Ring oscillator Physical Unclonable Function (RO PUF) is a popular silicon PUF due to its ease of implementation on both ASIC and FPGA. However, RO PUFs have severe reliability issues when the operating environment deviates from the nominal condition and security issues as cloning attacks have been reported. In this work, we propose to build configurable RO PUFs based on the notions of configurable RO PUF [6, 16] and highly flexible RO PUF [22] to address these concerns. First, we demonstrate how to build RO PUF from single flexible ROs, which improves both the reliability and hardware efficiency of RO PUFs. Then we propose a novel dual voltage based configurable RO PUF to mitigate the cloning attacks. Our experimental results show that our configurable RO PUFs are more reliable and hardware efficient than the existing RO PUF designs. Using the flexible RO PUF [22] as baseline, we have reduced the bit flip rate by 69% and improve the hardware utilization by 136%. In addition, the anti-cloning approach generates PUF data significantly different from the original PUF secret (average 47.5% Hamming distance) which makes potential cloning attacks very difficult.

In this paper, we propose an extended deep learning approach that incorporates instance selection and bootstrapping techniques for imbalanced data classification. In supervised learning, classification performance often deteriorates when the training set is imbalanced where at least one of the classes has a substantially fewer number of instances than the others. We propose to use adaptive synthetic sampling approach (ADASYN) to generate synthetic instances for the minority class. A data pruning process based on multiple correspondence analysis (MCA) is then performed to identify a sub-set of synthetic instances that are most suitable to supplement the existing minority instances. This results in a relatively more balanced training dataset which is then bootstrapped and fed into the convolutional neural networks (CNNs) for classification. Furthermore, we propose to use low-level features pre-processed by principal component analysis (PCA), instead of the commonly used raw signal data, as the input to CNNs to reduce the computational time. The experimental results show the effectiveness of our framework in classifying 54 TRECVID concepts with different imbalanced levels by comparing with other state-of-the-art methods.

This paper present a distributed test suite execution in term of code coverage analysis for testing a t-way test suite data using tuple space technology with Map and Reduce mechanism. The generated t-way test suite data and software under test (SUT) source code are preloaded into their respective partition using hash based routing algorithm. Each partition parsed each test case within the test suite into actual test data file. The code coverage of SUT source code is tested with each test case in actual test data and produces a test coverage result at their respective partition in term of class, method, block and line coverage. A case study of CGPA calculator as SUT is done to measure the test suite execution performance in term of test coverage with varying interaction strength on single and multiple machine environments. The scalability analysis of distributed test suite execution is also done in term of speedup gained while running on a multiple machine environments. An encouraging result is obtained on test coverage and speedup for multiple machine environments as compared to single machine environment. Higher test coverage and more speedup is obtained in higher machine environments. © 2014 IEEE.

In this century, most of the companies use the electricity from the fossils fuels such as oil, gas and coal. This method will give negative impact to the environment and the fossils fuel will be run out. This project is to develop a microbial fuels cell that can produce electricity. There are several types of the microbial fuel cell, which are a single chamber, double chamber and continuous. In this paper, the double chamber microbial fuel cell was selected to investigate the effect of suspended sludge into the double chamber microbial fuels cell. The salt bridge will construct between both chambers of the double chamber microbial fuels cell. Carbon graphite rod is selected as an electrode at the cathode and anode to transfer the electron from the anode to the cathode. Electricity is generated from the anaerobic oxidation of organic matter by bacteria. At the end of this project, the microbial fuels cell was successful in generating electricity that can be used for a specific application.

Minimal exposure path algorithms for directional sensor networks

As a fundamental problem of wireless sensor networks, the minimal exposure path problem corresponding to the sensor network's worst-case coverage plays an important role in the applications for detecting intrusions. However, most existing works about minimal exposure path are based on omnidirectional sensors. In contrast, this paper studies the minimal exposure path problem for two different types of directional sensing models: the binary sector model and directional sensitivity model. For the binary sector model, we construct a special Voronoi diagram, called sector centroids-based Voronoi diagram, to transform the minimal exposure path problem from a continuous geometric problem into a discrete geometric problem. By using the sector centroids-based Voronoi diagram, we develop an approximate algorithm to find the minimal exposure path in the sensors deployment field. For the directional sensitive model, we formulate the minimal exposure path problem by using two sensing intensity functions: all-sensor intensity function and maximum-sensor intensity function and then generate two weighted grids to convert the minimal exposure path problem into two discrete geometric problems. On the basis of the aforementioned weighted grids, we also develop two approximation algorithms to find the minimal exposure path for the directional sensitive model. Resource management is a key challenge in multiagent systems. It is especially important in dynamic environments where decisions need to be made quickly and when decisions can get obsolete quickly. In wireless local area networks (WLANs), resource management includes dynamic channel assignment, dynamic transmit power control and load balancing of WLANs traffic. In this work, we present a novel decentralized framework and a distributed optimization algorithm DLB-SDPOP for load balancing in complex WLANs. Our self-stabilizing algorithm focuses on repairing the network structure instead of reconstructing it when network perturbations occur. It controls the complexity of problem solving by utilizing efficient search and leverages uncertainty to reduce the possibility of reaching myopic solutions. The size and number of inter-agent communication messages are significantly reduced using a communication filtering mechanism. We categorize different scenarios based on key characteristics (i.e., load, dynamics and uncertainty) in WLANs and compare our algorithm with other state of the art distributed constraint optimization algorithms in each scenario. Our empirical results show that our distributed approach improves WLANs load balancing performance significantly. © 2014 - IOS Press and the authors. All rights reserved.

software test processes are complex and costly. To reduce testing effort without compromising effectiveness and product quality, automation of test activities has been adopted as a popular approach in software industry. However, since test automation usually requires substantial upfront investments, automation is not always more cost-effective than manual testing. To support decision-makers in finding the optimal degree of test automation in a given project, we propose in this paper a simulation model using the System Dynamics (SD) modeling technique. With the help of the simulation model, we can evaluate the performance of test processes with varying degrees of automation of test activities and help testers choose the most optimal cases. As the case study, we describe how we used our simulation model in the context of an Action Research (AR) study conducted in collaboration with a software company in Calgary, Canada. The goal of the study was to investigate how the simulation model can help decision-makers decide whether and to what degree the company should automate their test processes. As a first step, we compared the performances of the current fully manual testing with several cases of partly automated testing as anticipated for implementation in the partner company. The development of the simulation model as well as the analysis of simulation results helped the partner company to get a deeper understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of their current test process and supported decision-makers in the cost effective planning of improvements of selected test activities. © 2014 ACM.

In modern energy control centers, the Optimal Power Flow (OPF) routine is used to determine individual generator outputs that minimize the overall cost of generation while meeting transmission, generation, and system level operating constraints. OPF relies on the output of another module, namely the state estimator, which computes all the system variables, principally the voltage magnitudes with phase angles, transmission line flows, and the bus (and total system) loads. However, recent works have shown that the widely used weighted least square based state estimation is vulnerable to stealthy attacks wherein an adversary can alter certain measurements to corrupt the estimator's solution, yet remain undetected by the estimator's bad data detection algorithm. Here, we show that an attack on state estimation can compromise the integrity of OPF and undermine the economic and secure system operation. We present a formal verification based framework to systematically investigate the feasibility of such stealthy attacks and their influence on OPF. The proposed approach is described with an illustrative example. We also develop a mechanism to increase the efficiency of executing our model, which is evaluated by running experiments on different IEEE test cases. © 2014 IEEE.

Meeting customers' demand with the minimum cost, the required quality, and within the expected timeframe is the ultimatum goal of producers and logistics companies alike. To achieve this goal, real-time supply chain systems decisions are needed to address the inherent production, operations, and market uncertainties. Machine failures impact the producers' ability to meet their scheduled demand. Logistics delays are a significant source of uncertainty, especially when perishable items are transported with direct consequences on delivery time and quality. Real-time condition monitoring for in-transit perishable items requires an adequate infrastructure system available. Two relatively new technologies for the production and logistics domain, RFID and wireless sensor networks, provide the needed sensing, processing, and data storing and communication capabilities. When integrated, the resulting monitoring and control system may allow producers and logistics companies to considerably improve their operations by gaining more visibility for the product movement across their supply chains. This work proposes a framework for the design and implementation of a monitoring and control system for production and transportation operations. The proposed system employs the RFID-wireless sensor networks integration and is intended to provide more flexibility for production, logistics and supply chain activities in the face of uncertainties inherent during operations. © Copyright 2014 by DEStech Publications, Inc.
