Some results on the conceptual change, indicated a discriminate between alternative and scientific conceptions. This could be represented as a medium conceptions, called the intermediate conceptions. Researches on the electromagnetic wave sub-concept generally assessed based on modern physics conceptions, on the other hand it needs to be assessed based on the concept of electricity and magnetism. This research aims to identify and describe category of intermediate conception of third year physics education students in electromagnetic wave sub-concepts. This research used descriptive method. The subjects of this research were 73 third year students in a University of Teacher Training at Bandung. Data collection have been done by essay test and interview. The analyzed data shows that 77% of the students are on 'lateral intermediate conception'category and none of them were on 'naïve physics'. Other results showed that the students have difficulty on describing, explaining, interpreting qualitatively about electromagnetic wave sub-concepts. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

This research aims to explore the implementation of Solar Photovoltaic (PV) as a potential renewable energy in environmentally friendly project-based physics learning to improve understanding of the principles of physics in solar photovoltaic and awareness of environmental issues and climate change. The project-based learning (PjBL) learning model is applied to provide a deep and meaningful learning experience because students are required to be actively involved in designing, developing, and evaluating Solar Photovoltaic projects. This research was conducted using the literature review method on several articles related to project-based physics learning and solar photovoltaic as renewable energy. From several articles obtained, identification, evaluation, and synthesis were carried out related to the research results and thoughts from previous researchers. The results show that project-based learning focusing on Solar Photovoltaic effectively improves students' understanding of physics concepts related to renewable energy and improves 21st-century skills, namely creativity, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills. In addition, students also showed increased awareness and responsibility for environmental issues. © 2024 Institute of physics Publishing. All rights reserved.

Finding high school students' Problem-Solving Skills (PSS) on static fluid is the aim of this study. A sample of 125 students from a high school in East Java, Indonesia, was employed in this quantitative study employing a survey methodology. The Problem-Solving Skills Test (Cronbarch's Alpha reliability of 0.66), which consists of six essay questions with a scoring range of 1 to 5, was used to collect the study data. The research data was analyzed using descriptive statistics. The average PSS of the students according to the research results was 20.54 with the conversion of the PSS Test score to a scale of 0-100, placing them in the beginner category. According to the PSS indicators, the rank of students from highest to lowest level is Useful Description, Specific Application of physics, Mathematical Procedures, physics Approach, and Logical Progression. Students find that Archimedes' Law, Pascal's Law, and Hydrostatic Pressure are the most difficult static fluid subtopic to go through. It is highly recommended that learning methods that can support students' problem-solving skills, such as project-based learning in conjunction with Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics (STEAM), provide them with the skills to use logic in their thinking when solving problems. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

In astrophysical concepts, a star can be treated as a blackbody. However, teaching blackbody radiation in physics classrooms is not often relevant to astrophysical contexts. Therefore, prospective teacher-students need to have experiences contextualizing blackbody radiation in astrophysics. This study aimed to investigate how the inquiry lesson activities for teaching blackbody radiation in an astrophysics context, including the design of a simple experimental setup and the worksheets. The experimental setup was designed using affordable equipment like a tungsten bulb, a basic meter, a small piece of compact disk, and a smartphone application called lux meter. By manipulating the voltage across the tungsten filament and measuring the current and intensity using a lux meter, students can calculate its temperature, analyze the spectrum through PHET simulation, and construct a graph of wavelength vs intensity. The method of this study combines a qualitative analysis to describe the resulted spectral by the apparatus, lesson design, and description of the implementation. In addition, quantitative analysis using a quasi-experimental one-group pre-test and post-test design was conducted with prospective teacher-student participants who had taken the astronomy course and are still taking the modern physics course. The results show that inquiry lesson using simple apparatus model and materials positively fosters prospective teacher-students understanding of how to contextualize the blackbody radiation concept in astrophysics. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Students' conceptions sometimes differ from those of physicists, necessitating teachers to incorporate detection methods in their instructional planning to mitigate these disparities. This study aimed to create a 4-Tier Diagnostic Fluid Static Test (4T-DFST) tool and assess students' conceptual understanding of static fluid topics. This research follows the Research and Development (R&D) approach, employing the ADDIE model (Analyzing, Designing, Developing, Implementing, and Evaluating). In essence, the four-tier diagnostic test format comprises four distinct levels. The instruments were deemed valid and reliable based on validity and reliability tests, yielding results of 0.60 and 0.79, respectively. Both expert validation and calculations confirm the suitability of the developed 4T-DFST for implementation. This research represents an advancement by focusing on static fluid material, whereas prior research concentrated solely on mechanics material with minimal attention to static fluid concepts. © 2024 Institute of physics Publishing. Currently, the utilization of technology is needed in education as a learning media. This integration demands digital literacy skills. Hence, this research examines the digital literacy skills of physics education students at Jember University. This research is descriptive research with data collection methods using questionnaires. Analyzing the questionnaire results follows descriptive analysis techniques. The research findings indicate that students display good digital literacy skills in terms of operational abilities, excellent critical understanding skills, and satisfactory communication skills through media. Therefore, physics education students at Jember University possess good digital literacy when utilizing digital-based learning media. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Academic adaptation is a primary challenge new students face at nearly every university. The differences in learning culture between high school and higher education's more independent learning environment significantly impact academic success, particularly in the first year. This study aims to analyze the effects of implementing the Self-Regulated Approach to Strategic Learning (SRSL) on the conceptual understanding of first-year physics students. The study focuses on topics evaluated using the standard Force Concept Inventory (FCI) test. Each respondent completed two questionnaires, one during the planning phase and one during the implementation phase, while studying three topics related to the FCI. The research data were analyzed qualitatively to assess students' ability to plan and implement learning strategies and quantitatively to measure conceptual understanding through FCI scores. The results indicated that students could reasonably perform situational analysis of learning contexts. However, they needed help to implement the learning strategies they had planned. Post-learning, students also faced difficulties evaluating the challenges encountered during strategy implementation (comprehensive monitoring and problem-solving) and determining appropriate corrective actions (modification). These difficulties were reflected in the low cognitive category on the FCI. This finding suggests difficulties executing and modifying learning strategies affect first-year students' conceptual understanding. Therefore, improvements are needed in classroom teaching and providing out-of-class guidance to help students design and implement effective learning strategies at the university level. © 2024 Institute of physics Publishing. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of the POW model in improving students' conceptual understanding of the topic of fluids. The research sample consisted of 25 students from Universitas Negeri Surabaya. The results of the data analysis showed that the average score on the initial test was 11.24, and the average score on the final test was 25.00. Analysis using N-Gain obtained a value of 83.74 or on the high criteria. Many students need to understand that hydrostatic pressure only depends on the depth of the fluid. Hydrostatic pressure depends on the specific gravity of the fluid and the depth of the *** analysis used the t-test using the SPSS application at a significance level of 0.05 with the prerequisite tests for normality and homogeneity. Sig obtained the results of the problem-solving statistical test. = 0.000 and understanding of the Sig. = 0.000 with the criteria to accept Ho if Sig. > 0.05 and reject H0 if Sig. © 2024 Institute of physics Publishing. The depletion of conventional energy sources requires human innovations related to renewable energy. Unfortunately, learning about renewable energy, especially in Indonesia, is only theoretical with teacher-centered learning. The learning should be student-centered as a future generation must be ready for all the changes and demands of the 21st-century era. This study aims to describe the process of implementing the STEM-integrated PjBL model on renewable energy issues through windmill simulation. The research was conducted in a High School in Jember Regency. This type of research is descriptive qualitative with a single case study approach. The results showed that the stages in STEM-integrated PjBL, including teacher introduction, objectives, connections, well-defined outcomes, materials, engagement, exploration, explanation, extension, and evaluation, are very suitable for implementation in high school, especially renewable energy. STEM-integrated PjBL can be conducted to make students more active in the learning process. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

physics practicum activities have an important role in the learning process because they can provide convenience for students in proving theories. This research aims to develop a prototype uniformly varied rectilinear motion teaching aid based on a video analysis tracker in physics practicum. This study uses research and development with an ADDIE model. The research results show that when an object moves up, the object experiences slowed down, uniformly varied rectilinear motion. Meanwhile, when the object moves down, the object experiences uniformly varied rectilinear motion accelerated. The survey results show that 60% choose the option resulting from the uniformly varied rectilinear motion teaching aids provided adequately, 73.30% agree that the developed tool is easy to operate, and 73.30% experience an increase in understanding after using the tool. Thus, the design and testing of existing prototypes have been successful. The implications of this research can be used to improve students' understanding of concepts through practicum activities. However, this study has limitations, namely, the results of data from Tracker Video Analysis are relatively inaccurate, both in terms of the ability of students to operate it and the inability of the device to operate it. Therefore, developing this research to obtain more accurate data is suggested. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
