Synchronously realizing high spatial resolution and precise location for fiber fault attenuation event detection

Attenuation events are common fault types in optical fiber links, which are very important to identify and accurately locate them with high resolution. However, research on achieving high spatial resolution for fiber fault event localization in the field of optical time-domain reflectometry (OTDR) mainly focuses on reflection events;the precise identification of attenuation events is rarely reported. A chaotic OTDR technique based on attenuation extraction–correlation compression integrative demodulation (AECCID) is proposed to realize high spatial resolution and high-precision localization of attenuation events in optical fiber links. The positioning process and principle of AECCID are analyzed and verified by simulation. The location and length of the attenuation event are precisely recognized according to the demodulated positions of the two correlation peaks. The spatial resolution is only determined by the full width at half maximum (FWHM) of the autocorrelation curve of chaotic lasers, which breaks through the limitation of wide pulse width on spatial resolution. The proof-of-concept experimental results show that when the pulse width is 1 µs and the detector bandwidth is 130 MHz, the spatial resolution is improved from 100 m to 0.87 m compared with conventional single-pulse OTDR. © 2025 Optica Publishing Group. The paper introduces a Koopman bilinear model predictive control (KBMPC) as a local planner for smart wheelchair systems. This approach leverages the Koopman Operator to streamline the nonlinear terms in MPC, aiming to achieve superior real-time performance. In particular, we employ the Extended Dynamic Mode Decomposition (EDMD) method to approximate the infinite dimensional Koopman operator. To tackle the challenge of designing lifting functions, we systematically utilize the derivatives of known nonlinear structures to methodically derive lifting functions. This systematic approach facilitates the identification of a precise bilinear model. Next, we formulate the corresponding Koopman bilinear MPC problem. Finally, an iterative algorithm is employed to efficiently solve the KBMPC problem. This method linearizes the bilinear model around estimations and iteratively solves the resulting quadratic programming problem to refine estimations. This allows KBMPC to function as a real-time local planner for smart wheelchairs. The prediction of nonlinear terms shows that the identified Koopman bilinear model increases the prediction accuracy. Furthermore, experiments demonstrate the advantages of the designed KBMPC local planner, highlighting its superior real-time performance and predictive capabilities.

This article addresses an adaptive tracking control problem for uncertain high-order fully actuated (HOFA) systems with unknown parameters and disturbances. Under the framework of backstepping, the unknown parameter is estimated and the external disturbance is handled by using adaptive control and H ∞ technique, respectively. Moreover, the Levant differentiator is employed to reduce the computation burden. Additionally, the boundedness of signals in the closed-loop system is proven using the Lyapunov theory. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed scheme is validated through the simulation study.

The rapid growth of wind power brings uncertainty and fluctuation and it is crucial to improve the flexibility of power system. In this paper, a reduced disjunctive model (RDM) for transmission expansion planning is proposed. The proposed model considers unit commitment and optimal transmission switching simultaneously in order to improve the flexibility and wind power accommodation capacity. Then the RDM reduces the number of variables compared with the traditional disjunctive model (DM). Finally, numerical results of case studies indicate that the proposed model saves the total cost, decreases the wind curtailment and load shedding, and improves the computational efficiency. © 2021 IEEE.

This paper introduces a 3D point cloud sequence learning model based on inconsistent spatio-temporal propagation for LiDAR odometry, termed DSLO. It consists of a pyramid structure with a spatial information reuse strategy, a sequential pose initialization module, a gated hierarchical pose refinement module, and a temporal feature propagation module. First, spatial features are encoded using a point feature pyramid, with features reused in successive pose estimations to reduce computational overhead. Second, a sequential pose initialization method is introduced, leveraging the high-frequency sampling characteristic of LiDAR to initialize the LiDAR pose. Then, a gated hierarchical pose refinement mechanism refines poses from coarse to fine by selectively retaining or discarding motion information from different layers based on gate estimations. Finally, temporal feature propagation is proposed to incorporate the historical motion information from point cloud sequences, and address the spatial inconsistency issue when transmitting motion information embedded in point clouds between frames. Experimental results on the KITTI odometry dataset and Argoverse dataset demonstrate that DSLO outperforms state-of-the-art methods, achieving at least a 15.67% improvement on RTE and a 12.64% improvement on RRE, while also achieving a 34.69% reduction in runtime compared to baseline methods. Nonlinear dynamics bring difficulties to controller design for control-affine systems such as tractor-trailer vehicles, especially when the parameters in the dynamics are unknown. To address this constraint, we propose a derivative-based lifting function construction method, show that the corresponding infinite dimensional Koopman bilinear model over the lifting function is equivalent to the original control-affine system. Further, we analyze the propagation and bounds of state prediction errors caused by the truncation in derivative order. The identified finite dimensional Koopman bilinear model would serve as predictive model in the next step. Koopman Bilinear Model Predictive control (K-BMPC) is proposed to solve the trajectory tracking problem. We linearize the bilinear model around the estimation of the lifted state and control input. Then the bilinear Model Predictive control problem is approximated by a quadratic programming problem. Further, the estimation is updated at each iteration until the convergence is reached. Moreover, we implement our algorithm on a tractor-trailer system, taking into account the longitudinal and side slip effects. The open-loop simulation shows the proposed Koopman bilinear model captures the dynamics with unknown parameters and has good prediction performance. Closed-loop tracking results show the proposed K-BMPC exhibits elevated tracking precision with the commendable computational efficiency. The experimental results demonstrate the feasibility of K-BMPC.

Andrew's Sine Estimator (ASE) has recently been used to invent adaptive filtering, which can combat more kind of noises than conventional estimators. Inspired by the LMS and its sparse forms, normalization and proportionate ASE algorithms with Lawson constraints are constructed with the respective given names of Lawson normalization ASE (LNASE) and Lawson proportionate NASE (LPNASE). Simulations are performed to analyze the performance of these algorithms under impulsive noise. © 2022 IEEE.
