This paper describes the design and fabrication of an 8-element wideband Vivaldi antenna array with an integrated feed network. This array was created for use in an X/Ku-band measurement system for characterizing dynamic rocket plasma, extending previous measurements of this phenomenon. The array is instrumented to help distinguish plume-induced mechanical changes from electrical ones.

The affinity of lightning to a charged rocket plume depends on the plume's electrical properties, many of which are poorly characterized in theoretical models. The vulnerability of rockets to lightning-induced vehicle failure motivates study of this phenomenon. This paper describes experimental efforts to determine the plasma frequency and electron number density of plumes from static firings of amateur high power rocket motors, by analysis of the microwave transmission characteristics. Two new techniques presented include time delay measurements and using reflectors to sample multiple paths in the plume.

Ultracapacitors (UCs) are the significant component of the energy storage systems (ESS) in the electric traction applications. In the field of electric transportation the UCs need to be modeled dynamically in order to capture real-time characteristics. The model should provide precise estimation of UC responses to various charge/discharge conditions and also predict the behavior of UCs under varied load conditions. In order to incorporate the model for testing purposes in various power electronics/drive simulation toolboxes, it is very important for the model to be accurate. This paper aims at the experimental validation of an accurate parameter identification procedure for an UC model using random charging/discharging current pulses of different magnitudes. The UC model can estimate the output voltage without the extraction of the model's branch parameters. The critical parameters have been estimated dynamically from characteristic equations. The estimation technique for an equivalent RC branch model is simulated and the output voltage response, controlled between Vmm (0V) and Vrated (2.7V) of a single UC cell, has been presented. Finally, the simulation results obtained from the identification technique are validated against the actual charging results obtained from applying charging pulses to a 1200F UC.

The paper analyses the efficiency of the Information Technology (IT) for Domain-Specific Mathematical Modelling (DSMM). IT DSMM was developed to meet the shortcomings of the IT for Domain-Specific Modelling (DSM). IT DSMM allows us to develop metamodels in the different mathematical semantics and thus to increase the level of adequateness of models to the modelled domains. It also reduces an amount of operations needed for the development of metamodels and models of software systems. The optimization problem of choosing the most effective IT by selection and comparison of the multiple features inherent to DSM, DSMM and GPM (General Purpose Modelling) is solved.

In the field of communication, one of the most thriving and prevalent subject is the channel coding. Channel coding generally deals with the bandwidth which is the bit-rate or information storage capacity. It is a technical field which relies heavily on cost. In fact, it is undeniable that cost is the most crucial element in every system. Nowadays, together with the latency or time element which is also an equally significant factor, especially in mobile communication. The objective of this paper is to analyse and compare distinctively the three types of codes namely, turbo codes, LDBC codes and BCH codes, all simulated respectively in MATLAB environment. According to the conducted studies, it is evident that the BCH codes are excellent in performance compared to other codes. The turbo code, despite requiring maximum processing to decode the message has fairly good performance as well. Regardless of the level of processing, all the codes possess good & reliable performances compared to other codes.

A perennial problem with online repositories of end-user programmers' code is the low level of reuse, including in situations where existing code might aid in learning. This paper presents a formative study of middle-schoolers learning the Scratch animation environment, which revealed that they struggled to find short pieces of code that they could reuse directly, or from which they could discover language primitives (language instructions) to implement desired behavior. In response, we present a model and supporting prototype tool for clustering behaviorally similar code together, as a basis for helping end-user programmers to locate code. We conducted an empirical study confirming that our tool's model for estimating code similarity does correspond well with programmers' perceptions of code's behavioral similarity. Future work will expand on these results by providing new search engines that help end-user programmers to find and reuse visual code from online repositories.

In this article, the issue of guarding multi-agent systems against a sequence of intruder attacks through mobile heterogeneous guards (guards with different ranges) is discussed. The article makes use of graph theoretic abstractions of such systems in which agents are the nodes of a graph and edges represent interconnections between agents. Guards represent specialized mobile agents on specific nodes with capabilities to successfully detect and respond to an attack within their guarding range. Using this abstraction, the article addresses the problem in the context of eternal security problem in graphs. Eternal security refers to securing all the nodes in a graph against an infinite sequence of intruder attacks by a certain minimum number of guards. This paper makes use of heterogeneous guards and addresses all the components of the eternal security problem including the number of guards, their deployment and movement strategies. In the proposed solution, a graph is decomposed into clusters and a guard with appropriate range is then assigned to each cluster. These guards ensure that all nodes within their corresponding cluster are being protected at all times, thereby achieving the eternal security in the graph.

Digital image watermarking protects content by embedding a signal (i.e., owner information) into the host image without noticeable degradation in visual quality. To develop any image watermarking scheme, there some important requirements should be achieved such as imperceptibly, robustness, capacity, security, and, etc. Generally, the watermarking scheme based on wavelet transform domain shows an advantage in human perception and good imperceptibility and robustness. Due to this fact, this paper presents two blind image watermarking schemes based on DWT-SVD and RDWT-SVD. To evaluate their performance, these schemes are exposed to different geometric and non-geometric attacks. Although, DWT-SVD and RDWT-SVD showed robust against all attacks, RDWT-SVD is better than DWT-SVD, especially for geometrical attacks.

Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs) are expensive and complicated systems for ocean exploration. ROVs are playing more and more important roles in the exploration of the ocean and fishery industry. If we could build a low-cost ROV so that people could afford it, then more and more people will have the opportunities to explore the ocean. In 2014, the Science and Technology on Underwater Vehicle Laboratory at Harbin engineering University started a low-cost ROV project. The goal of this project is to develop a small inspection-class ROV that carries a video camera for underwater inspection. The ROV's total weight in the air is less than 10kg. The depth rating of the ROV is 150m and the maximum speed is 4 knots. The total cost is controlled under $4000. This paper presents the details of this ROV design and test results.
