block facades and we compute a planar ceiling taking into account all the buildings belonging to that city block. We describe the applicability of the geometry representation by presenting the work-flow required to generate an unstructured mesh valid for non-viscous flow or transport simulations. Finally, we illustrate the main application by obtaining a surface and tetrahedral mesh for the city of Barcelona in Spain.

Managing the IT environment of large organizations such as the Greek School Network is challenging not only due to the complexity, diversity and age of the information processing infrastructure but also due to geographic dispersion and the IT support model. Recently, the Network attempted to follow known practices for IT enterprise management;in order to organize and automate both supervision and intervention it employed centralized system management architectures. This paper records the challenges encountered in order to configure a deployable, high-end enterprise platform for the management of school labs across the Greek School Network. The paper reaches the conclusion that such systems or services are not always straightforward to deploy or scale and discusses alternative directions that can bring general purpose infrastructure management for organisations that cannot benefit from enterprise systems yet are still in need of analogous functionality. © 2012 IEEE.

Fade-in Reverberation in Multi-room Environments Using the Common-Slope Model

In multi-room environments, modelling the sound propagation is complex due to the coupling of rooms and diverse source-receiver positions. A common scenario is when the source and the receiver are in different rooms without a clear line of sight. For such source-receiver configurations, an initial increase in energy is observed, referred to as the "fade-in" of reverberation. Based on recent work of representing inhomogeneous and anisotropic reverberation with common decay times, this work proposes an extended parametric model that enables the modelling of the fade-in phenomenon. The method performs fitting on the envelopes, instead of energy decay functions, and allows negative amplitudes of decaying exponentials. We evaluate the method on simulated and measured multi-room environments, where we show that the proposed approach can now model the fade-ins that were unrealisable with the previous method. © 2024, CC BY.

The Internet of Things is revolutionizing how in-terconnected devices communicate and interact within several applications, ranging from health monitoring to smart city development. Yet, the data management in these systems is challenged by imprecision and noise inherent in Internet of Things environments. Fuzzy Rule-Based systems have emerged as a solution, aptly handling the uncertainty and complexity in decision-making processes these environments present. However, current Fuzzy Rule-Based systems implementations in Internet of Things often face limitations due to their ad-hoc nature and heavy reliance on specific hardware, thereby restricting their application in diverse and evolving Internet of Things infrastructures. In response to these challenges, we present JFML-IoT, an innovative open-source library that bridges the gap between Fuzzy Rule-Based systems and Internet of Things devices. JFML-IoT extends the JFML library, implementing the IEEE Std 1855-2016 for Fuzzy Markup Language and adapting its capabilities to the unique demands of the Internet of Things paradigm. This library not only facilitates remote Fuzzy Rule-Based systems deployment but also excels in generating source code for Internet of Things microcontrollers, thus enabling a new level of hardware abstraction and versatility. Our approach significantly enhances the scalability, flexibility, and integration of Fuzzy Rule-Based systems within varied Internet of Things systems. To demonstrate the practical application and effectiveness of JFML-IoT, we conducted a case study in a real-world environment. This case study showcases how JFML-IoT can improve data management in Internet of Things systems, offering scalable, efficient, and adaptable solutions that are critical in modern Internet of Things applications.

Service quality commitments in cloud service provisioning are typically described in Service Level Agreements (SLA). Service availability is always a major parameter to be included in such SLAs. and the cloud provider is bounded to guarantee a minimum availability value, for which current cloud monitoring systems employ a naive estimator. In this paper a new estimation method is proposed for service availability, which is based on the bootstrap technique and employs a non-parametric statistical hypothesis test. Through Monte Carlo simulation, the method is shown to be much more accurate than the naive one under three stochastic models for the durations of operating and outage periods, exhibiting a Type I error probability lower than 1 % in most cases, while the naive estimator yields error probabilities around 40%.
