The importance of Model Predictive Control(MPC)has significant applications in the agricultural industry,more specifically for greenhouse’s control ***,the complexity of the greenhouse and its limited prior knowledge prevent an exact mathematical description of the *** methods provide a promising solution to this issue through their capacity to identify the system’s comportment using the fit between model output and observed *** this paper,we introduce an application of Constrained Model Predictive Control(CMPC)for a greenhouse temperature and relative *** this purpose,two Multi Input Single Output(MISO)systems,using Numerical Subspace State Space System Identification(N4SID)algorithm,are firstly suggested to identify the temperature and the relative humidity comportment to heating and ventilation *** this sense,linear state space models were adopted in order to evaluate the robustness of the control *** the system is identified,the MPC technique is applied for the temperature and the humidity *** results show that the regulation of the temperature and the relative humidity under constraints was guaranteed,both parameters respect the ranges 15℃≤T_(int)≤30℃and 50%≤H_(int)≤70%*** the other hand,the control signals uf and uh applied to the fan and the heater,respect the hard constraints notion,the control signals for the fan and the heater did not exceed 0≤uf≤4.3 Volts and 0≤uh≤5 Volts,respectively,which proves the effectiveness of the MPC and the tracking ***,we show that with the proposed technique,using a new optimization toolbox,the computational complexity has been significantly *** greenhouse in question is devoted to Schefflera Arboricola cultivation.

Delay-sensitive applications are becoming more and more in demand as a result of the development of information systems and the expansion of communication in cloud computing technologies. Some of these requests will be overlooked in cloud environments due to the communication delay between the processing center and the client’s request. The ‘fog-based computing paradigm’, a novel processing model, can be added to cloud computing to help with the aforementioned issues. The performance of computing systems is always influenced by latency. In this paper, we focus on balancing the load on the fog nodes to lower the latency. It is also a crucial component of fog computing devices. It necessitates the use of load-balancing algorithms to select the optimal hosts, resulting in an even distribution of the load on the available *** provide a load-balancing approach based on the Ant-colony optimization algorithm’s latency rate for responding to tasks. Credit cards became one of the most popular payment methods as technology advanced and e-commerce services expanded, resulting in an increase in the volume of banking transactions. Furthermore, the significant increase in the number of frauds necessitates high banking transaction costs. As a result, detecting fraudulent activities has become an intriguing topic, attracting a large number of researchers. We consider the use of class weight-tuning hyperparameters to control the weight of fraudulent and legitimate transactions in this study. We use Bayesian optimization, in particular, to optimize the hyperparameters while taking into account practical issues such as unbalanced data. We propose weight-tuning as a pre-process for unbalanced data, as well as using CatBoost and XGBoost to improve the performance of the LightGBM method by taking the voting mechanism into account. Finally, we use deep learning to fine-tune the hyperparameters, particularly our proposed weight-tuning one, in order to improve performance even further. We conducted some experiments to evaluate the proposed methods on real-world data. We use recall-precision metrics in addition to the common ROC-AUC to better cover unbalanced datasets. We use a 5-fold cross-validation method to test CatBoost, LightGBM, and XGBoost separately. Furthermore, the performance of the combined algorithms is evaluated using the majority voting ensemble learning method. According to the results, LightGBM and XGBoost achieve the best level criteria of ROC-AUC = 0.95, precision 0.79, recall 0.80, F1 score 0.79, and MCC 0.79. Also, by using deep learning and the Bayesian optimization method to tune the hyperparameters, we meet the following criteria: ROC-AUC = 0.94, precision = 0.80, recall = 0.82, F1 score = 0.81, and MCC = 0.81. This is a big improvement over the state-of-the-art methods we compared it to. © 2023 CEUR-WS. All rights reserved.

Keeping track of time is regarded as an essential human behavior. The question of how the brain deals with temporal information remains a subject of scholarly debate. The current investigation aims to explore the mechanism underlying time perception by extracting fractal dimension from an electroencephalogram (EEG) signal and its frequency bands. To accomplish this, Higuchi’s fractal dimension was calculated for 42 healthy subjects’ electroencephalogram (EEG) signal and its sub-bands during the time perception task. The EEG signal was recorded from 19 channels. Subsequently, a statistical analysis was conducted to compare participants who underestimated versus those who overestimated the elapsed time and significantly different channels were presented. The findings suggest an elevated level of fractal dimensionality in persons who displayed a tendency to overestimate time. The EEG signal and Gamma rhythm emerged as the most distinguishing signals between the two cohorts. The contrast in fractal dimension between the two groups was predominantly apparent in the parietal and central channels. To summarize, an increased level of complexity is discernible in the EEG signal and high-frequency rhythms when there is an overestimation of temporal duration. It can be asserted that the employment of FD yields presents an exceptional approach to comprehending cerebral functionalities, notably temporal perception. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

Human activity prediction has become increasingly prevalent in a plethora of time-critical applications. To realize accurate identification and prediction of human behaviour, we propose a situation-aware wearable computing system. A wearable computing system has the capability to perceive, comprehend and project situations by analyzing the human behavioral patterns in different environments. In particular, this work proposes a situation-aware human activity prediction (SA-HAP) approach based on sequential pattern mining that aims to anticipate future activities and tailor its responses according to situations by analyzing frequent sequential patterns and their correlations to understand how these situations are interrelated. The approach not only improves prediction accuracy but also provide the foundation for a more informed decision-making process, as the projected situations can be explained using the identified behavioral patterns. The approach is compared with other traditional techniques for activity prediction (LSTM and HMM), achieving better performance on the Extrasensory dataset. © 2024 IEEE.

Geomagnetic disturbances are a threat to the reliability and security of our national critical energy infrastructures. These events specifically result in geomagnetically induced currents, which can cause damage to transformers due to magnetic saturation. In order to mitigate these effects, blocker devices must be placed in optimal locations. Finding this placement requires a dc representation of the ac transmission lines, which this paper discusses. Different decisions in this process, including the method of representing the blocking devices, result in significant variations to the power loss calculations. To analyze these effects, we conclude the paper by comparing the losses on a sample network with different modeling implementations. © 2025 IEEE.

Dementia is a neurological disorder that affects a person’s cognitive and social skills, leading to a decline in their overall mental functioning. Frontotemporal dementia (FTD) and Alzheimer’s disease (AD) are two common types of dementia. Frontotemporal dementia mostly affects the frontal and temporal lobes of the brain. These areas are responsible for executive functions, decision-making, language, behavior regulation, and personality traits. Alzheimer’s disease primarily damages the cerebral cortex, which is responsible for higher cognitive functions such as memory, language, and perception. The electroencephalogram (EEG) signal has many advantages in diagnosing these disorders, including low cost and high temporal resolution. This study compares AD and FTD patients with healthy subjects by extracting specific features from EEG signals. Two machine learning algorithms were used for the separation, Support Vector Machines (SVMs) and k-Nearest Neighbors (KNNs), and 10-Fold Cross-Validation was applied to validate the performance of this method and an accuracy of 91.2% (sd = 7.8) was achieved using the SVM classifier for diagnosing the disease and 71.1% (sd = 8.6) for classifying AD and FTD. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

This work focuses on the analysis of probabilistic power curve models that link the energy production of a photovoltaic system with the irradiance forecasts of the weather provider. It is shown that the essential information is provided by global horizontal irradiance (GHI) forecasts, which can be used to obtain simple and meaningful probabilistic models using non-parametric (quantile Regression forests) and parametric (Beta regression) methods. The second step is the analysis of the monthly performance of power curve models, to understand whether their performance can improve by taking monthly variability into account.

The paper deals with utilization of sliding mode theory in speed control of direct torque controlled permanent magnet synchronous motor drive. In order to smooth stator current waveform, pulse-width-modulation (PWM) technique are selected, and space vector PWM is employed to receive high motor torque. Conventional proportional-integral (PI) speed controller does not guarantee high performance in both dynamic and steady-state operations, especially at times of load variation. Sliding mode control is chosen to enhance the performance of drive system. Simulations for both systems with conventional PI speed controller and sliding-mode-based speed controller are constructed. Integral performance indices including integral of time multiplied by the absolute value of speed error (ITAE), integral of time multiplied by the square of speed error (ITSE), integral of the absolute value of speed error (IAE), integral of the square of the speed error (ISE), are used to evaluate performance.
