Fine-tuning AI models for enhanced consistency and precision in chemistry educational assessments

Integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into educational assessments represents a paradigm shift, especially in STEM subjects such as chemistry, which require complex problem-solving and written feedback. This study focuses on the effects of fine-tuning on each of the four AI models—Gemini 1.5, Gemini 1.0, BERT, and XLNet—and their performance on chemistry tasks. The models were implemented using three evaluation methods: Seq2Seq for Sodium Reaction Grading, a Regression Task for Overall Grading, and Attention-Based Grading for Key Steps Grading. The fine-tuning process significantly improved the models' accuracy, precision, and stability. Gemini 1.5 outperformed the other models across all three metrics, with accuracy increasing from 80 % to 89.5 % and TPR from 0.73 to 0.93, whereas Gemini 1.0 achieved TPR gains from 0.69 to 0.89. BERT and XLNet, which had substantially lower baselines, also showed significant improvements, particularly in identifying fundamental steps in the evaluation. These advances highlight the critical role of fine-tuning in refining AI model output to align with expert grading standards, ensuring accuracy and reliability in assessment. The results confirm that fine-tuning is essential in preparing AI models for teaching applications, particularly for complex tasks such as chemistry evaluation, thus enabling scalable solutions. The findings of this study provide further justification for the wider adoption of fine-tuned AI models to improve the reliability, scalability, and effectiveness of grading systems in STEM education. © 2025

A study on the use of telescopes has been conducted on high school students. The purpose of this experiment is to find out how much influence the use of a telescope has on student's understanding and learning motivation. In this experiment, the common ground or terrestrial telescopes were used. The experiment used the Class Action Research (PTK) method. Cooling Engine is one application of the laws of thermodynamics. Cooling machines such as refrigerators are a necessity for everyone. Thermoelectric which has a Peltier effect can be used as an electronic component to cool objects. This research is an experimental research and the object of research is a mini-size refrigerator with thermoelectric. The purpose of this research is to analyse the performance coefficient of the mini refrigerator that has been made. The research method used is a literature study and data are taken by measuring the temperature produced from the refrigerator. The results obtained from this study are that the refrigerator can reduce the system room temperature from 28.5 °C to 13.6 13 within 10 minutes. In the next experiment with a time of one hour, the temperature in the system room was lowered to 7.7 °C. After measuring the outside temperature in the container (reservoir) and inside the refrigerator, the coefficient of performance is 0.3. The coefficient number is relatively low, because the higher the number obtained, the more efficient the refrigerator is made. © 2022 Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd

The purpose of developing this digital calorimeter is to make a temperature measuring device using Arduino Uno that can be used for physics practicum at the Physics Laboratory of the University of Mataram. This tool is designed according to the function of the calorimeter. Calorimeter is a tool used to determine the heat capacity, specific heat capacity, and latent heat capacity of an object or material. In making this digital calorimeter, the ds18b20 sensor is used to measure the temperature of the liquid, when the sensor is inserted into the calorimeter, it will be able to read the temperature rise that occurs in it. The graph is obtained from the relationship between time (t) and heat energy (Q), it can be seen that the longer the liquid is given electrical energy, the higher the heat generated. © 2022 Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd

Learning aids are tools used by teachers in learning and prevent verbalization in students. The purpose of this research is to make simple earth telescopes as visual aids for optical practicum in schools. The method used is the experimental method, namely analyzing, designing, making and testing the props made. The subjects of the research were 17 students of physics education FKIP University of Mataram. The binoculars test saw the object of letters and writing with the font Times New Roman 350 at a distance of 50 meters and 100 meters. The results showed that the object was clearly visible with the satisfaction level of using the teaching aids a score of 3.71 the criteria were satisfied and suitable for use. The use of simple earth telescopes is suitable for use in optical practicums in schools. Teachers are expected to be able to create and develop teaching aids to improve students' understanding of concepts. © 2022 Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

The impact of the Covid-19 pandemic requires that every employee in a university maintains his health. One of the most important body parts to maintain during this pandemic is body temperature. The purpose of this study was to develop a non-contact digital thermometer to measure the body temperature of FKIP employees, Mataram University. The digital thermometer development method starts from literature studies, tool specifications, hardware design, software design and thermometer testing to measure employee body temperature in the morning and afternoon. The results of the digital thermometer test showed that the employee's body temperature in the morning with an average of 33.36 °C and in the afternoon with an average of 33.96 °C. So it can be concluded that the Mataram University FKIP employees who came to work did not experience Covid-19 symptoms. © 2022 Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

In the last 100 years, river water pollution has continued to increase along with industrial, agricultural, and human population developments. Various attempts are being carried out continuously to characterize river water quality. The status of water quality needs to be determined as an effort to monitor water systems for clean water need and the biota life need. The purpose of this study was to examine the water quality status of the Bekasi River based on Physics parameters (Temperature, Turbidity, TDS, Salinity, and Electrical Conductivity) and Chemistry parameters (pH, COD, content of Iron, Nitrite, Zinc, Chromium, and Copper), as an effort to river water pollution monitoring. Parameter measurements were carried out from August to September 2022 at six observation locations along the Bekasi River. The procedure for collecting samples refers to SNI 03-7016-2004. The data obtained were then compared with water quality standards based on applicable government regulations and analyzed using the STORET method. The index calculation results show that the six locations are lightly polluted, with a negative score of -8. Based on these results, the waters of the Bekasi River in the October-September period belong to class B with the "Good"category. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

This study originated from students who had difficulty understanding the material of flat-sided shapes. Students often make mistakes in solving flat-sided shapes, including errors in calculations, and students having difficulty in visualizing images, especially in the material of flat-sided shapes. Also, many students still entered the formula incorrectly. One way to overcome this problem is to develop media-based interactive learning with a constructivist approach. This study aims to produce constructivism-based interactive mathematics learning media that is valid and practical on flat-sided building materials for class VIII junior high school students. This study describes the effectiveness of constructivist-based interactive learning media that is valid and practical flat-sided building materials for junior high school students VIII. The type of research used is development research using the Plomp model, which consists of three phases: the initial investigation phase, the development phase or prototyping, and the assessment phase. The preliminary research needs analysis, curriculum analysis, student analysis, and concept analysis were carried out. At the stage of developing or making a prototype, the researcher designs constructivism by paying attention to content, language, presentation, and graphics. Media-based interactive learning constructivism is validated by experts in mathematics, media, technology, and language education. Practicality is seen through the analysis of the implementation of learning observations, interviews, and student and teacher response questionnaires. Effectiveness is seen through the results of the analysis of student activities and learning outcomes. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

This research aims to develop the learning device in the form of RPP (lesson plan) and LKPD (student's worksheets) based on problem-based Learning (PBL) for the material of Linear Equation System of Three Variables for tenth-grade senior high school student, which are valid, practical, and effective. The type of this research is development research. This research used a Plomp's model, which consists of three phases, namely preliminary research, prototyping phase, and assessment phase. This research has not been produced the learning devices that meet the criteria valid, practical, and effective. The result of the lesson plan and students' worksheets validation sheet showed that is developed was not valid. The learning devices are not also practical yet. Influenza-Like Illness(ILI)constitutes a significant global health concern characterized by its high infec-tion rates and widespread distribution *** influenza viruses,primarily types A and B,are primary contributors to ILI cases,other respiratory viruses also play a role in its ***,Indonesia's largest and densely populated city,has consistently reported a notable weekly number of ILI cases from 2016 to ***,this pattern of cases is irregular and does not exhibit a direct association with seasonal climate *** response to this complex scenario,we have developed a SLIR mathematical model featuring a cumulative generating operator in the form of a multiple-terms sigmoid function,obtained from weekly cumulative data to derive model solutions.A total of 12 terms within the sigmoid function yielded a decent fit to the actual data spanning 339 *** correlation analysis unveiled distinct temporal relationships within the model,revealing an 8-week time lag between the dynamics of the infection rate and the latent compartment,along with a 2-week lag marking the incubation period between the latent and infected ***,the effective reproduction number displayed recurrent fluctuations around a threshold of 1,indicating the endemic characteristics where infection persists within the *** in-depth comprehension of ILI trans-mission dynamics and effective reproduction numbers plays a significant role in devising control mea-sures and informed policy-making decisions.
