At the moment, most of the hospitals are more interested in patient satisfaction because this has been identified as a main issue of quality of service indexes. In most of the Asian countries' the type of registration system being operated in the healthcare systems are a sort of mixed-mode. Specifically, there are scheduled patients, as well as patients who just walk in and register. Unfortunately, this type of registration structure could increase the patient waiting period even in emergency cases. Interestingly, various methodologies have been explored in order to shorten this undesirable waiting time. This paper focuses on exploration of the characteristics and significance of existing models and simulation techniques from the literature. The combination of agent-based modelling (ABM), DES and integration of DES and ABS technique has been chosen as the solution to modelling patient emergency waiting time in the emergency department realistically. The proactive and independent characteristics of agents in both approaches will contribute to the good representation of patient emergency waiting time in the especially in the emergency department.

This paper presents condition assessment procedure for underground cable system. Major components of underground cable system consists of cable, joint, termination, manhole and duct bank. The inspection and testing during routine maintenance consisting of visual inspection, partial discharge measurement and sheath voltage measurement are analyzed to setup conditional score of each major component. The scoring and weighting technique is applied to calculate the health index of each major component, which is subsequently used to calculate the overall health index of underground cable system. Developed procedure is implemented with the dynamic programming via web application for condition assessment of underground cable feeders in an industrial plant in Thailand.

This paper presents condition assessment of asset in HV gas insulated substation for maintenance management in industrial area. The scoring and weighting techniques are applied for condition assessment. The component of HV substation such as circuit breaker, disconnecting switch, earthing switch, high speed earthing switch, current transformer, voltage transformer and local control panel are evaluated. The 5 bays of a 115 kV GIS substation in industrial area are evaluated as example in the assessment program. The results show the health index of components, health index of bay and health index of substation in form of percentage. The known health index of substation and its component is useful information to manage the maintenance activity with the associated cost and to plan the effective maintenance scheduling for HV substation.

Towards fair and decentralized privacy-preserving deep learning with blockchain

In collaborative deep learning, current learning frameworks follow either a centralized architecture or a distributed architecture. Whilst centralized architecture deploys a central server to train a global model over the massive amount of joint data from all parties, distributed architecture aggregates parameter updates from participating parties' local model training, via a parameter server. These two server-based architectures present security and robustness vulnerabilities such as singlepoint-of-failure, single-point-of-breach, privacy leakage, and lack of fairness. To address these problems, we design, implement, and evaluate a purely decentralized privacy-preserving deep learning framework, called DPPDL. DPPDL makes the first investigation on the research problem of fairness in collaborative deep learning, and simultaneously provides fairness and privacy by proposing two novel algorithms: initial benchmarking and privacy-preserving collaborative deep learning. During initial benchmarking, each party trains a local Differentially Private Generative Adversarial Network (DPGAN) and publishes the generated privacy-preserving artificial samples for other parties to label, based on the quality of which to initialize local credibility list for other parties. The local credibility list reflects how much one party contributes to another party, and it is used and updated during collaborative learning to ensure fairness. To protect gradients transaction during privacy-preserving collaborative deep learning, we further put forward a three-layer onionstyle encryption scheme. We experimentally demonstrate, on benchmark image datasets, that accuracy, privacy and fairness in collaborative deep learning can be effectively addressed at the same time by our proposed DPPDL framework. This manuscript presents a novel approach to nonlinear system identification leveraging densely defined Liouville operators and a new "kernel" function that represents an integration functional over a reproducing kernel Hilbert space (RKHS) dubbed an occupation kernel. The manuscript thoroughly explores the concept of occupation kernels in the contexts of RKHSs of continuous functions, and establishes Liouville operators over RKHS where several dense domains are found for specific examples of this unbounded operator. The combination of these two concepts allow for the embedding of a dynamical system into a RKHS, where function theoretic tools may be leveraged for the examination of such systems. This framework allows for trajectories of a nonlinear dynamical system to be treated as a fundamental unit of data for nonlinear system identification routine. The approach to nonlinear system identification is demonstrated to identify parameters of a dynamical system accurately, while also exhibiting a certain robustness to noise. In recent years, autonomous driving has attracted a vast amount of attention from both industry and academia, which has introduced large amounts of region-related data. In order to release the burden in core networks caused by the communication demands for such data, various in-vehicle storage (IVS) systems have been widely studied to bring contents closer to users. To cope with the mobility issue hindering the realization of IVS systems, in this paper, we propose a relay selection strategy (RSS) consisting of the relay map construction (RMC) algorithm and the relay pair matching (RPM) algorithm with the assistance of the vehicle route information. By considering both the potential transmission amount and the waiting time, the proposed RSS generates an overall optimal relay assignment for the IVS system. The performance gain of the proposed RSS compared with the baseline is evaluated by a realistic simulator in terms of the relay failure ratio, the retrieval throughput, and the RSU consumption ratio. Simulation results show that the proposed RSS achieves higher efficiency and robustness than the baseline.

Distributed manufacturing operations include cyber-physical systems vulnerable to cyber-attacks. Long time not considered a priority, cybersecurity jumped to the forefront of manufacturing concerns due to the need to network together legacy, newer equipment, and entire operation centers. This paper proposes trustworthiness solutions for integrated manufacturing physical-cyber worlds, where trustworthiness is defined to complement system dependability requirements with cybersecurity requirements, such that the resulting manufacturing cyber-physical system delivers services that can justifiably be trusted. Acknowledging the inevitability of cyber-attacks, the paper models the cybersecurity component using the resilient systems framework, where system resilience is viewed as preservation of a required state of cybersecurity. © 2017 The Authors

It is well recognized that the project productivity is a key driver in estimating software project effort from Use Case Point size metric at early software development stages. Although, there are few proposed models for predicting productivity, there is no consistent conclusion regarding which model is the superior. Therefore, instead of building a new productivity prediction model, this paper presents a new ensemble construction mechanism applied for software project productivity prediction. Ensemble is an effective technique when performance of base models is poor. We proposed a weighted mean method to aggregate predicted productivities based on average of errors produced by training model. The obtained results show that the using ensemble is a good alternative approach when accuracies of base models are not consistently accurate over different datasets, and when models behave diversely. Search techniques are an integral part for text authentication and plagiarism checks. In this work, our aim is to develop an efficient search algorithm for Arabic text (words and sentences) in a large database. The database contains the authentic source of information where information is ordered; thus the efficient algorithm can be used for searching the text in the database. The proposed search algorithm uses a quasi-Newton method - Secant method instead of the traditional binary search. The results show that the secant method has much faster convergence property than the binary search and hence the algorithm can find the search text in a shorter time period.

In this paper, we explore the benefits of teaching heavyweight process life cycle models to young software engineering students to better prepare them in the use of agile methods. The benefits of agile methods compared to process-heavy models include the ability to respond faster to the changing needs of customers and the short feedback loop between customers and developers. Since agile methods depend significantly on the competence of the individual, teaching traditional approaches (e.g. waterfall) can be advantageous to the understanding of students about what the major activities associated with software development are, by providing a well-defined structure that naturally aligns with the novice student. Towards this goal, we conducted a survey with different types of software engineers, ranging from novice undergraduates to software engineering professionals. The survey provides data on the exposure of traditional and agile process, the level of experience in using traditional and agile process models, and the perceived most optimal learning sequence. Based on the analysis of the collected data, we argue that teaching traditional software engineering process-oriented approaches prior to introducing agile methods, is highly beneficial to students' understanding and optimal use of agile techniques.
