Fault-tolerant frameworks for large scale computing clusters require sensor programs, which are executed periodically to facilitate performance and fault management. By construction, these clusters use general purpose operating systems such as Linux that are built for best average case performance and do not provide deterministic scheduling guarantees. Consequently, periodic applications show jitter in execution times relative to the expected execution time. Obtaining a deterministic schedule for periodic tasks in general purpose operating systems is difficult without using kernel-level modifications such as RTAI and RTLinux. However, due to performance and administrative issues kernel modification cannot be used in all scenarios. In this paper, we address the problem of jitter compensation for periodic tasks that cannot rely on modifying the operating system kernel. ; Towards that, (a) we present motivating examples; (b) we present a feedback controller based approach that runs in the user space and actively compensates periodic schedule based on past jitter; This approach is platform-agnostic i.e. it can be used in different operating systems without modification; and (c) we show through analysis and experiments that this approach is platform-agnostic i.e. it can be used in different operating systems without modification and also that it maintains a stable system with bounded total jitter.

The clinical symptoms of metabolic disorders during neonatal period are often not apparent, if not treated early irreversible damages such as mental retardation may occur, even death. Therefore, practicing newborn screening is very important to prevent neonatal from these damages. In this paper, the newborn screening system used support vector machines (SVM) classification technique is proposed in place of cut-off value decision to evaluate the metabolic substances concentration raw data obtained from tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) and determine whether the newborn has some kinds of metabolic disorder diseases. On the basis of the proposed features, new analytic combinations are identified with superior discriminatory performance compared with the best published combinations. Classifiers built with the feature selection to find C3/C2, C3 and C16 of three key point features achieved diagnostic sensitivities, specificities and accuracy approaching 100%. © 2009 IEEE.

The forwarding paths in an IP network may change due to a link failure, network equipment maintenance, or reconfiguration of link weights. The forwarding tables in the routers need then to be updated. These updates may cause transient loops and link overflow, if they are not performed in an appropriate order. While existing proposals achieve loop-free updates, transient link overflow is still a problem during the updating process. In this paper, we present a method that compares the initial and final forwarding paths, and obtains the updatable nodes that do not cause any transient loop or link overflow. However, this goal is not always achievable, therefore, we propose an algorithm to update the forwarding tables that will refrain the link overflows to a minimal level. The performance study on a real topology with two setups confirms that our approach achieves smaller link overflow than by using a previously proposed approach.

This paper deals with the robust iterative learning control(ILC) for time-delay systems(TDS) with both model and delay *** ILC algorithm with anticipation in time is considered,and a frequency-domain approach to its design is *** shows that a necessary and sufficient convergence condition can be provided in terms of three design parameters:the lead time,the learning gain,and the performance weighting *** particular,if the lead time is chosen as just the delay estimate,then the convergence condition is derived independent of the delay and the *** this case,with the selection of the performance weighting function,the perfect tracking can be achieved,or the least upper bound of the L2-norm of the limit tracking error can be guaranteed less than the least upper bound of the L2-norm of the initial tracking error.

As a fundamental problem of wireless sensor networks, the minimal exposure path problem corresponding to the sensor network's worst-case coverage plays an important role in the applications for detecting intrusions. However, most existing works about minimal exposure path are based on omnidirectional sensors. In contrast, this paper studies the minimal exposure path problem for directional sensor networks. We first develop a directional sensing model: directional sensitivity model. Then, we formulate the minimal exposure path problem by using two sensing intensity functions: all-sensor intensity function and maximum-sensor intensity function, and generate two weighted grids to convert the minimal exposure path problem into two discrete geometric problems. Based on the above weighted grids, we also develop two approximation algorithms to find the minimal exposure path for the directional sensitive model. We conduct extensive simulations to validate and evaluate our proposed models and algorithms.

In conventional directional sensor networks, coverage control for each sensor is based on a 2D directional sensing model. However, 2D directional sensing model cannot accurately characterize the actual application scene of image/video sensor networks. To remedy this deficiency, we propose a 3D directional sensor coverage-control model with tunable orientations. In order to improve the efficiency of target-detecting, we develop a virtual potential-field based coverage-enhancing scheme to improve the coverage performance. Furthermore, we apply the simulated annealing algorithm for objective optimization. The extensive simulations show the effectiveness of our proposed 3D sensing model and coverage enhancing method.

This paper is concerned with the iterative learning control(ILC) problem for discrete-time systems with iterationvarying *** the so-called super-vector approach to ILC,the discrete domain bounded real lemma is employed to develop a sufficient condition ensuring both the stability and the desired H∞ performance of the ILC *** is shown that this sufficient condition can be presented in terms of linear matrix inequalities(LMIs),which can also determine the learning gain matrix.A numerical simulation example is included to validate the theoretical results.
