Quantum circuits for arithmetic functions over Galois fields such as squaring are required to implement quantum cryptanalysis algorithms. Quantum circuits for integer arithmetic such as multiplication are required to implement scientific computing algorithms and quantum image processing algorithms on quantum computers. Reliable quantum circuits require error correcting codes and gates that are fault tolerant in nature. Quantum circuits of many qubits are challenging to implement making designs with low qubit cost desirable. In this work, we present quantum arithmetic circuits for applications in quantum cryptanalysis and quantum image processing. We present a proposed algorithm for synthesizing gate cost, qubit cost and depth optimized Galois field (GF(2 m )) squaring circuits for quantum cryptanalysis applications. In addition, these squaring circuits are incorporated into a proposed quantum circuit for inversion in GF(2 m ). This work also presents a proposed quantum integer conditional addition circuit and a quantum integer multiplication circuit optimized for T-count and qubit cost. The quantum conditional addition circuit and quantum multiplier are incorporated into proposed quantum circuits for bilinear interpolation optimized for T-count cost that can be used in quantum image processing applications.

For human skeleton tracking, conventional methods may directly rely on the Kinect built-in function to extract skeleton joints and realize the tracking function. However, the left-right confusion problem and the self-occlusion problem would make the Kinect joints unstable and incorrect. In this paper, we aim to solve these crucial issues and realize a reliable 3D skeleton tracking system via multiple Kinect cameras. First, the proposed method corrected the Kinect skeleton by referring to the OpenPose-extracted joints. Since OpenPose extracts the joints by analyzing image content, we can differentiate the front side and the back side and thus can correct the left-right confusion. Second, to alleviate the self-occlusion problem, we back-project the 2D OpenPose joints from multiple cameras and form an alternative 3D skeleton. The OpenPose reconstructed joints are treated as robust 3D anchors for multiple skeleton fusion. Last but not least, we introduce the inter-joint constraints into our skeleton tracking framework so that we can trace all joints simultaneously, make sure the skeleton movement consistent, and well maintain the length between neighboring joints. We evaluate our method with challenging actions. A practical system is also built for demonstration. The experimental results show the system can track skeleton stably without error propagation and vibration. The average localization error is also smaller than conventional methods.

Physical layer security (PLS) is critically important for emerging wireless communication networks to maintain the confidentiality of the information of legitimate users. In this paper, we investigate enhancing PLS in an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) based communication network where a UAV acting as an aerial base station (BS) provides coverage in a densely packed user area (such as a stadium or a concert area). In particular, non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) together with highly-directional multi-antenna transmission techniques in mmWave frequency bands are utilized for improving spectral efficiency. In order to achieve PLS against potential eavesdropper attacks, we introduce a protected zone around the user region. However, limited resource availability refrain protected zone being extended to cover the entire eavesdropper region. Hence, we propose an approach to optimize the protected zone shape (for fixed area) at each UAV-BS hovering altitude. The associated secrecy performance is evaluated considering the secrecy outage and sum secrecy rates. Numerical results reveal the importance of protected zone shape optimization at each altitude to maximize NOMA secrecy rates. © 2018 IEEE.

Harmful algal blooms occur frequently and deteriorate water quality. A reliable method is proposed in this paper to track algal blooms using a set of autonomous surface robots. A satellite image indicates the existence and initial location of the algal bloom for the deployment of the robot system. The algal bloom area is approximated by a circle with time varying location and size. This circle is estimated and circumnavigated by the robots which are able to locally sense its boundary. A multi-agent control algorithm is proposed for the continuous monitoring of the dynamic evolution of the algal bloom. Such algorithm comprises of a decentralised least squares estimation of the target and a controller for circumnavigation. We prove the convergence of the robots to the circle and in equally spaced positions around it. Simulation results with data provided by the SINMOD ocean model are used to illustrate the theoretical results.

It is well known that direct-sequence code-division multiple-access (DS/CDMA) systems are capacity limited due to multiple access interference from active users. In recent years, several multiuser detectors have been developed to overcome this performance limitation. One such class of detectors includes the successive interference canceler (SIC) and the parallel interference canceler (PIC). The PIC usually operates well in situations where the users have relatively equal powers, whereas the SIC is better suited for users with a range of powers (i.e., near-far conditions). In this paper, we examine a linear hybrid interference canceler (LHIC) which combines the parallel and successive architectures in a weighted manner. This combination is based on an optimized weighting, which we compare to a simple suboptimal approach. A primary advantage of the hybrid detector is its ability to successfully operate for a wide range of signal scenarios when the amplitude profile does not conform to those for which the SIC and PIC detectors separately achieve their best performance.

This paper focuses on the program development process, and how the computer & Information Science department utilized the vinous program and professional requirements sources to develop a BSSE program proposal that is completely accreditable. The requirements sources referenced include the EC2000, CC2001, SEEK, SWEBOK, existing computer science courses, available faculty resources and the not-insignificant required university courses. Specifically, this paper describes the use of traceability matrices to map program requirements from the SEEK, SWEBOK and other sources against the courses that form the core of the BSSE program design. The paper also includes a description of various tradeoffs and program design rational used in the process.

The Avionics engineering Center and the School of Electrical engineering and computer Science at Ohio University (OU) have established a research effort in uninhabited aerial vehicles (UAVs) with the intent developing autonomous flight capabilities. The department of Electrical and computer engineering at Mississippi State University has recently entered into a collaborative effort with OU in this area. This paper presents the current status of this UAV research, several mission scenarios have been considered, including search and rescue missions. The Brumby UAV is described, including payload capabilities, flight duration capabilities, and the various hardware and software components of the present system. Results of flight testing are shown, with 3D navigation information determined from the GPS units displayed. Finally, future goals of the research are discussed.

This paper proposes and analyzes the performance of admission control policies (ACPs) for wireless cellular networks carrying two classes of service. Each class may have its own bandwidth requirements, call intensity and session duration. In a single tier system, a two-dimensional Markov chain model is used to derive traffic performance measures for each class of service, such as the probability of blocking, the probability of handover failure, and the probability of forced termination. Sharing of resources among services is adopted, in order to prevent trunk inefficiency. An ACP is proposed in a two-tier cellular system, where some ongoing calls are dropped at the lower tier and tentatively reallocated to the upper tier. It is observed that this is an effective technique to manage heterogeneous service requests with sharing of various sets of resources. Each set belongs to a certain coverage tier in a hierarchical coverage architecture. Since upper tiers are typically provided with decreasing amount of resources, lower bandwidth calls are preferably served by upper tiers when traffic congestion occurs at lower tiers.

Several structures for fixed-lag (FL) soft-in/soft-out (SISO) algorithms in the case of a perfectly known channel are well-known. These forward-only and bi-directional fixed-lag SISOs have been described with the bi-directional version shown to be preferred. Adaptive iterative detection using adaptive SISOs (A-SISOs) have also been demonstrated to provide significant performance gains for time-varying channels. However, these impressive results have been obtained with fixed-interval, bi-directional A-SISOs and training signals at both ends of the data packet. We combine these results to develop and compare various adaptive, fixed-lag SISOs. Among several reasonable options considered, the preferred A-SISO algorithm is found to be bi-directional with forward-only channel estimation.

The performance of an adaptive filter is limited by the misadjustment resulting from the variance of adapting parameters, This paper develops a method to reduce the misadjustment when the additive noise in the desired signal is correlated, Given a static linear model, the linear estimator that can achieve the minimum parameter variance estimate is known as the best linear unbiased estimator (BLUE), Starting from classical estimation theory and a Gaussian autoregressive (AR) noise model, a maximum likelihood (ML) estimator that jointly estimates the filter parameters and the noise statistics is established, The estimator is shown to approach the best linear unbiased estimator asymptotically, The proposed adaptive filtering method follows by modifying the commonly used mean-square error (MSE) criterion in accordance with the ML cost function, The new configuration consists of two adaptive components: a modeling filter and a noise whitening filter, Convergence study reveals that there is only one minimum in the error surface, and global convergence is guaranteed, Analysis of the adaptive system when optimized by LMS or RLS is made, together with the tracking capability investigation, The proposed adaptive method performs significantly better than a usual adaptive filter with correlated additive noise and tracks a time-varying system more effectively.
