In this paper, a heuristic method based on Genetic Algorithms (GA) is proposed to improve the performance of Fuzzy Logic Controllers (FLCs) designed for Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) model of nonlinear plants by Parallel Distributed Compensation (PDC) technique. Generally, T-S models might not represent the dynamics of nonlinear plants accurately. Due to this mismatch, sometimes the response of the controlled nonlinear plant is not as desirable as the response of the corresponding T-S model controlled by the same FLC. Despite the fact that there is a flurry of research on the stability of FLCs applied to T-S model of nonlinear systems, the stability matters of FLCs applied to nonlinear systems is still a challenge. It is obvious that the performance of FLCs is entirely affected by the characteristics of membership functions. Thus, by tuning the type or parameters of fuzzy controller's membership functions using GA, the drawbacks caused by model mismatch can be decreased. In fact, the proposed method concerns the applicability of fuzzy PDC controllers to nonlinear plants and does not confide itself to dealing with T-S models. Thus, the improved fuzzy PDC controller is a fine-tuned PDC controller that can compensate the nonlinear plant as well as the corresponding T-S model. In order to verify the introduced strategy, the problem of balancing and swing up of an inverted pendulum on a cart is considered as a nonlinear case study. This paper describes the use of embedded machine learning (ML) on raw accelerometer data to classify three lower-limb exercises. The developed model, which uses supervised ML can accurately classify the exercises. The model performed with an accuracy of 99.41 % on the test data and F1 score of 0.99. The trained model is deployed on the microcontroller board, Arduino Nano 33 BLE Sense (ARM Cortex M4F processer). The system has been developed using open-source platforms. The developed wearable device, PhysioSens has the potential to enhance limb exercise monitoring in home-based physical therapy. © 2023 IEEE.

A fully differential, high gain opamp to be used in a low-voltage low-power high speed pipeline ADC in a 0.18 mu m CMOS process is designed. The opamp architecture is based on folded cascode and "double differential amplifier" technique. This design operates of a 1.8V power supply, achieving a differential output swing of +/-1.65V, a DC gain of > 95 dB with a unity gain at 312MHz and a phase margin of 56 degrees and 0.5mW power dissipation. The opamp can be used to design high-speed ADCs, for local wireless communications. The minimized power dissipation opamp could be used in high resolution, high speed pipelined analog to digital converters, which are needed in applications requiring both high data rate and high speed, such as wireless LANs.

Photonic quantum emulator utilizes photons to emulate the quantum physical behavior of a complex quantum system. Recent study in spatiotemporal optics has enriched the toolbox for designing and manipulating complex spatiotemporal optical wavepackets, bringing new opportunities in building such quantum emulators. In this work, we demonstrate a new type of photonic quantum emulator enabled by spatiotemporal localized wavepackets with spherical harmonic symmetry. The spatiotemporal field distribution of these wavepackets has the same distributions of the wavefunction solutions to the potential-free Schrödinger equation with two controllable quantum numbers. A series of such localized wavepackets are experimentally generated with their localized feature verified. These localized wavepackets can propagate invariantly in space-time like particles, forming a new type of photonic quantum emulator that may provide new insight in studying quantum physics and open up new applications in studying light-matter interactions and quantum optics. © 2025, CC BY.

This paper presents a vibration monitoring system for electrical appliances. This system is based on RFID sensors and edge processing technologies. For long-term monitoring, two different operation modes referred to as standby and active modes are introduced. The difference between the two modes is radio wave radiation times. The standby mode is useful to reduce energy consumption and temperature increase of an RFID reader, and amount of data uploaded to a network. This mode also detects a beginning of a vibration event caused by the motor of an electrical appliance. The standby mode subsequently triggers the active mode. The active mode accurately monitors the vibration event and keeps the measured data only for the active mode. Experiments for monitoring a refrigerator demonstrate that the proposed modes enable efficient vibration detections. This system can prevent unintended COVID-19 vaccine disposals caused by the problematic operation and management of refrigerators. © 2022 IEEE.

Robust and flexible leader-following is a critical capability for robots to integrate into human society. While existing methods struggle to generalize to leaders of arbitrary form and often fail when the leader temporarily leaves the robot’s field of view, this work introduces a unified framework addressing both challenges. First, traditional detection models are replaced with a segmentation model, allowing the leader to be anything. To enhance recognition robustness, a distance frame buffer is implemented that stores leader embeddings at multiple distances, accounting for the unique characteristics of leader-following tasks. Second, a goal-aware adaptation mechanism is designed to govern robot planning states based on the leader’s visibility and motion, complemented by a graph-based planner that generates candidate trajectories for each state, ensuring efficient following with obstacle avoidance. Simulations and real-world experiments with a legged robot follower and various leaders (human, ground robot, UAV, legged robot, stop sign) in both indoor and outdoor environments show competitive improvements in follow success rate, reduced visual loss duration, lower collision rate, and decreased leader-follower distance. This paper describes the implementation of the next generation of a scalable SiGe FPGA in the latest IBM 8HP SiGe process (fT = 210GHz) that serves as an interleaving and de-interleaving block in a high speed reconfigurable data acquisition system. In this paper, different generations of SiGe configurable blocks (Basic Cells) are presented and measured. The latest generation has a 94% reduction in power consumption (from 71mW to 4.2mW) and an 83% reduction of the propagation delay (from 238ps to 42ps) compared to the first generation design. To demonstrate the SiGe FPGA's capabilities of handling GHz signals, the SiGe FPGAs are configured as a multiplexer (MUX), de-multiplexer (DEMUX) and pseudo-SERDES. For the IBM 8HP process, the MUX, DEMUX and pseudo-SERDES can achieve a transmission rate of 28Gbps. For the previous IBM 7HP case, the 4:1 multiplexer runs at a transmission rate of 8Gbps. With these design results, the SiGe FPGA is able to process GHz signals such as S and K microwave bands. © 2005 IEEE.

With the high integration of power electronic technologies in microgrids,the reliability assessment considering power electronic devices has become a hot ***,so far no research has considered the impact of the operation failure probability of power electronic equipment on the overall reliability of the *** paper aims to construct a holistic operation failure rate model of power electronic systems based on the overall reliability assessment of islanded microgrid with high penetration of renewable energy sources(RESs).In addition,to improve the reliability of islanded microgrid,the conventional battery energy storage system(BESS)is replaced by the hybrid energy storage system(HESS).Based on the proposed model,the operation failure models for the power electronic modules in microgrid are built and tested,and then the sensitivity analysis is performed for exploring the influence of various factors on the reliability of the microgrid.

With the proliferation of IoT devices, there is an escalating demand for enhanced computing and communication capabilities. Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) addresses this need by relocating computing resources to the network edge, thereby delivering swifter and more efficient services. This paper introduces a computation offloading and energy consumption optimization framework that leverages Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS), Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), and MEC. The scheme aims to maximize energy efficiency through the optimization of task allocation, RIS phase shifts, and UAV trajectories. By employing the Multi-Agent Twin Delayed Deep Deterministic Policy Gradient (MATD3) reinforcement learning algorithm, the paper further refines UAV trajectories and RIS configurations. The simulation results indicate that the proposed method surpasses the traditional Concave-Convex Procedure (CCCP) algorithm in both UAV trajectory control and RIS configuration, demonstrating quicker convergence and enhanced stability. The method proves to be adaptable to diverse environments and tasks, showcasing notable benefits in RIS-assisted interference suppression, particularly with large RIS, thereby enhancing UAV data reception rates. Additionally, MATD3 exhibits faster and smoother convergence for extended task durations and smaller RIS scenarios. Simulation results reveal that UAVs tend to move closer to RIS, with energy efficiency falling as IoT tasks increase, affirming the proposed algorithm's high energy efficiency and effectiveness. © 2025 IEEE.
