Mobile surveys are an important research tool. In mobile health, triggering survey questions based on patient health, context, and other external information can aid in tailoring a survey to each specific user's particular situation. However, creating such a survey with existing systems is burdensome. Therefore, this paper presents a novel information system to ease the creation and deployment of context-aware, location-based surveys. In a within-subjects experiment, 12 participants with minimal programming expertise created context-aware, location-based surveys more quickly and with fewer errors than with a competing commercially-available system that lacked support for questions triggered by physical phenomena, showing the potential usefulness of the approach for future research studies.

The spreadsheet is one of the most popular information systems ever: It is exceedingly widely adopted, it has attracted significant amounts of investment and innovation by companies, and it has become a platform for new research. To uncover reasons for the spreadsheet's success, this paper applies a research method, the case study, to analyze the historical development and adoption of this important information system. The study revealed insights for the design and commercialization of future systems. These include the need for specific collaborative relationships, the multiple forms of evidence and validation required, and the role of usability as a dominant quality attribute driving adoption.

In this paper, we study the influence of communication jamming on the operation of multi-agent systems through computer simulations. In our investigation, a simple flocking model with collision avoidance is adopted, and a recently proposed algorithm for distributed estimation of global features is studied as well. The objective of the research is to study the effects of jamming on the achievement of velocity and estimation consensuses. Simulation results indicate that communication jamming delays the achievement of both velocity and estimation consensuses, and the amount of delay roughly increases linearly with the jamming range.

In this paper, we apply a recently proposed distributed estimation algorithm to a simple multi-agent flocking model with collision avoidance. 3D MATLAB simulations are performed with randomly generated agents' initial positions and velocities. The collision avoidance is realized through a repelling force between agents moderated by an alignment measure. The distributed estimation algorithm estimates certain global feature indicator of the multi-agent systems through consensus of agents' local estimations. The agents exchange information about their local estimations at discrete time instants, which are controlled by an event-triggered mechanism. The algorithm's effectiveness is illustrated through the example of centroid estimation, and simulations show that all agents' local estimations converge to the true position of the group centroid.

As the development and use of Open-Ended Learning Environments (OELEs) continues to increase, supporting students' learning in these environments with Intelligent Tutoring is rapidly becoming an important area of research. Many existing learning environments guide students in step-by-step processes to reach their learning goal;consequently, data preprocessing is well defined. In OELEs, in contrast, students may achieve task goals through multiple pathways, and there exist multiple ways to assess performance. We present a simulation OELE designed to teach students decision-making in a complex problem solving task. To provide Intelligent Tutoring Support, we are required to track performance along several dimensions. We present our approach to extract data for performance assessments that can be leveraged to provide Intelligent Tutoring Support. A compact microstrip line fed tapered-shaped slotted ultra-wideband(UWB) antenna is presented. The new design is composed of a rectangular slotted patch with a compact size of 21.44 × 23.53 mm 2 and fed by microstrip transmission line of 50 Ω. The proposed antenna is simulated onto a less expensive FR4 substrate which has a height of 1.6 mm. There achieved a wider bandwidth of 8.51 GHz (3.49-12 GHz) with good impedance matching, constant gain, 5.76 dBi of maximum gain and stable radiation pattern results in the proposed antenna more appropriate for using UWB communication applications compared to existing antennas. The proposed antenna is designed and simulated in HFSS and CST Microwave Studio software to see the antenna performance.

It is recognized that the semantic space of knowledge is a hierarchical concept network. This paper presents theories and algorithms of hierarchical concept classification by quantitative semantic relations via machine learning based on concept algebra. The equivalence between formal concepts are analyzed by an Algorithm of Concept Equivalence Analysis (ACEA), which quantitatively determines the semantic similarity of an arbitrary pair of formal concepts. This leads to the development of the Algorithm of Relational Semantic Classification (ARSC) for hierarchically classify any given concept in the semantic space of knowledge. Experiments applying Algorithms ACEA and ARSC on 20 formal concepts are successfully conducted, which encouragingly demonstrate the deep machine understanding of semantic relations and their quantitative weights beyond human perspectives on knowledge learning and natural language processing.

This paper proposes a program development for condition and importance assessment of high voltage transmission line in Thailand. The condition criteria consist of age, stress, symptom, failed-type, obsolescence, as well as environment and safety while importance criteria consider line loading, N-1 criteria, system stability, possible of force outage, pollution and social impact. The score and weight techniques are applied to the assessment. In addition, Analytical Hierarchy Process is used to determine weighting of criteria. The components of transmission system such as conductor, conductor accessories, insulator structure, foundation, lightning, accessories and right of way are evaluated while subcomponents of each component and classified. The 10 of 500 kV transmission lines in Thailand transmission network is used in example in the assessment program. The results show the criteria renovation index, equipment performance index, and equipment importance index in forms of percentage and finally risk of ten lines is shown in risk matrix. The results can provide an effective maintenance schedule for transmission system.
