In the paper, a 256-element circular array ultrasonic transducer is designed to create a controllable and focused 3D cylindrical ultrasound beam for pipeline inspection of natural gas pipelines. First, a localized three-dimensional acoustic modeling of the considered 250-mm-caliber pipeline is constructed by using the k-Wave toolbox. Then, the layout manner of the phased array is given previously, while the active aperture and input signal frequency of the phased array are determined via the experimental method. Finally, the simulation results on the axial-radial and circumferential-radial planes are exhibited to analysis the effectiveness of the proposed method. The results indicate that the piezoelectric transducer array can derive a feasible focused beam, providing a basis for future transducer prototyping.

This paper proposes a comprehensive methodology for Field-Oriented control (FOC) with parameter variation analysis for Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machines (IPMSM). The modeling approach for an IPMSM is first presented, followed by a step-by-step procedure for designing a vector-controlled strategy. The formulation is based on a dq-rotating reference frame aligned with the rotor shaft position. A key distinction of this methodology from traditional approaches is that the current controller is designed in the time domain based on desired time constants, while the speed control is formulated within a frequency response domain framework. The proposed hybrid approach enables accurate tuning of the Proportional-Integrator (PI) controllers for both current and speed control loops. Additionally, a parameter variation analysis is conducted to enhance the proposed methodology. The validity region for the design procedure is presented, ensuring that for any wide speed variation of the machine, loop gains are properly tuned. One of the main advantages of the proposed methodology is that it provides a fast, reliable, and accurate technique for implementing IPMSM drive systems. Results from a controller Hardware-in-the-Loop (C-HIL) setup with an external microcontroller are presented. The comprehensive design approach is validated under two different IPMSM parameter sets, demonstrating its effectiveness. © 2013 IEEE.

The problem of sensor fault detection is investigated in this paper for nonlinear stochastic systems with strong noise. Firstly, the state estimation of nonlinear systems is realized by the extended Kalman filter. To suppress the influence of strong noise, a new residual generator and residual evaluation function are designed using the weighted moving average method. Based on the stochastic analysis theory and the definition of fault detectability, a sufficient condition is derived to guarantee the fault detectability in probability. At the same time, the quantitative relationships are analyzed among fault amplitude, window length, false alarm rate and missed detection rate. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed fault detection method is verified through a numerical simulation for the rotary steerable system.

Online Distributed Optimization with Clipped Stochastic Gradients: High Probability Bound of Regrets

In this paper, the problem of distributed optimization is studied via a network of agents. Each agent only has access to a stochastic gradient of its own objective function in the previous time, and can communicate with its neighbors via a network. To handle this problem, an online distributed clipped stochastic gradient descent algorithm is proposed. Dynamic regrets are used to capture the performance of the algorithm. Particularly, the high probability bounds of regrets are analyzed when the stochastic gradients satisfy the heavy-tailed noise condition. For the convex case, the offline benchmark of the dynamic regret is to seek the minimizer of the objective function each time. Under mild assumptions on the graph connectivity, we prove that the dynamic regret grows sublinearly with high probability under a certain clipping parameter. For the non-convex case, the offline benchmark of the dynamic regret is to find the stationary point of the objective function each time. We show that the dynamic regret grows sublinearly with high probability if the variation of the objective function grows within a certain rate. Finally, numerical simulations are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of our theoretical results. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Massive renewable energy is connected to the power grid though the grid-following (GFL) converter. The DC-link voltage fluctuates easily when experiencing the challenges, such as grid voltage disturbances, load fluctuation. However, many studies ignore the influence of the DC-link voltage dynamics on the GFL converter. In this paper, the dynamic active current caused by the DC-link voltage dynamics is analyzed for the transient stability of the GFL converter. The dynamic active current would introduce an extra negative damping term in the phase-locked loop (PLL). The estimated domain of attraction (DOA) is obtained though energy function and Lyapunov direct method. Finally, simulation results and experimental results verify the effectiveness of the theoretical analysis. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper proposes a sliding-mode disturbance observer(SMDOB)-based tracking controller for a class of nonlinear systems with modeling uncertainties and external disturbances. The SMDOB is constructed using an extended state observer embedded by a filtered sliding mode term. The chattering caused by the sliding mode is compressed by the frequency bandwidths of both the extended state observer and the control system. The novelties of the proposed controller are as follows:(1) The semiglobal asymptotical stability of the combined controller-observer system is guaranteed without the boundedness assumption of the time derivatives of modeling uncertainties;(2) the SMDOB can be implemented with a low complexity because of only three parameters to be tuned. Applications to robot manipulators illustrate the effectiveness of the SMDOB-based tracking control strategy.

There are many problems faced by people who stand for hours at billing counter after shopping, even though crowds are avoided everywhere, shopping mall billing queue isn't reducing since ages. Since the world relies on automation today, everyone has to automate processes which consumes time, money and efforts wherever possible. The technique related with the use of Raspberry Pi, LCD display and Webcam helps the people to bill the groceries within the shopping cart. It reduces consumption of time and their energy can be conserved which can't happen when they stand in a queue for billing process. User have to scan the object in front of webcam and LCD display allows them to add purchased items along with their price and quantity. They can also remove the product fromthe cart and it will be automatically removed. At the end of process, payment can be made online using a QR code or UPI. The Bill will be generated to their respective mail or it will be sent as SMS. User have to register or Log in when they start shopping. Automatic detection is possible without any inspection behind. The model is much portable and does not face any problem in its operation. When compared with the existing methods the processor, display along with its webcam accuracy is much better, it does not require complete continuous guidance and maintenance upon its usage. The need to push the cart has been eliminated as the cart can move along/follow the user autonomously.
