Characterization and construction of optimal binary linear codes with one-dimensional hull

The hull of a linear code over finite fields is the intersection of the code and its dual, and linear codes with small hulls have applications in computational complexity and information protection. Linear codes with the smallest hull are LCD codes, which have been widely studied. Recently, several papers were devoted to related LCD codes over finite fields with size greater than 3 to linear codes with one-dimensional or higher dimensional hull. Therefore, an interesting and non-trivial problem is to study binary linear codes with one-dimensional hull with connection to binary LCD codes. The objective of this paper is to study some properties of binary linear codes with one-dimensional hull, and establish their relation with binary LCD codes. Some interesting inequalities are thus obtained. Using such a characterization, we study the largest minimum distance done(n, k) among all binary linear [n, k] codes with one-dimensional hull. We determine the largest minimum distances done(n, n − k) for k ≤ 5 and done(n, k) for k ≤ 4 or 14 ≤ n ≤ 24. Integrated photonic gadgets play a key function in lots of fields. The process of designing silicon optical devices mostly relies on experience to manually adjust the subtle parameters, which is laborious and ineffective. The proposed inverse design algorithms can simplify the design process of silicon optical devices, improve the design efficiency, and realize multifunctional compact devices. In this paper, two inverse design based methods are proposed to design terahertz band wavelength division multiplexer(WDM). One is based on topology optimization to design a 4-channel ultra-wideband WDM and the other employs a direct binary search technique to create a 3-channel ultra-wideband terahertz WDM, both of which have high transmission, low interference and high integration. Multifunctional photonics devices are predicted to be increasingly used in modern photonic integrated circuits due to these advantages.

Hand hygiene is a standard six-step hand-washing action proposed by the World Health Organization (WHO). However, there is no good way to supervise medical staff to do hand hygiene, which brings the potential risk of disease spread. Existing action assessment works usually make an overall quality prediction on an entire video. However, the internal structures of hand hygiene action are important in hand hygiene assessment. Therefore, we propose a novel fine-grained learning framework to perform step segmentation and key action scorer in a joint manner for accurate hand hygiene assessment. Existing temporal segmentation methods usually employ multi-stage convolutional network to improve the segmentation robustness, but easily lead to over-segmentation due to the lack of the long-range dependence. To address this issue, we design a multi-stage convolution-transformer network for step segmentation. Based on the observation that each hand-washing step involves several key actions which determine the hand-washing quality, we design a set of key action scorers to evaluate the quality of key actions in each step. In addition, there lacks a unified dataset in hand hygiene assessment. Therefore, under the supervision of medical staff, we contribute a video dataset that contains 300 video sequences with fine-grained annotations. Extensive experiments on the dataset suggest that our method well assesses hand hygiene videos and achieves outstanding performance. Copyright © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

This paper proposes a wide-band low-profile high-gain microstrip slot antenna loaded with a mushroom-type metasurface structure. By directly loading the metamaterial structure on the upper surface of the slot antenna, low profile loading characteristics are realized and the antenna bandwidth is expanded. In order to obtain an absorber with high absorption efficiency and wide absorption band, a metamaterial structure by Metal-ENZ-Insulator-Metal (MEIM) is designed, and its absorption in the 130-230 THz band is calculated using the simulation software frequency-domain solver. By rotating the upper metal layer and the lower hollow layer, the simulation results can be slightly disturbed. In addition, the introduction of the epsilon-near-zero (ENZ) media will also affect the bandwidth and absorption of the absorber. Therefore, the high absorption and wide bandwidth of the absorber are achieved by the size of the structure, the rotation angle of the corresponding structure,and the clever application of the ITO layer.

Recently, b-symbol codes are proposed to protect against b-symbol errors in b-symbol read channels. It is an interesting subject of study to consider the complete b-symbol weight distribution of cyclic codes since b-symbol metric is a generalization for Hamming metric. The complete b-symbol Hamming weight distribution of irreducible codes is known in only a few cases. In this paper, we give a complete b-symbol Hamming weight distribution of a class of irreducible codes with two nonzero b-symbol Hamming weights. © 2021, CC0.

As revealed by the no free lunch theorem, no single algorithm can outperform any others on all classes of optimization problems. To tackle this issue, methods for recommending an existing algorithm for solving given problems have been proposed. However, existing recommendation methods for continuous optimization suffer from low practicability and transferability, mainly due to the difficulty in extracting features that can effectively describe the problem structure and lack of data for training a recommendation model. This work proposes a generic recommender system to address the above two challenges. First, a novel method is proposed to represent an analytic objective function of a continuous optimization problem as a tree, which is directly used as the features of the problem. For black-box optimization problems whose objective function is unknown, a symbolic regressor is adopted to estimate the tree structure. Second, a large number of benchmark problems are randomly created based on the proposed tree representation, providing an abundant amount of training data with various levels of difficulty. By employing a deep recurrent neural network, a recommendation model is trained to recommend a most suitable metaheuristic algorithm for white- or black-box optimization, making a significant step forward towards fully automated algorithm recommendation for continuous optimization. Experimental results on 100 000 benchmark problems show that the proposed recommendation model achieves considerably better performance than existing ones, and exhibits high transferability to real-world problems.
