Blindness results from various conditions causing vision loss, impacting mobility. To address this, a specialized assistive technology using Raspberry Pi 4 Model B, camera, sensor, and speaker is designed. It assists people with varying degrees of vision impairment, from total blindness to normal vision. Training includes data from six object recognition studies/products. Testing covers obstacle detection, object recognition, guidance, and audio feedback compared to other cane devices. The prototype achieved 80% accuracy in object detection, 65.32% in object recognition, and 71.43% in audio feedback. © 2024 IEEE.

The J1772 EVCC HAT Prototype has been designed for robustness and adaptability in modern EV charging and power management, particularly for small-scale electric boats like Philippine fishing vessels. It complies with industry standards such as IP67, SAE J1772, IEC 62763, and IEC 61581. Key performance metrics include Shepherd Model Discharge Curve R-squared values with 0.09% to 2.75% differences from a reference study and 82% AC plugin charging efficiency, validated by a One Sample T -test (t=1.093, t_critical=2.064). Solar-assisted discharge tests show battery percentages above 50%, with a One Sample T-test (t=5.95, t_critical=4.303) indicating areas for improvement. The prototype meets J1772/1EC 62763 standards with less than 5% voltage differences from theoretical values, compared to over 5% for commercial EVCCs. Its compatibility with various EVCCs in standard charging stations and its dual functionality in on-grid charging and motor load discharging makes it versatile for multiple applications, including as a portable solar marine power bank, meeting all study objectives. © 2024 IEEE.

This study aims to remediate the issue of plant biodiversity undervaluation by proposing an automated irrigation system with increased configuration options for the sunflower crop. Despite being a valuable protein source, sunflower crops' adaptability to climate change, drought, heat, and soil salinity changes are limited. The proposed solution includes IoT technology for data collection regarding weather, moisture, temperature, and soil fertility. Previous studies have emphasized the importance of managing resources to meet the crop's demands for optimal output, including good seed-to-soil contact, temperature, and water. The study proposes using a wireless sensor network to monitor and automate agricultural procedures for sunflower crops, which can help farmers save costs and increase output while contributing to plant biodiversity conservation. © 2024 IEEE.

In this study, image processing is paired with Shufflenet V2 CNN Algorithm to detect Black Sigatoka infected banana leaves with the aid of Data Augmentation and Padding for testing and training. Black Sigatoka disease is one of the most important diseases for banana crops since it is responsible for most yield depletion and premature ripening. Currently, some studies tackle the detection of banana crop diseases using image classification with different algorithms for differentiating infected from healthy ones. As for the result, the study has tested Shufflenet V2 Algorithm in detecting Black Sigatoka using distinct training datasets. When applying the algorithm, different setups and alterations can be made for its training dataset to fully enhance the overall performance of the algorithm through Data Augmentation and Padding. Each Data Augmentation and Padding setup is tested for the Shufflenet V2 Algorithm in this study. The results show that with this small dataset, the ShuffleNet V2 CNN algorithm trained to detect Black Sigatoka on banana leaves, augmenting the image dataset and padding every image yielding an accuracy of 95%, specificity of 93.33% and sensitivity of 96.67%. © 2024 IEEE.

The study 'Advanced Techniques for Real-Time Smoke Emission Monitoring: Color Analysis, HOG, and SVM ' addresses a critical environmental issue exacerbated by rapid urbanization and the increasing number of vehicles on the road. Images of vehicle emissions are processed to extract color and gradient features and fed into an SVM classifier for smoke detection. Additionally, the system systematically stores collected data-including SVM-HOG values, color analysis results, and vehicle plate numbers-in a database for comprehensive analysis and continuous improvement. The color analysis technique achieves an accuracy of 93.33%, a precision of 90.91%, a recall of 90.91%, and an F1-score of 90.91%. The SVM-HOG method attains an accuracy of 90.00%, a precision of 83.33%, a recall of 91%, and an F1-score of 86.96%. © 2024 IEEE.

Apple snails are invasive species that reproduce rapidly, outcompete native species, damage ecosystems, and even endanger human health. They threaten agriculture by consuming rice seedlings in their early stages and potentially transmit crop diseases, causing significant economic and environmental harm. Though various management techniques are employed to control their population, these methods primarily focus on adult apple snail invaders and cause unintended harm to non-target species. Hence, detecting them early at their embryonic stage is crucial to mitigate the negative impacts of the apple snails and their traditional management methods alike. Utilizing object detection and embedded computing boards, apple snails can be managed in an environmentally sustainable and economically feasible manner. This study introduced an object detection model that localizes apple snail egg masses, leveraging YOLOv8 - a leading one-shot object detection framework, in conjunction with the Raspberry Pi 4 Model B, creating a portable and handheld detector. The developed model achieved impressive precision, recall, mAP50, and mAP50-95 rates, respectively (92.708%, 88.6%, 94.22%, 74.62%), demonstrating their effectiveness. © 2024 IEEE.

Brushless DC (BLDC) Motors are integral to industrial operations. Continuous motor usage can lead to various faults with significant consequences if left unaddressed. These faults may impact the motor, its surrounding system, disrupt economic activities, and potentially result in catastrophic failures. This study introduces a methodology combining Support Vector Machine (SVM) for feature classification with Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) for feature extraction. Through machine learning techniques, voltage signals from multiple BLDC motor samples with diverse faults were examined. Performance metrics, including precision, recall, accuracy, and F-1 scores, were calculated to evaluate the algorithm's effectiveness. The Support Vector Machine, trained alongside the Discrete Wavelet Transform, achieved an accuracy of 96.98 percent during validation and 90.37 percent during real-time testing. These results highlight the practical application of the proposed algorithm for efficient motor fault diagnosis. © 2024 IEEE.

With the growing demand for effective crowd management in public spaces, a crowd counting system that monitors foot traffic has become significant for safety and operational efficiency. This study introduces a real-time in/out crowd counting system developed for monitoring foot traffic in public spaces. Utilizing YOLOv8 for object detection and DeepSORT for tracking, the system consistently achieved an error rate of less than 10% in low to moderate crowd density. High-angle camera placement was used to optimize the system by minimizing occlusion. It was tested across three scenes: a maternal healthcare clinic (inside and outside) and a university setting, resulting in an average error of 3.758%. Despite challenges in dense crowds, it proved effective in low to moderate densities, displaying its crowd management capabilities. © 2024 IEEE.

The traditional methods for testing the frequency of quartz crystal resonators include the indirect calculation method, signal source oscillation method, and network analyzer method. Each of the three methods has major defects. According to the characteristics of the frequency of quartz crystal resonators, this paper proposes three new test methods: oscilloscope test method, frequency meter test method, and spectrum analyzer test method. These three methods differ in basic test principles, equipment configuration requirements, test accuracy, and applicable environment. This paper makes a detailed comparison of the advantages and disadvantages of these three methods, and puts forward selection suggestions for different application conditions: if you only want to measure the frequency of the quartz crystal resonator, use the spectrum analyzer test method, if you need to measure the frequency and also need to know the characteristics of the frequency, it is advisable to use the frequency meter test method. The oscilloscope test method can be used for qualitative and rough measurement of the frequency of the quartz crystal resonator. In addition, the possibility of instrument collaborative testing is also discussed based on their respective advantages. © 2024 IEEE.

Coconut toddy is a traditional beverage in many countries in Asia, Africa, the Caribbean, and South America. It has a short shelf life. Usually, it can only be consumed hours after harvesting to avoid its acidic and sour taste. Thus, it is necessary to improve its shelf life with the use of nonthermal ways. We developed a device and a control system to extend the shelf life of coconut toddy. An ultraviolet light, a circulation chamber, and an open-loop automated control system were used to expose the samples at different time intervals of 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 min. The treated samples were tested and compared to the untreated samples in terms of physicochemical tests such as pH, alcohol by volume, Brix (Sugar Content) and titratable acidity, and microbial tests (Total Aerobic Plate Count and Total Yeast and Molds). After physicochemical and microbial tests, the 6-minute treated sample exhibited the longest shelf life, retaining the four parameters.
