One of the main goals of systems biology models in a health-care context is to individualise models in order to compute patient-specific predictions for the time evolution of species (e.g., hormones) concentrations. In this paper we present a statistical model checking based approach that, given an inter-patient model and a few clinical measurements, computes a value for the model parameter vector (model individualisation) that, with high confidence, is a global minimum for the function evaluating the mismatch between the model predictions and the available measurements. We evaluate effectiveness of the proposed approach by presenting experimental results on using the GynCycle model (describing the feedback mechanisms regulating a number of reproductive hormones) to compute patient-specific predictions for the time evolution of blood concentrations of E2 (Estradiol), P4 (Progesterone), FSH (Follicle-Stimulating Hormone) and LH (Luteinizing Hormone) after a certain number of clinical measurements.

The optimal trajectory-tracking control of a Tri-TiltRotor Unmanned Aerial Vehicle is the subject of this paper. This specific UAV design possesses the capability to control the orientation of its main rotors, thus enabling operation in both the Vertical Take-Off and Landing as well as the Fixed-Wing flight mode configuration. The translational controller developed is based on a Linear-Quadratic tracking scheme. Additionally to the proposed controller, the newly introduced capability for rotor-tilting, and thus thrust vectoring, as provided by this design is proposed for its utilization in the control of the longitudinal degree-of-freedom of the UAV. Simulation and experimental results are presented, demonstrating both the overall proposed controller's efficiency, as well as the clear advantage gained by the aforementioned proposed strategy, with regard to the controlled system's longitudinal control performance.

We propose a decomposition framework for the distributed optimization of general nonconvex sum-utility functions arising in the design of wireless multi-user interfering systems. Our main contributions are: i) the development of the first provably convergent Jacobi best-response algorithm, where all users simultaneously solve a suitably convexified version of the original sum-utility optimization problem;ii) the derivation of a general dynamic pricing mechanism that provides a unified view of existing pricing schemes that are based, instead, on heuristics;and iii) a framework that can be easily particularized to well-known applications, giving rise to practical algorithms that outperform all existing ad-hoc methods proposed for very specific problems. Our framework contains as special cases well-known gradient algorithms for nonconvex sum-utility problems, and many block-coordinate descents schemes for convex functions.

Content providers are often accused of free riding by exploiting the network to distribute their content without sharing their revenues with the network providers. In order to assess the correctness of such an accusation, we set up a game-theoretical model, where content providers releasing their contents for free and under the payment of a usage-based charge are both present. In this model, the network provider charges both content providers a usage-based charge (network charge) as well. The network provider and the paid content provider act as the players, using the respective retail prices as strategic leverages. Both the cases where network charges are set by the network provider and by a regulatory authority are examined. The Nash equilibrium is determined in a closed form. In a typical scenario, the solution represented by zero network charges maximizes both the network provider's revenues and the social welfare: free riding for content providers appears as the best choice under both the viewpoints of the selfish network provider and the regulatory authority.
