Potatoes are a food source that is beneficial for humans in various aspects, such as having nutritional and economic value. However, potato plants are susceptible to many diseases. To address this issue, various researchers have suggested methods utilizing machine learning and image processing for automatic disease type detection. This paper introduces a disease detection model for potato leaf images, employing two computer vision techniques: Vision Transformer (ViT) and CoAtNet. The dataset used in this paper consisted of 30,760 augmented images divided into seven classes. The ViT model had a test accuracy of 99.32% and a validation accuracy of99.12%. Meanwhile, the CoAtNEt model had a test accuracy of 99.58 % and a validation accuracy of 99.48 %. These results show that both models can be used in the detection of potato leaf diseases.

The high traffic in the container yard requires effective management, and one method to address this is through automation. The Rubber Tyred Gantry Crane (RTGC) plays a crucial role in container yards. Automating the RTGC involves determining the container’s location and sway angle to provide feedback for the control system. The advancements in computer vision technology offer a unique solution to tackle these challenges. This paper proposes image processing as a means to sense the sway angle and MobileNet SSD to detect the container’s location. The proposed method yields accurate measurement results and is integrated with optimized PID-PD for position and sway angle control in RTGC. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated through successful performance in both simulation and experiments conducted on a laboratory-scale RTGC prototype.

To enhance the accuracy of vehicle localization, this research proposes a map matching system with a distinct architecture involving four key stages. Each GPS point creates a local map, and the system detects reference points within that map, subsequently calculating Euclidean distances and determining observation and transmission probabilities. The matching results yield the actual position of the vehicle on the map. The localization algorithm incorporates distance computation using a sliding window technique, observation probability based on proximity between GPS and reference points, and transmission probability to minimize errors. The study employs real-world tests in Bandung, Indonesia, demonstrating successful correction of GPS positions using the proposed method. In conclusion, this research provides a significant contribution in enhancing the accuracy of autonomous vehicle localization. By employing a probabilistic approach to observation and transmission, the method effectively corrects the vehicle's position, compensating for potential inaccuracies introduced by GPS. The utilization of a local map also proves impactful by including reference point positions, resulting in more precise outcomes. From the conducted field tests, all GPS points are accurately detected in their actual positions where there are seven GPS points do not match to vehicle trajectory, after the matching process, all point positions are successfully corrected, ensuring accurate localization by the system.

This paper provides a comprehensive comparative analysis of the performance of four bioinspired algorithms (Differential Evolution, Grasshopper Optimization Algorithm, Moth-flame Optimization, and Particle Swarm Optimization) in designing a flatness-based controller for a ball and beam system simulated in MATLAB/Simulink environment. The assessment involves the tuning of feedback gains utilizing four distinct fitness functions: Integral Square Error, Integral Absolute Error, Integral Time Absolute Error, and an ad-hoc cost function. Hypothesis tests are employed to choose the optimal controllers from each combination for every bioinspired algorithm and a fitness function. Subsequently, a control performance analysis of these controllers for the ball and beam system is conducted, focusing on critical parameters such as overshoot, settling time, and steady-state error. This analysis demonstrates that all the controllers achieve a zero steady-state error. Noteworthy is the flatness-based controller tuned with the bioinspired Grasshopper Optimization Algorithm and utilizing the Integral Time Absolute Error fitness function, which stands out for achieving the fastest response with the lowest overshoot. This particular controller emerges as the most recommended choice for the specified application.

In indoor vertical farming systems, managing dynamic and complex environments poses significant challenges. Traditional control strategies often fall short in adapting to rapid changes in critical parameters such as nutrient levels, climate conditions, and plant health indicators. To address these challenges, this paper presents a novel approach for optimizing indoor vertical farming using Deep Deterministic Policy Gradient (DDPG), a reinforcement learning algorithm well-suited for environments with continuous action spaces. Our study focused on the control and monitoring of key parameters, including nutrient levels (pH and EC), climate conditions (temperature, humidity, light, and CO2 levels), and plant health indicators (biomass accumulation and leaf size structure). By defining a comprehensive state and action space, we simulated an indoor farming environment and trained the DDPG model to maximize crop yield and health.

This paper presents the dynamic modelling and end effector position control of a soft endoscope. Soft endoscope system under study consists mainly of a pneumatic driven soft actuator (PDSA) with four independently chambers. Recurrent neural network (RNN) and dynamic back propagation (DBP) training algorithm are used to obtain PDSA dynamic model. PDSA position controller is based on a feedforward neural network (FNN) and it is trained using PDSA closed loop system (CLS) and DBP training algorithm. CLS stability analysis concludes that it is not possible control PDSA end effector position using one position controller for different end effector initial and desired positions. Fuzzy logic methodology is used to integrate several positions controllers in a one controller valid for all operation range. The controller implementation and close loop system simulation are performed in MATLAB for different end effector desired position to validate system performance in all range of operation.

In the electronic engineering undergraduate program, Peruvian universities offer different theoretical courses of Automatic control that do not present enough practical approach to the algorithms that are studied during the progress of these courses; however, the approach to implementation is very important to achieve good performance in the industry and researching. In this work is presented XSpace, an innovative and friendly platform which consists of a robust hardware that allows the student to take it home; this way, the student is given the opportunity to implement digital control algorithms learned in the theoretical classes. The effectiveness of this platform is shown using a proposed methodology which evidences greater interest, efficiency and efficacy in students at the Automatic control area. This project was implemented in the “control Systems” course at Pontificia Universidad Catolica del Peru (PUCP) from 2020 to 2022. Results are presented through a student survey and a history of average grades during the academic periods the platform was employed.

The study designs an instrumentation and control system for autonomous quadrotor landing using a visual marker as the landing target. For landing process, the marker used as a landing target is an embedded ArUco marker, capable for detection for both long range and close-range detection. Position of the quadrotor relative from the ArUco marker is estimated using Perspective-N-Point pose estimation. The estimation errors compared to actual measurements are under 20 cm, which is less than the distance between ArUco border and its center. To keep camera for facing downward during the flight, the 2 axis inertially stabilization platform (ISP). The designed ISP can maintain the camera orientation even when quadrotor angle has changed. The landing control system is made for two different scenarios. First scenario is for landing with Global Positioning System (GPS) support, and the second scenario is without GPS support. The landing control system in GPS support scenario uses velocity setpoint to control the quadrotor while in without GPS support scenario, control system uses angle-thrust setpoint to control quadrotor. Quadrotor landing control system can attempt landing on top of the ArUco marker in both scenarios. The trajectory Mean Average Error (MAE) of x and y coordinates and radius of the landing process is (0.108, 0.326, 0.359) m for GPS support scenario and (0.301, 0.251, 0.436) m for without GPS support scenario.

The electrification of offshore oil and gas platforms (OOGPs), using offshore wind turbines, is now a reality, aimed at minimizing carbon emissions. In this scenario, the utilization of battery energy storage systems (BESS) improves both efficiency and power quality. As this integration comes with a high CAPEX, industries demand exploring BESS for multiple ancillary services on OOGPs. Thus, this paper proposes an alternative approach to energizing a power transformer (PT) using the BESS power conversion system (PCS) on the platform, aiming to minimize inrush currents. This avoids the necessity for additional bulky devices, converters, or dc voltage sources specifically designated for this purpose. The strategy consists of manipulating residual core flux using BESS PCS followed by a controlled switching, which reduces inrush currents during PT energization. The results show effective reduction of the inrush current from 2.31 pu to 0.16 pu for the presented case study.

Currently, hypervisor technology is an emerging topic of research. Virtualization technology, especially hypervisors and virtual machines (VM), has been widely studied but is still little applied in the cyber-physical systems (CPS) field. A hypervisor, or VM monitor (VMM), is a software program used to run multiple VMs on a single physical machine through space and time partitioning in a real-time operating system. This paper discusses the hypervisor technology to prevent software interference and to minimize size, weight, and power-cost (SWaP-C) in cyber physical systems, as well as, the application of hypervisor technology in the aerospace, automotive and control fields. By partitioning, a hypervisor can increase software safety because application programs with different criticality levels do not affect each other in failure when run in partitioned VMs.
