Unsupervised Learning of Gaussian Mixture Model with Application to Image Segmentation

Density estimation via Gaussian mixture modeling has been successfully applied to image segmentation, speech processing and other fields relevant to clustering analysis and Probability density function (PDF) modeling. Finite Gaussian mixture model is usually used in practice and the selection of number of mixture components is a significant problem in its application. For example, in image segmentation, it is the donation of the number of segmentation regions. The determination of the optimal model order therefore is a problem that achieves widely attention. This paper proposes a degenerating model algorithm that could simultaneously select the optimal number of mixture components and estimate the parameters for Gaussian mixture model. Unlike traditional model order selection method, it does not need to select the optimal number of components from a set of candidate models. Based on the investigation on the property of the elliptically contoured distributions of generalized multivariate analysis, it select the correct model order in a different way that needs less operation times and less sensitive to the initial value of EM. The experimental results show the effectiveness of the algorithm.

This paper proposes a fault location and phase selection method for the distribution network containing IIDG based on online active detection, utilizing online active detection. In this method, the characteristic harmonic current injection control strategy based on d- and q-axis control is obtained by analyzing the structure, control strategy, and short-circuit current of IIDG. During a fault, the distributed power supply injects characteristic harmonic current into line, adapting its magnitude with the short-circuit current's size. By detecting the difference in harmonic current content rate for both ends of the fault point, the method achieves online location and line selection of fault points. A 10 kV IIDG distribution network model is simulated by using PSCAD to validate the feasibility and accuracy of the proposed fault location and phase selection method. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

In order to solve the problem of low accuracy of traditional fault location method when the feeder of distribution network contains load branches, this paper proposes an accurate fault location method for single-phase grounding fault of feeder in distribution network with load branches based on fault secondary discrimination. By analyzing the feeder fault recording data, the fault point is identified twice to determine whether the fault point occurs on the load branch. According to different fault location, the voltage of the fault point is calculated by using the voltage and current of the two ends of the fault section. The voltage of the calculated fault point should be equal. The objective function of the minimum voltage difference of the fault point is written, and the fault distance x under the minimum voltage difference is obtained. The simulation model of 10KV distribution network is built on PSCAD, which verifies the accuracy of the ranging algorithm and has certain ability to resist transition resistance, which has certain engineering practice value. © 2023 IEEE.

A distributed fault-tolerant formation control law is designed in this paper for multi-agent systems under external disturbances and actuator faults including time-varying loss of effectiveness faults. The initial position of each agent is already on a circle and the control purpose is to form a desired formation on this circle. Based on this local information, a distributed adaptive formation control law is designed by employing the congelation of variables method to deal with time-varying actuator faults. Finally, a simulation example is given to verify the effectiveness of the adaptive fault-tolerant control design method. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Alarm systems serve as the first layer of protection for modern process industries to monitor industrial processes and ensure operational safety. However, the presence of alarm floods is common in alarm systems and may distract operators from critical alarms. To provide decision supports to operators during alarm flood situations, alarm prediction becomes a potential effective solution. The difficulty of alarm prediction lies in how to achieve high prediction accuracy over long-term consecutive alarm monitoring periods, including situations with either high or low alarm rates. Consequently, this paper presents an industrial alarm prediction method for both alarm flood periods and non-alarm flood periods. Specifically, a strategy of combining fixed-length and fixed-time sliding windows is designed. Further, an alarm prediction model based on Informer is proposed for alarm prediction under different alarm rates. A case study is presented to prove the validity of the proposed alarm prediction method. © 2024 IEEE.

In this paper, the master-slave synchronization issue of chaotic Lur' e systems with time-varying-delay feedback control is investigated. Firstly, the synchronization problem of chaotic system is transformed into the stability problem of chaotic synchronization error system, which is studied based on Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional (LKF) method. Secondly, a novel augmented LKF with more cross terms that related to time-varying delay is proposed. Based on the application of the relaxation integral inequality and the reciprocally convex matrix inequality, an improved synchronization criterion is derived by using the cubic function negative-determination lemma. Finally, a numerical simulation example demonstrates the effectiveness and advantages of the proposed methods. © 2023 Technical Committee on control Theory, Chinese Association of Automation.

A new Gaussian approximate (GA) filter for nonlinear systems with one-step randomly delayed measurement and correlated noise is proposed in this paper. Firstly, a general framework of Gaussian filter is designed under Gaussian assumption on the conditional density. Then, the implementation of Gaussian filter is transformed into the approximation of the Gaussian weighted integral in the proposed frame. Secondly, a new cubature Kalman filtering(CKF)algorithm is developed on the basis of the spherical-radial cubature rule. The efficiency and superiority of the proposed method are illustrated in the numerical examples. © 2023 Technical Committee on control Theory, Chinese Association of Automation.

In this paper, a novel hybrid model is proposed for online prediction of rate of penetration (ROP) in drilling process, which including two parts (online data pre-processing and online hybrid modeling). In the first part, threshold filtering and Savitzky Golay (SG) filtering are both employed to enhance the quality of drilling data considering the expert experience and data characteristics. In the next part, a novel hybrid model with error compensation is established, which is combined the Bingham sub-model and gradient boosting decision tree (GBDT) sub-model. To better capture the dynamic changes of ROP, the hybrid model is updated with moving window strategy. Finally, compared simulation results with well-known ROP prediction models indicate the efficiency of the hybrid model. © 2023 IEEE.

To address the lack of effective cooperative control of each inertia support resource, the principles of cooperative inertia control in the power system with a high percentage of renewable energies are studied and the problems of cooperative inertia control are summarized. To make the wind turbine generator (WTG) participate in inertia response based on rotor kinetic energy method and the photovoltaic (PV) unit participate in inertia response based on capacitive energy storage method. The inertia response stage enables the energy storage system (ESS) based on sag control to collaborate with the WTG and PV unit for inertia support, and the frequency recovery stage enables ESS based on fuzzy control to improve the frequency response performance. The fuzzy control rules are formulated to propose a virtual inertia cooperative control method for the WTG, PV unit, and ESS. A case study is conducted to verify the effectiveness of the proposed strategy. © 2023 IEEE.
