With network slicing technology, 5G changes the classical mobile network business model from a network-operator-oriented business to a more open system with multiple stakeholders. In this context, a network slice broker plays the role of agency between network resource providers and vertical service providers, to lease and provide on-demand network slice services. In practice, a single network slice broker normally owns limited types of network slices. And a collaboration infrastructure could be built up to enable network slice sharing among multiple network slice brokers, so as to improve user experience, and enhance the resource utilization rate. However, a major challenge with such an infrastructure is how to support fair and secure slice trading process among multiple un-trusted network slice providers. Blockchain technology, on the other side, brings in high opportunities to implement a fair and secure trading system without a trusted third-party. In view of this observation, this paper proposes a design of blockchain-enabled collaboration infrastructure for network slice brokers, where a group of registered brokers can trade their network slices in a fair and secure manner. To enhance the accountability of slice trading records, transactions are verified and sorted by each broker node, which are further packed into blocks and appended to a shared ledger maintained by each member in the collaboration network. More specifically, we design a Proof-of-Majority (PoM) consensus protocol to sort slice trading transactions before packing transaction blocks of the shared ledger. Furthermore, an optimization for the basic PoM protocol is discussed, with dependency resolving strategy to improve system performance. Experiments are conducted to verify the feasibility of our proposal. © 2020 ACM.

Street networks (SN) are intricate connections of roads and intersections; there is an enormous amount of available, open source street network (SN) data, such as the worldwide SN hosted by OpenStreetMaps, a popular source of SNs used in SUMO (Simulation of Urban Mobility) models, including the TAPASCologne project (TAPASCP). These SNs are intricate and high in feature dimension, notable are the edges containing data about road name, number of lanes, speed limit, etc. As a result, SN models that utilize this data are robust and highly-detailed. In this paper, we identify five significant ed ge features (SEF) from exploratory data analysis of the TAPASCP, present an unsupervised methodology of classifying bags of edges though an association rules learning approach to SEF aggregation, and measure the success of our methodology with SUMO simulations.

Edge intelligence (EI), as an emerging technology, has been attracting significant attention. It pushes the frontier of artificial intelligence (AI) from the cloud to the network edge, aiming to embrace and support the next-generation communications while unleashing AI services. However, it faces challenges in its decentralized management and security, which limit its capabilities to support services with numerous requirements. On the other side, blockchain (BC), as a promising decentralized technology, is beneficial to tackle the above issues. However, there exist some technical challenges for BC, such as transaction capacity, scalability, and fault tolerance. Motivated by significant current interest around EI and BC, this survey examines whether the synergy of EI and BC can make a powerful network with combined functionalities of both cutting-edge technologies. Accordingly, we develop EI-chain and Chain-intelligence to realize reliable computing-power management, data administration, and model optimization at the edges, while improving the functions of BC by leveraging complementary characteristics of EI and BC, further making up for their own limitations. In this survey, a wide spectrum of literature is carefully reviewed to enable the EI-chain and Chain-intelligence. Moreover, we cover the technological aspects of EI-chain and Chain-intelligence: overview, motivations, and frameworks. Finally, some challenges and future directions are explored. We believe this survey will provide developers and researchers a comprehensive view on the synergy of EI and BC, while accelerating the design of a powerful integrated network. © 2021, CC BY-NC-SA.

This paper reports on the NTIRE 2024 Quality Assessment of AI-Generated Content Challenge, which will be held in conjunction with the New Trends in Image Restoration and Enhancement Workshop (NTIRE) at CVPR 2024. This challenge is to address a major challenge in the field of image and video processing, namely, Image Quality Assessment (IQA) and Video Quality Assessment (VQA) for AI-Generated Content (AIGC). The challenge is divided into the image track and the video track. The image track uses the AIGIQA-20K, which contains 20,000 AI-Generated Images (AIGIs) generated by 15 popular generative models. The image track has a total of 318 registered participants. A total of 1,646 submissions are received in the development phase, and 221 submissions are received in the test phase. Finally, 16 participating teams submitted their models and fact sheets. The video track uses the T2VQA-DB, which contains 10,000 AI-Generated Videos (AIGVs) generated by 9 popular Text-to-Video (T2V) models. A total of 196 participants have registered in the video track. A total of 991 submissions are received in the development phase, and 185 submissions are received in the test phase. Finally, 12 participating teams submitted their models and fact sheets. Some methods have achieved better results than baseline methods, and the winning methods in both tracks have demonstrated superior prediction performance on AIGC. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. Over the past two decades, synchronization, as an interesting collective behavior of complex dynamical networks, has been attracting much attention. To reveal and analyze the inherent mechanism of synchronization in complex dynamical networks with time delays in nodes, this paper attempts to use PD and PI control protocols to achieve synchronization. Based on a classical network model, we investigate the PD and PI control for synchronization of complex dynamical networks with delayed nodes and obtain some sufficient conditions. By using Lyapunov functions and appropriate state transformations, we prove that global synchronization can be achieved via the above control protocols. Finally, some simulation examples are illustrated to validate the effectiveness of the proposed theoretical results.

When people connect to the Internet with their mobile devices, they do not often think about the security of their data;however, the prevalence of rogue access points has taken advantage of a false sense of safety in unsuspecting victims. This paper analyzes the methods an attacker would use to create rogue WiFi access points using software-defined radio (SDR). To construct a rogue access point, a few essential layers of WiFi need simulation: the physical layer, link layer, network layer, and transport layer. Radio waves carrying WiFi packets, transmitted between two Universal software Radio Peripherals (USRPs), emulate the physical layer. The link layer consists of the connection between those same USRPs communicating directly to each other, and the network layer expands on this communication by using the network tunneling/network tapping (TUN/TAP) interfaces to tunnel IP packets between the host and the access point. Finally, the establishment of the transport layer constitutes transceiving the packets that pass through the USRPs. In the end, we found that creating a rogue access point and capturing the stream of data from a fabricated 'victim' on the Internet was effective and cheap with SDRs as inexpensive as $20 USD. Our work aims to expose how a cybercriminal could carry out an attack like this in order to prevent and defend against them in the future. © 2019 IEEE.

In space applications, hierarchical state machines (HSMs) are often used for writing simulation and control software, including that of the Curiosity rover. At the Jet Propulsion Lab (JPL), multiple programming languages have been developed specifically for writing HSM-based software, and these have been used in practice. However, we observe that the existing languages developed have significant issues with one or more of usability, performance, and safety, making them problematic for HSM-based development. To address these concerns, we are taking lessons learned from these languages and developing a new programming language named Proteus. Proteus builds HSM support directly into the language, and permits complex HSMs to be defined which communicate with each other. Proteus is designed with a look and feel similar to C/C++, making it usable and overall approachable for use by JPL systems engineers. Proteus itself compiles to C++, allowing it to fit easily into existing development toolchains, and making it amenable to embedded real-time systems. To ensure that Proteus will be of use to its target audience, it is being developed iteratively through a series of prototypes which are regularly evaluated by key stakeholders at JPL, allowing us to refine its design if we go off course. While Proteus is still very young in its development, we demonstrate its basic viability on an example utilizing multiple independent HSMs communicating with each other, and relevant execution traces. In the future, we plan to apply Proteus to larger HSMs taken from real space applications, and many additional relevant features are planned. © 2020 The MITRE Corporation. All Rights Reserved.

Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) is a common cause of death and disability. However, existing tools for TBI diagnosis are either subjective or require extensive clinical setup and expertise. The increasing affordability and reduction in the size of relatively high-performance computing systems combined with promising results from TBI related machine learning research make it possible to create compact and portable systems for early detection of TBI. This work describes a Raspberry Pi based portable, real-time data acquisition, and automated processing system that uses machine learning to efficiently identify TBI and automatically score sleep stages from a single-channel Electroencephalogram (EEG) signal. We discuss the design, implementation, and verification of the system that can digitize the EEG signal using an Analog to Digital Converter (ADC) and perform real-time signal classification to detect the presence of mild TBI (mTBI). We utilize Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) and XGBoost based predictive models to evaluate the performance and demonstrate the versatility of the system to operate with multiple types of predictive models. We achieve a peak classification accuracy of more than 90% with a classification time of less than 1 s across 16 s - 64 s epochs for TBI vs control conditions. This work can enable the development of systems suitable for field use without requiring specialized medical equipment for early TBI detection applications and TBI research. Multi-objective Optimal Control of Dynamic Integrated Model of Climate and Economy: Evolution in Action

One of the widely used models for studying economics of climate change is the Dynamic Integrated model of Climate and Economy (DICE), which has been developed by Professor William Nordhaus, one of the laureates of the 2018 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences. Originally a single-objective optimal control problem has been defined on DICE dynamics, which is aimed to maximize the social welfare. In this paper, a bi-objective optimal control problem defined on DICE model, objectives of which are maximizing social welfare and minimizing the temperature deviation of atmosphere. This multi-objective optimal control problem solved using Non-Dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm II (NSGA-II) also it is compared to previous works on single-objective version of the problem. The resulting Pareto front rediscovers the previous results and generalizes to a wide range of non-dominant solutions to minimize the global temperature deviation while optimizing the economic welfare. The previously used single-objective approach is unable to create such a variety of possibilities, hence, its offered solution is limited in vision and reachable performance. Beside this, resulting Pareto-optimal set reveals the fact that temperature deviation cannot go below a certain lower limit, unless we have significant technology advancement or positive change in global conditions. Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-assisted communications are expected to become an important part of the next generation mobile communication systems, due to the high mobility of the UAVs. Non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) is regarded as a rosy technology in the fifth generation (5G) mobile communication systems, since it can effectively improve the spectral efficiency. In this paper, we combine the advantages of the UAV-assisted communications and NOMA, and propose a device-to-device (D2D)-enhanced UAV-NOMA network architecture, in which D2D is introduced to increase the file dispatching efficiency. Resource reuse based on spatial reuse is also allowed to further improve the spectral efficiency. Then, we propose a graph-based file dispatching (GFD) protocol to control the interference and minimize the UAV-assisted file dispatching mission time. Simulation results verify the advantages of our proposed D2D-enhanced UAV-NOMA network architecture and the efficiency of our designed GFD protocol.
