Performer: A High-Performance Global-Local Model-Augmented with Dual Network Interaction Mechanism

In deep learning, Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) focus on local information through convolutional kernels, while transformers attend to global information using self-attention mechanisms. The union of these distinct approaches enables a more comprehensive extraction of image features. However, the feature map dimensions of CNN and Transformer differ, leading to dimension mismatch issues when combining these architectures. Additionally, the parameter size of the hybrid model integrating both architectures remains large, making it difficult to train. To further augmenting the interpretation of complex image patterns, we present Performer, a dual-network architecture that seamlessly combines CNNs and transformers, resulting in a novel and efficient representation learning model. In the Performer model, we innovate by devising a unique interaction methodology for CNN and transformer architectures to enhance the image feature extraction capabilities mutually. To counteract issue of dimensionality mismatch, we also introduce a refined transformer block, a advancement over the transformer block of ViT. To validate the effectiveness of Performer, we conduct extensive experiments on both classification and segmentation tasks. Performer achieve an accuracy of 83.37% on the ImageNet-200 dataset. For semantic segmentation, Performer excels on the CamVid and Hippocampus datasets. On CamVid, our model achieves a mean Intersection over Union (mIoU) of 63.27% and Pixel Accuracy of 92.11%, demonstrating superior performance in capturing fine details and handling complex scenes effectively. Depression has become a major global public health challenge. Social media texts reflect users’ emotional and psychological states, providing a valuable data source for depression detection through natural language analysis. However, current research still faces limitations in modeling the collab.rative representation of user texts and dynamic behaviors. To address this, we propose MVDep, a model that integrates multi-view features to enhance social text representation for depression detection. Specifically, we enhance text representation by investigating depression from multi-view, including social media texts, user profiles, and social behaviors, enabling more effective depression detection. First, we conduct initial filtering of social media texts using the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5), and then screen out the uncertain domain of data samples based on the three-way decision (3WD). Next, we extract quantified user profiles and social behavioral features to enhance the representation of depression tendencies for uncertain domain samples. Finally, we fuse the multi-view features derived from social media texts, user profiles and social behaviors, improving the model’s ability to detect depression. We evaluate our model on the SWDD dataset, demonstrating its superiority over state-of-the-art baseline models in depression detection tasks. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

A Decentralized Threshold Credential Management with Fine-Grained Authentication for VANETs

In Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks (VANETs), vehicles must authenticate their identities before accessing services. However, existing authentication schemes based on anonymous credentials still face single-point failure in multi-authority scenarios. In addition, in traditional anonymous credential schemes, the public key of credential authority is used directly to verify the credential, which may increase the risk of vehicle privacy being misused. To address these issues, we propose a decentralized threshold credential management system with fine-grained authentication for VANETs. The decentralized credential management architecture is proposed for VANETs with multiple credential authorities, each credential authority consists of multiple credential managers who issue credentials using the threshold mechanism, effectively solving the single-point failure. Based on this architecture, we design a fine grained, privacy-preserving authentication scheme that allows vehicles to autonomously perform selective attribute disclosure, credential aggregation, and randomization before requesting verification from the Cloud Service Provider, thereby achieving a balance between privacy preservation and authentication efficiency. The security proofs and analysis show that our scheme satisfies the target security properties. Performance evaluations indicate that our scheme enables efficient, flexible credential management and authentication in VANETs while ensuring privacy preservation. © 2005-2012 IEEE.

Knowledge tracing (KT) is a crucial task in online learning, aimed at tracing and predicting each student's knowledge states throughout their learning process. Over the past decade, it has garnered widespread attention due to it provides the potential for more tailored and adaptive online learning experiences. Although most current KT methodologies emphasize optimizing network structures to enhance predictive accuracy for future student performance, they often neglect anomalous interactions in students' learning processes, which may arise from low data quality (i.e., inferior question quality) and abnormal student behaviors (i.e., guessing and mistakes). To this end, in this paper, we propose a novel framework, termed HD-KT, designed to enhance the robustness of existing KT methodologies with Hybrid learning interactions Denoising approach. Specifically, we introduce two detectors for anomalous learning interactions, namely knowledge state-guided anomaly detector and student profile-guided anomaly detector. In the first detection module, we design a sequential autoencoder to identify anomalous learning interactions by detecting atypical student knowledge states. In the second module, we incorporate an attention mechanism by modeling a student's long-term profile to capture irregular interactions. Extensive experiments on four real-world benchmark datasets have decisively shown our HD-KT markedly boosts the robustness of numerous prevailing KT models, consequently increasing the accuracy of future student performance predictions. Additionally, our case studies highlight the versatility of HD-KT in addressing diverse downstream tasks, such as exercise quality analysis and learning behavior-based student clustering. © 2024 ACM.

To achieve high precision direction-of-arrival estimation of MIMO arrays in highly coupled environments, based on the difference and cooperative array principles, the uniform array fitted with 5 base layer array and the uniform array fitted with 6 base layer array were used as transmitting arrays, and with the addition of 1 base layer layer sparse array as receiving array, two sparse multi-in multiple-out arrays were designed for single-base radar, which have the characteristics of low coupling of transmitting array and high freedom of receiving array.

A double-layer stacked patch filtering antenna with broadband circular polarization performance is proposed in this paper. The main patch consists of a corner-truncated square patch with two shorting pins. The designed two shorting pins are located in the main patch and the upper stacked patch structure are introduced and designed, which can gain two radiation nulls for realizing the filtering effect of the proposed antenna. The circularly polarized (CP) operation is realized by corner-truncated square patch. In addition, to increase the axial ratio (AR) bandwidth, a rectangular slot is carved on the ground plane. The simulated results indicate that the researched antenna can provide the impedance bandwidth of 20.58% (2.68-3.29 GHz) and AR bandwidth of 9.5% (2.80-3.08 GHz). Moreover, The average realized gain of the simulation is 6.48 dBic over bandwidth.

In this work, we propose a no-reference image quality evaluation approach, aiming to solve the problem that the traditional convolutional neural network is insufficient to express the global information of the image. Therefore, in order to make the captured image features have the coherence of global context information, we combine a Transformer structure widely used in NLP (natural language processing) with the traditional CNN to realize the attention mechanism in the human visual perception characteristics. Firstly, the self-attention mechanism of Transformer is used to learn the global representation of the image from the multi-layer features extracted from different levels of CNN. Additionally, to forecast the ultimate image quality score, the global and local attributes are combined. Finally, the proposed algorithm is evaluated on three public datasets commonly used in CSIQ [1], TID2013 [2] and LIVE [3]. Compared with eight traditional no-reference image quality evaluation algorithms and five methods based on deep learning, the proposed algorithm achieves competitive results. © 2023 IEEE.

Reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) is an emerging technology for improving the performance of wireless communications. In this letter, a joint Squared-Sine function and atomic norm minimization (ANM), denoted as SS-ANM, is proposed for passive sensing assisted by RIS in wireless communication systems interfered by a wireless access point (AP). The proposed joint optimization is used to estimate the targets’ direction-of-arrival (DOA), employing the spatial domain sparsity of the received signals. The optimal solution is achieved from the alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM). With the help of the Squared-Sine function as the cost function, the proposed solution provides better estimation accuracy under various noises besides Gaussian noise, and meanwhile requires a lower computation complexity. Simulation results verify the superiority of the proposed joint minimization over existing DOA estimation methods. © 2023, CC BY.

A Novel Underdetermined Blind Source Separation Algorithm of Frequency-hopping signals via Time-frequency Analysis

To address the significant performance degradation of conventional underdetermined blind source separation algorithms for frequency-hopping (FH) signals under time-frequency (TF) overlapping conditions, this paper presents a novel three-stage scheme based on the TF distribution of FH signals. In the first stage, key parameters of the FH signal are estimated using a TF binary graph. In the second step, the initial mixing matrix is estimated for non-overlapping and overlapping carrier frequencies employing density peaks clustering and tensor decomposition methods, respectively. In the third step, the final mixing matrix, directions of arrival (DOA), and source signals are estimated using the expectation-maximization algorithm within the nonnegative matrix factorization model. Finally, different segments of the FH signals are spliced together based on the DOAs of different source signals. Comprehensive experimental results demonstrate the superior performance of the proposed algorithm compared to state-of-the-art algorithms. Even at a signal-to-noise ratio of 5 dB, the correlation coefficient of the estimated source signals can still reach 0.91. © 2023, CC BY.
