In practice, extended Kalman filter (EKF) is one of the most popular lithium-ion battery (LIB) state of charge (SOC) estimation algorithms in electric vehicles onboard battery management system (BMS). With the increasing necessity of off-loading the computational burden and data storage capacity of onboard BMS, the application of battery digital twin and cloud-BMS are getting popularity. Therefore, to assess the performance of EKF in terms of accuracy, the computational time, and overall request and execution time, an EKF-based SOC estimation method is developed in the cloud platform of Amazon Web Services (AWS). For a specific battery test data set, the cloud-based EKF demonstrated a mean absolute error of 0.00226 and a request time of 0.028s that are highly satisfactory towards developing a digital twin enabled cloud-based BMS.

Breast cancer is a significant global healthcare challenge, particularly in developing and underdeveloped countries, with profound physical, emotional, and psychological consequences, including mortality. Timely diagnosis and accurate treatment are crucial in addressing this issue. We propose the utilization of a feature selection technique to identify the most relevant features from among all features for breast cancer diagnosis, and show that Genetic Algorithms are impressive for this task. The study compares the results of GA with no selection and an alternative method, Principle Component Analysis (PCA). Three machine learning models, all based on supervised learning with data split into training and test data, are employed for binary classification using the selected feature subset. The evaluation metrics employed encompass accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score. Among the selected models, Random Forest demonstrates the most favorable outcomes, achieving an accuracy score of 0.96, precision score of 0.96, recall value of 0.98, and an F1-score of 0.97. These results underscore the effectiveness of GA in feature selection for breast cancer diagnosis. Consequently, the integration of Genetic Algorithms (GA) with Random Forest showcases the superior performance among the evaluated models. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper explores the run time performance improvements using different GCC optimization flags in program compilation. As multi-core microprocessor systems replacing legacy single-core ones, tremendous effort is needed to address to optimize the associated compilers for newly designed architectures in order to suit them for running parallel programming on multiple cores. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to address this challenge by designing an optimum distributed multi-agent system to perform compiler optimization. A multi-agent framework is adopted to utilize random and genetic algorithm-based search algorithm to find the best GCC optimization flags for a given program. The framework is highly scalable and can be extended with distributed system concept to perform code compilation in parallel to find the best-optimized code sequence in a short amount of time. The initial performance results have promising indicators which clearly show that the performance improvement is achieved. © 2021 IEEE.

Human-computer interaction (HCI) is an evolving field of research that focuses on understanding and improving the communication and interaction between humans and computers. Over the past decades, we have seen many significant advances in this field, which have contributed to the widespread adoption and integration of technology into our daily lives. HCI research and development aims to design information technology systems to meet the needs and preferences of users. Usability, efficiency, accessibility and user satisfaction are important considerations in HCI design. This paper presents the results of a pilot study on user acceptance of HCIs. The results show that users are positive about and willing to use HCIs. © 2023 IEEE.

Image deblurring techniques that uses deep learning have shown great potential but due to low generalizability, noise immunity and the correlation among different pixels is not addressed in detail that results in unwanted artifact that appears in the deblurred image. To tackle this problem an end-to-end approach is proposed for the recovery of sharp image from blurred one without the estimation of blur kernel. A special type of attention module known as crosshatch attention is used after Residual Block of Generator model for removing noise and for the collection of correlation of different pixels in an image. Hybrid Loss function is defined which focus on different part of image and improve edges and texture details. The performance of the model for deblurring is measured on GoPro dataset. Our proposed model has slightly higher objective and subjective evaluation i-e PSNR, SSIM value and the visual results.

Low Earth Orbit Satellite Networks (LSNs) are integral to supporting a broad range of modern applications, which are typically modeled as Service Function Chains (SFCs). Each SFC is composed of Virtual Network Functions (VNFs), where each VNF performs a specific task. In this work, we tackle two key challenges in deploying SFCs across an LSN. Firstly, we aim to optimize the long-term system performance by minimizing the average end-to-end SFC execution delay, given that each satellite comes with a pre-installed/cached subset of VNFs. To achieve optimal SFC placement, we formulate an offline Dynamic Programming (DP) equation. To overcome the challenges associated with DP, such as its complexity, the need for probability knowledge, and centralized decision-making, we put forth an online Multi-Agent Q-Learning (MAQL) solution. Our MAQL approach addresses convergence issues in the non-stationary LSN environment by enabling satellites to share learning parameters and update their Q-tables based on distinct rules for their selected actions. Secondly, to determine the optimal VNF subsets for satellite caching, we develop a Bayesian Optimization (BO)-based learning mechanism that operates both offline and continuously in the background during runtime. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our MAQL approach achieves near-optimal performance comparable to the DP model and significantly outperforms existing baselines. Machine learning-based intrusion detection systems (IDS) have attracted considerable attention for their role in proactively identifying intrusion attempts and facilitating swift organizational response. While numerous researchers have conceptually discussed the potential negative impacts of high false alarms in machine learning-based IDS on organizations and have proposed various methods to reduce them, there is a shortage of studies that explore how these false alarms can exacerbate cyberattack damage in different organizational settings and in the face of various cyberattack campaigns. This paper introduces an agent-based modeling and simulation approach to assess false alarm consequences in machine learning-based IDS during dual Denial of Service (DoS) and phishing attacks. The IDS with distinct false positive rates, constructed using the KDD Cup 1999 dataset with diverse machine learning algorithms, were simulated to analyze how these varying false alarm rates affect the extent of damage caused by phishing and DoS attacks.

Multi-Dataset Multi-Task Learning for COVID-19 Prognosis

In the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, leveraging artificial intelligence to predict disease outcomes from chest radiographic images represents a significant scientific aim. The challenge, however, lies in the scarcity of large, labeled datasets with compatible tasks for training deep learning models without leading to overfitting. Addressing this issue, we introduce a novel multi-dataset multi-task training framework that predicts COVID-19 prognostic outcomes from chest X-rays (CXR) by integrating correlated datasets from disparate sources, distant from conventional multi-task learning approaches, which rely on datasets with multiple and correlated labeling schemes. Our framework hypothesizes that assessing severity scores enhances the model's ability to classify prognostic severity groups, thereby improving its robustness and predictive power. The proposed architecture comprises a deep convolutional network that receives inputs from two publicly available CXR datasets, AIforCOVID for severity prognostic prediction and BRIXIA for severity score assessment, and branches into task-specific fully connected output networks. Moreover, we propose a multi-task loss function, incorporating an indicator function, to exploit multi-dataset integration. The effectiveness and robustness of the proposed approach are demonstrated through significant performance improvements in prognosis classification tasks across 18 different convolutional neural network backbones in different evaluation strategies. This improvement is evident over single-task baselines and standard transfer learning strategies, supported by extensive statistical analysis, showing great application potential. © 2024, CC BY-NC-SA.

computer-aided detection of plasmodium malaria on cell images from digital microscopy provides an invaluable second opinion to medical experts. Traditionally, well-established deep learning algorithms are widely used to detect plasmodium, but these techniques have not been deployed due to the uninterpretable nature of the decisions made by the network. To address this, we present an ensemble method that fuses the predictions based on the class activation mapping (CAM) results from multiple networks via a novel selector network. We study the performance on a publicly available dataset of cell images by using three convolutional neural network architectures, Xception, ResNet50, and InceptionV3,to produce CAM results for the selector network and performance comparison. Our proposed approach helps enhance doctors' trust and outperforms the traditional methods by 1%.

Digital twins have a major potential to form a significant part of urban management in emergency planning, as they allow more efficient designing of the escape routes, better orientation in exceptional situations, and faster rescue intervention. Nevertheless, creating the twins still remains a largely manual effort, due to a lack of 3D-representations, which are available only in limited amounts for some new buildings. Thus, in this paper we aim to synthesize 3D information from commonly available 2D architectural floor plans. We propose two novel pixel-wise segmentation methods based on the MDA-Unet and MACU-Net architectures with improved skip connections, an attention mechanism, and a training objective together with a reconstruction part of the pipeline, which vectorizes the segmented plans to create a 3D model. The proposed methods are compared with two other state-of-the-art techniques and several benchmark datasets. On the commonly used CubiCasa benchmark dataset, our methods have achieved the mean F1 score of 0.86 over five examined classes, outperforming the other pixel-wise approaches tested.
